Magic Music Review - Ep 16 - Deke Sharon Part 1 Mar 10, 2019

Show notes

Hello Everyone!

I'm really excited about this episode where I interview Deke Sharon! He is the creator of DCappella, Disney's new contemporary a cappella group! He was so generous with his time and knowledge, and we had a great time talking. This episode is about how he started in a cappella and then the creation of the group. So much great information. How DCappella came about is so interesting, and I believe you will find it interesting too!

Deke Sharon can be found on all the socials below:

Twitter: @dekesharon
Facebook: @dekesharon
Instagram: @dekesharon

And he has a podcast called "Counterpoint" that you can listen to here:

This is just part 1 of our conversation. There is definitely going to be a part 2, and possibly a part 3. There was that much that we talked about, and it was ALL great stuff!

As always, I would love to hear from you! I want this to be a conversation, not just a one way conversation (which really isn't a conversation. That is more of a lecture!) You can reach me on Facebook at Magic Music Review. I'm also on twitter at @disneymusicdude. And you can also comment on the episode at my website MagicMusicReview.com. I would also kindly ask that you leave a five star rating for this podcast on iTunes! That will help others find this podcast so we can share our love of Disney music!

Thanks, and off we go!

Magic Music Review - Ep 15 - Mary Poppins Returns - Part 2 Feb 17, 2019

Show notes

Hi Everyone!

Welcome back to the podcast as we finish up Mary Poppins Returns. I had so much fun with Mandi and Sean (and the roommate Zach eventually joins us)! We do go a little off the rails in some moments (maybe talk about Meryl Streep a little long. Or even the umbrella.) It was so much fun though and I hope you enjoy listening to it. I'm sure I will have them on in the future!

Magic Music Review - Ep 13 - Peter Pan Jan 20, 2019

Show notes

Cock-a-doodle-doo!

This is a fun week! We are going to go to the second start to the right and straight on til morning! Yes, you guess it, Peter Pan! I love this movie, and I think the music is not as appreciated as it should be. There is also some controversy with this movie, although Disney tends to ignore that because it is so iconic. It has some of the most well known Disney music in their music catalog!

As always, I would love to hear from you! I want this to be a conversation, not just a one way conversation (which really isn't a conversation. That is more of a lecture!) Magic Music Review - Ep 11 - Pocahontas Nov 11, 2018

Show notes

Hi All!

This week we are talking about an under appreciated Disney movie, Pocahontas. It is a beautifully animated film with an amazing score and songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz. It was their first collaboration, and I believe it was a great one! It was also a change for Disney to try and create a serious animated movie.

As always, I would love to hear from you! I want this to be a conversation, not just a one way conversation (which really isn't a conversation. That is more of a lecture!) Magic Music Review - Ep10 - Disney Villains - Simply Sinister Songs Oct 21, 2018

Show notes

Hello!

Today we explore some of the "Darker Side" of Disney music by listening to some songs about and sung by villains! Villains are some of my favorite characters, and they also have some of my favorite songs. Some of the songs are funny, some are scary, and all of them are great! Disney Villains - Simply Sinister Songs are just some of the many villain songs in the Disney canon of music. It's a great addition to any Disney music lovers collection!

Show notes

Hi!

Today we are going to take a look at the feline creature! We are talking about the Disney Animated Feature "The Aristocats"!

In this episode we talk a little about French music of the time and listen to a little bit to get a flavor of France before we listen to all of the rest of the music. We also go over the story line, and insert the music at the places it should be. It's a fun short episode that I hope you like!

Thanks, and enjoy the show!

Magic Music Review - Ep. 8 - Dumbo May 13, 2018

Show notes

Hi Everyone!

This episode we are going to the Circus with DUMBO!! I love the circus! I love circus music and the romance and nostalgia of going to the circus! Especially the circus around the turn of the 20th century!

In this episode we talk a little about the history of circus music and listen to a few circus marches. We then dive into the music of the animated feature Dumbo! I believe Dumbo has some of the most iconic music in the Disney music catalogue, including one of my favorite Disney songs! I'm excited to share this episode with you all!

Thanks, and enjoy the show!
