Major Spoilers Poll of the Week
Last week, DC Comics kicked off Villains Month and the Forever Evil event with a series of lenticular covers. Obviously it’s a marketing gimmick that ups the cover price, shines the spotlight on the company, and hopefully gets the reader to pick up the book and buy it. But are you impressed with results?

Hellboy Volume 03: The Chained Coffin and Others (Hellboy Library Volume 2)
Mike Mignola's story notes accompany the long out-of-print stories, giving insight into their creation and inspiration. Some consider Mignola's short stories better than the full-length novels, and this collection makes a strong argument for that, especially with Mignola's masterpiece, "The Corpse."

    Munchkin Land #52: Cthulhu's Booty! Sep 09, 2013
    Show notes

Munchkin is a dedicated deck card game by Steve Jackson Games, written by Steve Jackson and illustrated by John Kovalic, that has a humorous take on role-playing games.

This week on Munchkin Land, we ask the question, "Who has a big ol' booty?" Cthulhu, that's who.

Now available . . . another stand-alone Munchkin game! Munchkins have hacked their way through dungeons, kung fu temples, starships, haunted houses, and super-foes. Now they face their greatest challenge – Cthulhu! Will they survive? Will they retain their sanity? Will they . . . level up? Munchkin Cthuhlu is a stand-alone game in the Munchkin line, this time lampooning Lovecraft's Mythos and the horror gaming that surrounds it. Brought to you by Steve Jackson and John Kovalic, this set features four new Classes – including the Cultist – and a lot of classic monsters from outside reality. And they all have Stuff you can take from their twitching bodies. You can play Munchkin Cthulhu by itself, or combine it with any number of other Munchkin games for mind-bending silliness.

Sail the Seven Seas. Plunder the treasure. Make your crew walk the plank. Munchkin Booty brings the greatest gold-grabbers in history – pirates! – to the world of Munchkin. Use your Silver Long Johns to beat the Lobster Mobster, drink your Demon Rum to fight off the Viking Kittens, and defend yourself with the Cutlass (or Cutlad, for the gents) against the Prince of Whales. But watch out for Sharks! Plunder the seven seas as a Pirate, Naval Officer, or Merchant. Taunt your foes with your horrible Accent – British, Spanish, Dutch, or French. Equip your Half-Galleon with a Crow's Nest and Figurehead. But above all . . . level up! Munchkin Booty is a stand-alone card game designed by Steve Jackson and illustrated by John Kovalic. It is completely compatible with the original Munchkin.

THE CLASSIC ERA OF AMERICAN COMICS
    by Nicky Wright
In terms of both words and images the world had never seen the like of the American comicbook. They were bizarre, morbid, lurid, risque and bursting with subconcious desires of burgeoning youth culture. By the time 1954 arrived their were 500 different comics beingpublished by 35 different companies, selling over 60 million copies a month between them. This is the history of the era and the art it produced. The book looks at the pioneers of the comicbook and the comic's founding links with sleazy pulp magazines; the campaign for censorship; the fraught relationship between the comicbook artists and their publishers; how what they did was rarely recognised as art at the time - and of course the comics themselves.

Major Spoilers Poll of the Week
There are some really rich characters in comics like Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor, and then there are the one-percent of the one-percent that make Bruce and Lex’s toys seem like a mere after thought on what could be built and purchased. We’ve seen those with lots of money having leeches family members come out of the woodwork, hoping to get some of that filthy lucre when the rich relative kick the bucket.
