A Goddess Mantra
with Manorama
In today’s show I will share you a Sanskrit mantra that honors the goddess. I’ll give its translation and will guide you in using this mantra in your Luminous Soul and Yogic Practice.
This mantra (like all mantras) supports you in being in yogic stillness. Some of the key features of mantras are that they are dynamic, energizing and calming all at the same time.
Each Sanskrit mantra has a specific way in which it acts on our consciousness bringing us into greater harmony with ourselves and the world around us. The more you chant a mantra, the quieter your thinking mind becomes. The tranquility found in Sanskrit chanting or in listening to Sanskrit mantras allows for a feeling of inner trust and ease to rise within you. From that space, you support yourself shifting into deeper layers of meditation. Chanting a mantra allows you to move inward more. And it just so happens that the more we explore our inner world, the more we behave in a more loving and kind way with others on an outer level. This is because mantras show us a world of unity, a world of energy where we are all connected and ultimately one.
Mantra Practice
- Here is a goddess mantra from the Devi Mahatyam. I want you to practice with me by both listening and chanting and then sitting quietly afterwards and noticing the effects of the mantra on your mind and body:
OM
Namo Devyai Mahā Devyai Śivāyai Satatam Namah
Namah Prakrtyai Bhadrāyai Niyatāh Pranatāh Sma Tām
Reverence to the Devi to the Supreme Devi. Salutations to her who is ever auspicious. Respect to her who is the primordial cause and sustaining power of all. With our attention focused, we extend our respect to her again and again.
Translation by Manorama
Verse from the Devi-Mahatmyam
- Chant this with me 9 times
- Sit quietly - listen and feel
Don’t make any meaning just feel
Be with the vibration. Be with the feeling of the mantra beyond thought
Notice the unifying, calm energized clarity and stillness that this mantra gives you access to when you chant it.
To enter into the world of the goddess is to enter into the world of energy and healing energy.
Practice and enjoy the insights that rise.
