Wayne's Comics Podcast #300: DC / NYCC 2017 Oct 22, 2017

Show notes

It’s landmark Episode 300 of the Wayne’s Comics Podcast! To celebrate, I’m sharing the great interviews I recorded at this year’s New York Comic Con with many great DC Comics creators, all of which took place from October 4 through the 7th! You’ll hear my chat with Marguerite Bennett from Batwoman and DC’s Bombshells followed by my interview with Flintstones creator Mark Russell. After that is Tim Seeley discussing Green Lanterns, Gail Simone from Wonder Woman/Conan, and Cecil Castellucci, who scripts Shade the Changing Girl, followed by James Tynion IV, who talks about Detective Comics and his new series working with Jim Lee. Next up is legendary creator Neal Adams and a writer new to the show: Ray Fawkes, who is launching a revisited Ragman, and then there’s a brief chat with Steve Orlando about Supergirl. Things wrap up with John Romita, Jr., talking about his upcoming projects with Frank Miller and Superman, among other things! Please note that I did have some slight technical trouble, so you'll hear a crackle or two, but not often! As always, special thanks to Charlotte Sandler from BH Impact and the folks at DC Comics’ publicity! You’ll find the sequence and times you can hear each interview during the podcast below:

Marguerite Bennett, Batwoman 2:25
Mark Russell, Flintstones 10:37
Tim Seeley, Green Lanterns 15:48
Gail Simone, Wonder Woman/Conan 27:00

The killer virus has a name! Well, not really, but ZIM has the name of the guy who put the virus in GIR in the first place: VIROOZ. He also knows where he lives-Cyberflox, the galaxy's largest technology flea market! It'll take all of ZIM's cunning, intelligence, and subtlety to infiltrate the planet and find VIROOZ, which means ZIM is probably going to fail. Badly. Part three of a four-part story!

**Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #72**
**The World Of Doomed Olsens!**
**October 1963**
**w: Jerry Siegel**
**a: Curt Swan**
"Jimmy is taking part in a televised showcase of has many adventures, focusing particularly on the formula that turns him into Elastic Lad, and his various other transformations over the years. His special is suddenly interrupted by an alien creature calling itself the Collector who kidnaps Jimmy with it's scientific devices.

Jimmy finds himself transported to an alien world where the Collector hopes to make a collection of all the various incarnations of Jimmy Olsen. Rooting Jimmy to the group (by literally turning his feet into tree roots) the Collector keeps Superman at bay as well and apparently brings forth the giant monster Jimmy, the wolfman Jimmy, porcupine Jimmy and fat Jimmy before the real Jimmy. These alternate versions of him terrorize him before they themselves are rooted into the ground.

Before the Collector can do anything else Jimmy suddenly pulls the microphone that's been attached to him since the TV interview, and throws it at the Collector scaring the creature, thus proving to Jimmy that it's a ruse. Jimmy had deduced that the "Collector" is really Mon-El in disguise (due to his reaction to the microphone which was made with some lead parts which used to be a weakness for Mon-El) and that the other "Jimmy's" are really other members of the Legion of Super-Heroes (who are revealed to be Colossal Boy, Chameleon Boy and his new pet Proty II, Cosmic Boy, and Bouncing Boy.)

Jimmy learns that this was all planned by the Legion and Superman as an initiation for Jimmy, who is taken to the 30th Century where he is awarded an honorary membership in the Legion of Super-Heroes." - **via DC Wikia**

**Adventure Comics #315**
**The Legionnaires' Super-Contest!**
**December 1963**
**w: Edmond Hamilton**
**a: John Forte**
"While the Legion of Super-Heroes is attending a law enforcement convention, the Legion the Substitute Heroes fills in for them while they are absent. The Substitutes save a rocket from crashing, their deed is seen by Superboy's x-ray vision. With their existence revealed to the Legion of Super-Heroes, the Legion recognizes them as rejected Legion applicants and the Legion decides to give them another opportunity to apply for membership.

Each Substitute is sent on a different mission with various members of the Legion of Super-Heroes, and use their talents to help solve each mission. Returning from their missions, each Substitute member has their performance graded. Stone Boy ends up getting the highest score and is offered membership in the Legion of Super-Heroes, however, enjoying his membership in the Substitutes, Stone Boy declines membership to remain with his friends in the Legion of Substitute Heroes." - **via DC Wikia**

Cover Price: $3.99
Kafka meets King Lear by way of Young Frankenstein in KID LOBOTOMY, a dark, demented, monthly satire that follows a dysfunctional family of hoteliers. Will sibling rivalry, seduction, and shapeshifting eventually lead to sanity or salvation?

Big Daddy is a rich hotelier who, in a cracked echo of King Lear, appoints his youngest descendant to manage The Suites, a peculiar hotel located behind the Black Crown Pub. Affectionately known as Kid, his good looks and swagger can’t hide a rough childhood of strange therapies and brain operations that have awakened inner demons and psychodramas. This of course makes him eminently qualified to perform lobotomies. A failed rockstar/successful madman gets one last change to prove his worth—and regain his sanity—by turning the hotel that was once his childhood sanctuary into a lucrative business, despite a host of obstacles—including his own sister—who would love nothing more than to see him fail miserably.
