Zach on Film: Chinatown (1974) May 31, 2013
    Show notes

This week, Zach goes down the rabbit hole and explores all the intricacies of Roman Polanski's Chinatown.

Chinatown is a 1974 American neo-noir film, directed by Roman Polanski from a screenplay by Robert Towne, and starring Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, and John Huston. The film was inspired by the California Water Wars, a series of disputes over southern California water at the beginning of the 20th century by which Los Angeles interests secured water rights in the Owens Valley. The Robert Evans production, a Paramount Pictures release, was the director's last film in the United States, and features many elements of film noir, particularly a multi-layered story that is part mystery and part psychological drama.

Major Spoilers Poll of the Week
There’s still a bit of controversy surrounding Star Trek Into Darkness and how it lines up with Wrath of Khan. There was a bit of discussion last week on the Major Spoilers Podcast about it, and on The Morning Stream. When people don’t agree, it’s time to punch the crap out of it.

Zach on Film: The Sting (1973) May 24, 2013
    Show notes

This week, we pull the ultimate con on Young Zach, as he gets the Kansas City Shuffle pulled on him in the 1973 caper, The Sting.

The Sting is a 1973 American caper film set in September 1936 that involves a complicated plot by two professional grifters (Paul Newman and Robert Redford) to con a mob boss (Robert Shaw).[3] The film was directed by George Roy Hill, who previously directed Newman and Redford in the western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Created by screenwriter David S. Ward, the story was inspired by real-life con games perpetrated by the brothers Fred and Charley Gondorff and documented by David Maurer in his book The Big Con: The Story of the Confidence Man.
