Magic Mics Podcast

#BabyYoda is so hot right now. With the launch of Disney+ and the release of the big Star Wars series "The Mandalorian," few things have captured the hearts and minds of the internet quite as quickly or thoroughly as "The Asset." And as we all know, nobody can capitalize and merchandize as well as Disney. But Magic has some amazing merchandising opportunities out there as well. So with Black Friday a week or so away and the holiday season right on our doorstep, what's your pitch for the must-have can't-miss Magic: The Gathering holiday toy of the season?

The Finisher Begun, the streaming wars have. AppleTV launched earlier this month, Disney+ launched this week, and just a few hours later Netflix and Nickelodeon announced that they'd be jägering together to help fight against the new dogs on the block too. And Magic had their own entertainment debut this week too, albeit much worse than any of the streamer services, with the release of War for the Spark: Forsaken. Now, Magic: The Gathering is a big brand with gravitas and clout. So it's a good feather in a streaming services' cap. So tell me: what would you produce using MTG's vast variety of fabulous characters and storylines to try to compete in the Stream Wars?

The Finisher

Breaking news here on Magic Mics, never before reported anywhere else: Oko is Broko. Banned in Brawl this week. Taking over Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, and now Vintage. We reached peak meme over the weekend, as a Black Lotus got turned into a 3/3 Elk to help attack for lethal in the vintage Championships. It seems that everything and everyone is all Elks all the time, and I'm not sure how many more bridges we have to cross before we achieve The Final FrontElk. So tell me: what else is left for Oko to conquer?

The Finisher

One of the most heartwarming stories of the week was about Reddit user "pudgimelon," who simplified and cutified Magic: The Gathering for his 3-year-old daughter. Each deck has 20 cards: 12 "friends" (aka creatures) and 8 spells, all of which are sorcery speed. Toughness was done away with, each friend's power is equal to its casting cost to simplify, and the turn order was further cut down to better allow preschoolers to understand. Now, we all have that player in our group who could use a 3-year-old's version explained to them. So tell me: how would you help the preschooler in your playgroup grasp the complexities of Magic?
