Rescuing Black History with Tony Browder Feb 10, 2022
    Show notes

In yesterday’s Black History Month lesson from Anthony T. Browder, they touched on Carter G. Woodson, also known as the “Father of Black History.” Today’s episode takes a closer look at the historical figure, who intentionally chose February as Black History Month, as opposed to the criticism that it was simply dropped into the shortest month of the year. As Anthony explains, Woodson’s choice of February was a move to rescue history. And make no mistake: Black history is world history, and everyone on this planet has been miseducated to some extent. Anthony T. Browder is an author, publisher, cultural historian, artist, and educational consultant. He is the founder and director of IKG Cultural Resources, as well as the director of the ASA Restoration Project, and has devoted 43 years researching ancient Egyptian history, science, philosophy and culture. He is the founder and director of IKG Cultural Resources, as well as the director of the ASA Restoration Project, and has devoted 43 years researching ancient Egyptian history, science, philosophy and culture. In this ongoing Black History Month series with Anthony, and in the midst of book burning and the censorship of Critical Race Theory and other civil rights and LGBTQ+ history, they discuss how those very topics became “forbidden knowledge.” After we hear from Anthony, we get word from Jared Bernstein, Senior Economic Advisor to President Biden, on the decrease in Black unemployment. Anthony T. Browder and Chad Stone Feb 07, 2022
    Show notes

Anthony T. Browder continues his Black History Month lessons MIP and today digs into a religious word we’re all familiar with: “Amen.” Did you know it’s actually an ancient Egyptian term? Anthony is an author, publisher, cultural historian, artist, and educational consultant. He is the founder and director of IKG Cultural Resources, as well as the director of the ASA Restoration Project, and has devoted 43 years researching ancient Egyptian history, science, philosophy and culture. Diving further into language origins, Anthony shows us how it is crucial in reclaiming history. And did you know we’re all using “pharaoh” incorrectly? After Mark’s chat with Anthony, we hear from Chad Stone, Chief Economist at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, who gives us the bullet points from the January jobs report. The numbers were pleasantly surprising, as major losses were predicted, but Chad reviews the jobs report story going back to 2020’s initial recession, and how Black unemployment is still “disturbingly high.” Executive Producer: Adell Coleman Producer: Brittany Temple Distributor: DCP Entertainment For additional content: makeitplain.com

Anthony T. Browder on African Disinformation Feb 04, 2022
    Show notes

On the fourth day of Black History Month, Anthony T. Browder continues the discussion on disinformation of African history, calling it “forbidden knowledge,” a reality that sank in after his first trip to Egypt and grew within him as he continued to read and study more. Anthony is an author, publisher, cultural historian, artist, and educational consultant, as well as the founder and director of IKG Cultural Resources and has devoted 43 years researching ancient Egyptian history, science, philosophy and culture. Mark and Anthony also consider the story of Dr. Frances Cress Welsing, who developed a poignant theory on racism, white supremacy, and the fear of genetic annihilation, which got her fired from Howard University, but is now regarded as an astute cultural observation. Anthony Browder and Congressman Ro Khanna Feb 01, 2022
    Show notes

Today marks the beginning of Black History Month, and MIP will be honoring this month with daily conversations with Anthony T. Browder, author, publisher, cultural historian, artist, and educational consultant. Anthony is also the founder and director of IKG Cultural Resources and has devoted 43 years researching ancient Egyptian history, science, philosophy and culture, which is where today’s discussion begins. After the discussion with Anthony, you’ll hear from Congressman Ro Khanna, who represents Silicon Valley, but he’s recently published a book titled “Dignity in a Digital Age: Making Tech Work for All of us.” Rep. Khanna brings us into this discussion by uplifting some key issues: unequal access to technology is disproportionately affecting Black and Brown communities, wealth is concentrated into too few hands, and too many digital jobs are hoarded in selective tech hubs – and all three of these issues result in problems for our democracy. Elie Mystal of The Nation Jan 28, 2022
    Show notes

Elie Mystal is Justice Correspondent at The Nation and he’s back to discuss the current threat against Affirmative Action via our Supreme Court. SCOTUS took up two cases–one from Harvard and one from UNC, but Elie explains they are fundamentally the same case: a group of Asian-American students claim they outperform African-Americans and Latinos, but are still underrepresented at their universities. And in certain ways, their claims are valid–but the big problem stems from the person hiding behind those students, and is responsible for putting them up to it in the first place: Ed Blum. And if you don’t know Ed Blum, he’s made it his life’s work to unravel civil rights advancements. It’s a complicated situation with a lot of nuance but Elie breaks it down in his expert fashion to help us understand what’s at stake and why the conversative supreme court could our worst fears through this time around.
