In this episode, we interview Anton Newcombe (Brian Jonestown Massacre). Almost 30 years ago, Mr. Newcombe unleashed his Brian Jonestown Massacre on an unsuspecting world. And what a long, strange trip it’s been. Countless records and lineup changes, an award-winning rockumentary that never let the truth get in the way of a good story, the theme song to Boardwalk Empire and much musical and mortal mayhem followed. The Brian Jonestown Massacre will embark on an extensive North American tour with Mercury Rev later this month. In this podcast, Anton talks about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music.
In this episode, we interview Princess Goes To The Butterfly Museum. The trio is Michael C. Hall (Dexter, Six Feet Under, Lazarus), Peter Yanowitz (Wallflowers, Morningwood) and Matt Katz-Bohen (Blondie, Cyndi Lauper), who formed the band after collaborating in Hedwig And The Angry Inch on Broadway. Princess Goes To The Butterfly Museum is kicking off its first-ever North American headlining tour this month in support of debut album Thanks For Coming. Best known as a founding member of the Walkmen (who went on indefinite hiatus in 2013), this singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist has been composing music for film, TV, commercials and children as well as launching a prolific solo career for adults. His sixth solo LP, The Bear, is out March 25 on his Ile Flottante Music label. In this podcast, Walter talks about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music.
In this episode, we interview John Oates (Hall & Oates). He's half of the biggest-selling musical duo of all-time (with Daryl Hall, of course), but recently, he's been doing his own thing. His latest album is Live In Nashville (Thirty Tigers), recorded with his Good Road Band, whose members have played with the likes of Dan Auerbach (Black Keys) and Kacey Musgraves. In March, Oates and Good Road Band guitarist Guthrie Trapp are hitting the road to perform an evening of songs and stories. In this podcast, John talks about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music.
In this episode, we interview Allen Epley (Shiner). Sure, Shiner's "new" reunion album came out back in 2020, but as you might've noticed, there's been too much of not enough in the world since then. Thus, the Kansas City post-punk legends are only getting around to touring in support of the LP now. Catch an older, wiser Shiner on the East Coast and in the Midwest in March. In this podcast, Allen talks about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music.
In this episode, we interview Jeff Kelly (Green Pajamas). Since 1984, the Green Pajamas have released more than 30 albums, not including EPs, singles and compilation appearances. In addition, Kelly has issued countless solo album, the latest of which is 2002's This Haunted Hill (Green Monkey). The new, Bandcamp-only Under The Radar: A Bootleg History Of The Green Pajamas” Vol. 1-3 compiles 56 outtakes, alternate versions and live recordings that the Pajamas cut between 1984 and last year. In this podcast, Jeff talks about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music.
In this episode, we interview Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth). This music legend has done it all in a career that spans more than four decades. Moore's latest is Screen Time (Southern Lord), a collection of 10 instrumental guitar pieces he recorded in 2000 in the early stages of the pandemic shutdown. In this podcast, Thurston talks—albeit very briefly—about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music.
In this episode, we interview Jesse Malin. The Mayor Of The Lower East Side made his latest a double. Not only is Sad And Beautiful World (Wicked Cool) a 17-song, two-LP set (one's "roots," one's "rock"), it also features the likes of HR (Bad Brains), Lucinda Williams and Tommy Stinson, not to mention a Tom Petty cover. Catch this live wire on tour this winter and spring. In this podcast, Jesse talks about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music.
In this episode, we interview Rob Grote (The Districts). While the Philly band recorded new album Great American Painting (out March 11 via Fat Possum) as a quartet, the Districts have since trimmed down to a trio. The band has, however, added a new member to the live lineup, with shows scheduled for the next few months across Europe and the U.S. In this podcast, Rob talks about the albums, songs and concerts that changed his life and inspired him to make music.
