MOTM #628: Is It A Sacrifice Or Is It A Choice?
Oct 31, 2024
Our words send a message, so it’s damn important to pick them carefully. Are you making a sacrifice? Or are you choosing to give something up in exchange for something better?
If you’re making a choice, you’re taking ownership of your actions. And if what you’re doing really feels like a sacrifice, is it even something you want to be doing at all?

MOTM #627: Is Your Business Meeting Your Needs?
Oct 28, 2024
Is your business meeting your needs? And more importantly, how can you tell what needs are (or are not) being met if you don’t have the language to describe them? I’m a huge believer in the idea that your business is built to serve you, so if it isn’t meeting your needs, what can be done to change that? It’s so important to put words to our feelings because having the right words leads to better communication, which leads to finding better solutions, and knowing the solutions means we can take action—and you already know it: action is *always* the answer.

MOTM #626: Confronting Your Gremlins with Rachel Strickland
Oct 24, 2024
Last week, Jill and I ran our third ever #BossUp event, and we were lucky enough to have the one and only Rachel Strickland as a speaker there, and what she said was so moving, I knew I needed to recast her old episode ASAP. Think of it as a little gift for those of you who wanted to come to #BossUp and couldn’t.
In this episode Rachel and I chatted about our “gremlins,” about impostor syndrome, and about seeking out rejection. I see so many people not creating, due to any number of fears, even when creating is what they want more than anything to do. That’s where Rachel comes in—she’s gonna help you do the damn thing.
Your creativity and desire are right there, all you need is to listen and take action. What is the thing you could never forgive yourself for not doing? Start there. Let that fire carry you, and create now. You can’t afford not to.

In This Episode You'll Hear:
Joy as an act of rebellion
“No” is not an answer
Busking to pay the bills
Lessons learned from college
Gremlins aren’t very good co-pilots
Channel your anger
Seek out rejection
Be curious about your own envy
Helping people finding what they want (and how to talk about it)
The body knows the truth
The goal of creation is your own joy, not others’ satisfaction
You get to choose how social media affects you
The pottery class (aka: keep trying to get better)
As a listener of this podcast, you’re probably a pretty introspective person and spend a lot of time looking inwards, but how much time do you spend thinking about the internal lives of others? The whole point of running a business is connecting with and helping the human beings on the other side of the transaction—how much time are you considering their unique experiences? When we remember the unique people we’re working with, we can allow curiosity to come in to how we run our lives and businesses; and when we lead with curiosity, everyone’s better for it.

MOTM #624: Why You’re Not Seeing Success In Your Online Business
Oct 17, 2024
LEGACY is open for applications and y’all already know that means I have to have my bestie, JillFit, on the show so you can get a little taste of how much insight and strategy we bring to all of our LEGACY students. I wanted to talk with Jill about the kinds of people who do well in the program and what sets them apart from from the online business owners who never really grow the way they hope to. We all have to start at the beginning, but it takes strategy to get to the next level. We want you to have a profitable and predictable online business, and that’s why we built LEGACY.

Oct 14, 2024
It’s that time of the year again—LEGACY is open for applications! If somehow you don’t know, LEGACY is the mentorship-meets-mastermind I run with my Business Bestie, Jill. We started LEGACY because there was a huge lack of tailored strategy for intermediates to online business, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to build a predictable and profitable online business. Today Jill and I are sharing everything you need to know about LEGACY: who it’s for, what it can teach you, and what you need to do to be the right fit.

MOTM #621: How to Get Invited to Speak at Conferences and on Stages
Oct 07, 2024
#BossUp is happening this weekend (if you haven’t gotten tickets yet, what are you waiting for?!) so with live events on the brain, I thought I’d share some advice on how to get invited to speak on stages and at conferences. I’ll be honest with you, it’s definitely not as lucrative an endeavor as you might think, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a worthy goal.

We have the power to change things. The traditional healthcare model is broken—we all know this. So what’s the point in fighting to keep things the same? If you want things things to be better, then you have the chance to make it better. Playing it safe helps no one but the establishment, and the same old things will always be the same old things. Why not try something new?

This job can feel thankless. Posting to social media can feel like shouting into the void. But let me be the one to tell you: the things you’re doing, the things you’re saying matter. MOTM #618: More followers, more problems?
Sep 26, 2024
Maybe you feel envious when you see other businesses with large social media followings but friends, having a shit-ton of followers isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. You don’t want that, trust me. And besides, if you can’t show up and provide value for 50, or 500 followers, what makes you think you’d be able to handle 10 times that many?

A lot of followers doesn’t mean a lot of qualified leads
MOTM #617: Does Your Instagram Follower Count Actually Matter?
Sep 23, 2024
Does your follower count on social media actually matter for your business? Of course it does; at the very same time, it doesn’t matter all that much. I’m not going to lie to you—having lots of followers who care about what you’re doing and want to buy from you is clearly better than not having followers. BUT there are plenty of people with “small” followings that do well financially. As with all things in online business, nuance matters here.

MOTM #616: How to Actually Win the Long Game
Sep 19, 2024
53 months ago I released this exact episode talking about the fact that if you started then, you’d start seeing success in about 18-24 months. Imagine where you would be today if you had started whatever it is you’d been thinking about when you first heard that episode. It took me several years to build up my business to what it is now, and I never could have gotten here if I didn’t take the first step first. “So, what’s next?” It’s one of my favorite business questions to answer, and not because I’ve got something new to do or sell, but because I’m keeping everything exactly the same. There’s this pressure to always be doing more, creating more, earning more, but I already have everything I need. What good is “more” when what I already have is more than enough for me and then some?

MOTM #612: The Riches Are in the Niches
Sep 05, 2024
I really want y’all to succeed in your online businesses—that’s why I do what I do!— and one of the most important things you can do for your online business is niche down. We all know that the internet is crowded and noisy, with a million people saying a million things. If you want to cut through that and actually be heard by the people who need your message, you have to get specific. You aren’t leaving money on the table by leaving some people or some ideas out, you’re cutting to the heart of what people care about, and that’s how you make a viable business.

MOTM #611: The Slippery Slope of Scaling
Sep 02, 2024
I’ve been reading a lot recently about how big businesses aren’t doing as well as they once were, especially since the pandemic. Is anyone actually surprised? It only takes a little common sense to know that nothing can scale infinitely, and therein lies the slippery slope I see businesses falling down. Look, I want you to have all the success you want and make all the moneys, but nothing great can come out of attempting to scale beyond your niche.

MOTM #610: How to use Instagram for Your Brick & Mortar Business
Aug 29, 2024
I like to think of myself as an expert at using Instagram for online business, but do the same rules apply to brick & mortar businesses? Spoiler alert: no. Online efforts lead to online clients and in-person efforts lead to in-person clients. In my opinion, there are better places to spend your energy. But that doesn’t mean you should have zero Instagram presence, either. There are ways to use social media for your in-person business.

SEO or social media… which should you be focusing on as you build your business? Look, one isn’t “better” than the other, but they both serve different functions and will attract different people. So if you’re trying to decide how to grow your business, let me give you some food for thought while you think about where to start.

I’ve said it a million times before, and I’ll say it a million more times because it bears repeating: if you want to be successful in your business, you have to repeat yourself. Having an online business that actually helps people isn’t about saying a million different things, it’s saying one thing a million times. We all know that it takes reps to get good at something, but it takes reps to understand things from the clients’ side. If you want to get good, you’re going to have to repeat yourself.

MOTM #606: Leaning Into Seasonality with Emilie Reid
Aug 15, 2024
Y’all know I’m big on the seasonality of life and leaning in to it whenever we can. As we get in to this second half of August, the seasons are changing, so let’s live that change, too. I brought back this episode because Emilie is the person who put the concept of spirality and seasonality on my radar and it’s been life changing. It might sound a little “woo-woo” at first but that’s a good thing, I want it to. I want to challenge you to look at the bigger picture, to open your mind to what is happening in the world around you.
Emilie Reed is a wellness coach who empowers and teaches others to live with the seasons—both of nature and of our bodies—to find healthier and more fulfilling lives. As with many things on this podcast, I want you all to listen around the edges because it just makes so much sense, especially within business.
When you know yourself, inside and out, you can better understand how to show up for your people and teach them what they really need.

MOTM #605: Suggestions for a Productive August
Aug 12, 2024
August is a transitional month—not fully summer, and not fully fall (or winter and spring for my Southern Hemisphere friends). There’s still time to lean in to what makes summer fun and restful, but now’s the time to start preparing for those fall launches. I’ve got some soft suggestions for you for this august so you can embrace this season of rest while it’s still here, but be ready to hit the ground running when it’s time to get back to business.

MOTM #604: How to Handle Social Media Trolls
Aug 08, 2024
When it’s your job to post your life on the internet, getting trolls is an inevitability. There are people who hide behind anonymous profiles and talk their shit for who knows what reason, and no amount of “defending your honor” makes them stop. With an election coming up—and especially since we have a black woman running for president—I have a feeling these internet streets are about to get even more ugly. I can’t make the experience of getting trolls hurt any less, but you definitely have the power to stay in control and move past the childishness.

MOTM #600: Are Social Media Numbers Real?
Jul 25, 2024
There’s this thing happening all over social media (and especially on Threads) where AI operated accounts are growing like crazy, and comment sections are blowing up with debates on whether or the accounts are actually humans. It all got me thinking about the numbers we see on social media, if they’re even real, and more importantly, if we should care about them. I’ve never been big on numbers because to me, the real metric for success is connection.

MOTM #597: Is Your Content Too Serious?
Jul 15, 2024
Is your content too serious? Honestly, I have no clue. Only you know that. What I do know is that the idea of “professionalism” can be taken to an extreme, and that while business are built on solving problems, they’re also built on connection snd being yourself is a big part of that. If you’re a serious person, awesome, be that! But whoever you are, just be you.

MOTM #596: Doing Things that Don’t Scale
Jul 11, 2024
In an online space that’s so focused on always doing more, getting bigger, doing better, I think you should set your focus on doing things that DON’T scale. If you want influence, you need to build trust, and if you can’t show up for your small following now, how can you ever expect a large following to trust you? Success is in the actions that seem too small to matter. Trust me, they do.

Back when I worked as a PT I would have to see up to 24 patients in a 10 hour day. Pardon my French, but fuck that shit. One of my favorite things about starting your own business is that you don’t have to work to some other person or companies pace—you get to work at your own. If you feel good seeing 20 clients per day, great! But if you only have the capacity for 10, 5, or even 2, then that’s great too. Owning your own business means not having to force yourself into work “norms” and instead working at capacity that feels great to you.

Considering your capacity for working
Don’t be your own shitty boss
You don’t have to force yourself into norms
Capacity is individual and subjective
You still have to work, but you can do it at your own pace
MOTM #594: How to Handle Instagram Overwhelm
Jul 04, 2024
Every now and then I start seeing a flood of people “taking a break” from Instagram, and I truly believe it’s not the app that’s a problem—it’s how we use it. If you’re using social media to build a brand or a business, you’re going to have to be on Instagram, so you’re going to have to find a way to deal with overwhelm when it comes up because constantly deleting and re-downloading every other day ain’t the way. Overwhelm happens to all of us, so instead of trying to prevent it, you can take a deep breath and respond in a different way. We need social media for our businesses, so let’s figure out a way to make peace with it.

MOTM #593: Auditing Your Online Business: What to Do if You Want to “Burn it All Down”
Jul 01, 2024
What do you do when you want to burn your entire business down ’til there’s nothing left? I’ve been lucky enough to never want that, but it doesn’t seem like an enjoyable place to be. Running an online business and feeling like you’re going nowhere or that somehow you’re doing it “wrong” can be frustrating, but instead of throwing in the towel, there are a few questions I think you should ask yourself.

MOTM #592: The Actual Benefits of Cold Exposure
Jun 27, 2024
I may talk mostly business now, but I am the *Movement* Maestro, and every now and then I like to remind you of that. I’m bringing this episode back from the archives because it felt relevant given the fact that it’s summer and it’s hot as shit outside, so if you’ve ever thought about cold exposure, it’s as good a time as any to try. Look, I’m not about that cold shower life but I did some learning about this a few years back, and while there are plenty of lesser benefits, there’s a lot of great impact it can make on our nervous systems.

MOTM #591: “Am I Too Old for Instagram?”
Jun 24, 2024
Age is just a number—except for when it isn’t. I’ve had some clients wonder if they’re just “too old” to be starting a personal business on Instagram, and it’s a valid question. Even though social media seems to be a “young” persons game (whatever that means), there are millions of people of all ages online. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t care to hear a 20-year-olds advice about things, and I’m sure plenty of others don’t either. Which means they’re waiting for someone who may be “older,” and maybe that’s you.

MOTM #590: The 3 E’s of Starting an Online Business
Jun 20, 2024
How the hell do you know the “right” way to start an online business venture? Do you start with the thing you care about, or do you do the thing you know will make more money? Does have to be one or the other? Y’all know I’ll always advocate for doing the thing that lights you up, but businesses are build on solving problems, so you need to make sure you can do that before you do anything else. If you’re not sure where to start, start with this episode, where I’m sharing the three essential “E’s” to consider in any online business venture.

If you’re like me and you’re building a personal brand, you already know that trust is everything, and when building that trust with your audience, having a direct line of communication with them is golden. Once upon a time, I watched the Disney movie, Soul… and I hated it. It had some pretty egregious racial issues, and on top of that, it had a weird and disappointing take on what it means to be passionate. Letting your passion consume you is, in my opinion, a GOOD thing. If you’re lucky enough to have something that sets your soul on fire, then why wouldn’t you let it consume you? Why wouldn’t you dedicate your life to something that gets you jumping out of bed every morning and pushing you forward every day? I think you should.

Jun 10, 2024
If you ever wanted to hear me have a conversation with the Energizer Bunny, then you’ll definitely want to tune in to this episode. Jokes aside, you really do need to hear Dr. Alyssa Olenick’s story because she simply doesn’t stop, and it’s fucking incredible. Y’all know I stay calling for MOAR YOU, and Alyssa has no other modes—it’s more Alyssa, all the time. Maybe for some she’s “too much,” but that’s her super power. By leaning in to and owning that “too much” Alyssa has built something incredible that the rest of us are lucky enough to get to be a part of. No one in this world gets to tell you who you are, except for you. If someone is out there calling you “too much,” maybe that’s a sign to lean in, and be even MOAR.

As you know, the Summer Slowdown is coming, so now is the perfect time to focus on building up and growing your business, and one of the best things you can do is set up your email list. MOTM #584: A Realistic Approach to Getting Things Done
May 30, 2024
On Monday, I shared about how I really don’t care for being “busy” but it’s still important for me to get shit done. I follow a general schedule week-to-week, but sometimes life doesn’t always go to plan (shocking, I know) and that’s all good, too. As long as I’m setting realistic goals, managing the expectations I have for myself, and do my best to set myself up for success, we’re golden. But as we all know—and as the great prophet, Britney Spears, once said, “You better work, bitch.”

I do not like to be busy. Maybe in my younger years, I enjoyed having a full calendar a little more, but now every time I hear someone talking about doing more, more, more, more, more, I’m just like, “Ew.” In the entrepreneurial space, people can make you feel like you’re not doing “enough” if you aren’t constantly doing shit, so let me be the one to tell you, if you don’t like being busy, you don’t have to be.

MOTM #582: Building Badass with Kathy Sierra
May 23, 2024
If you choose to listen to but a handful of my podcast episodes, please let this be one of them. The Instagram algorithms saw fit to bring me and Kathy together, and I can’t help but feel that they actually got it right this time. Kathy's Instagram account may be dominated by pictures of horses, but her background tells a thousand stories, punctuated by leaps of faith and unimaginable success…over, and over, and over again. And honestly, it's just nice to see someone who writes longer Instagram captions than me.
Kathy has written a book that sold over 2 million copies, she was a sponsored skateboarder in college, she was the director of training at some of the largest sports clubs in LA, she taught at UCLA, she is still an international speaker and is revered by the likes of Tim Ferris, GaryV, and Jeff Bezos, she was an extremely successful computer programmer, and now she's following her passion working with horses on her farm and introducing the equestrian world to modern movement science. Did someone say ‘Most Interesting Woman in the World'?!?
Movement really does unite us all, and this episode demonstrates this perhaps more than any episode that I've ever done in the past. If you're at all like me you have to be wondering just what Kathy knows and does that has helped her succeed in nearly every endeavor she's taken. Apparently it's quite simple, and she has no problem sharing it with you. Want to find out what ‘it' is? Tune in to the full episode. I promise you won't be disappointed.

How to Create Badass Users

A completely different way of thinking when it comes to designing products and services for people
An amazing metric that she looked at to try and understand the success of her books versus the next closest competitor
One of the most incredible stories you’ll ever hear: Draumur
The striking similarities between working with humans and working with horses
Intrinsic motivation and the role of autonomy
The connection between movement and motivation
What her ideal physical therapy clinic would look like
Bringing back ‘aliveness’

MOTM #581: A Shed and a Dream with Kelly Bryant
May 20, 2024
Y’all know I’m all about going all-in on building your best life, whatever that may be. Your best life might be running your own business, but it doesn’t have to be. If having the security of a job at a company you love is part of your best life, then that’s fucking great, too! You can try a million different things, and stop doing those things at any time, and it doesn’t make you a failure—it means you’re wise enough to be realistic about what does and does not bring you joy. That’s something Kelly Bryant does well. Kelly is always willing to take a risk to live her best life, and she’s never been afraid to change course when her needs and interests change. She’s always tactical, always practical, and always ready to take action, even if it’s away from entrepreneurship. At the end of the day, it’s always just Kelly, her She-Shed, and the dream of living her best life, no matter what that looks like.

May 13, 2024
In April I did a Q&A over on Instagram, and—like usual—you folks came at me with some bomb-ass questions. I answered over there, but you can only say so much within the constraints of social media, so I wanted to have the chance to talk in more detail. MOTM #577: Your Fat Loss Goals Are Killing You
May 06, 2024
Menopause (and peri menopause) is the new black in the online space, and because of that, no matter where I look, everyone is talking about fat + weight loss. I truly never thought I’d be talking about this (and I hate that I am) but it’s been on my mind and I needed to say something. I truly believe our purpose in this life is to lean in to joy and be happy, but when you spend your whole life worrying about being as small as you possibly can, how could that bring you anything but sadness? I know we’ll never get people to let go of the idea of fat loss, but maybe we can help people lean in to function too, and not just aesthetics.

MOTM #576: Increase Your Instagram Engagement
May 02, 2024
On Monday we talked about automating Instagram comments and DM’s, but if you’re not getting any engagement, there’s nothing to automate. If your social media comment section is a ghost town, then I have a 5-part answer that’ll help you reflect on the way you’re showing up online and increase your levels of engagement. After all, using Instagram for online business starts with creating relationships, and those relationships start with you leading the conversation.

MOTM #575: Automating Your Instagram Comments and DMs with ManyChat
Apr 29, 2024
I’m sure you’ve seen one of those posts going around that has some sort of call to action like, “comment the word ‘YES’ and I’ll send you the link!” These creators aren’t sending out links individually, they’ve actually automated their Instagram comments and DMs. It seems like a miracle, especially for those of us who get burnt out from answering the same questions over and over again, so I thought we could talk a little bit about the how’s, why’s, and when’s when it comes to automating on Insta.

MOTM #574: Creating Connection with Laura Jean
Apr 25, 2024
This Throwback Thursday episode is a double whammy—it was initially two episodes that I’m rereleasing as one because if you haven’t heard it yet, then you need to immediately, and if you have already heard, well you need to listen again. This conversation, had with none other than my twin, Laura Jean, is the perfect follow-up to Monday’s conversation about the connection conundrum. As human beings, we all want to be seen, heard, and known. If we want that for ourselves, we have to lead from the front and show up in our full humanity so others can feel safe to do the same. That’s how we lead with our values, in life and in business. Y’all know I love actionable advice, especially when coupled with nuance and a deep conversation, and if that’s what you’re craving too, there’s no one better than Laura Jean.

In This Episode You'll Hear:
Life (& business) beyond the edge of our gardens
Dipping a toe in despair
A fair and just world
Fitting in is not the same as belonging
Bringing your values as a parent
Showing up authentically in a small village
When we don’t feel safe inside ourselves
Showing up in our full humanity, so others can do the same
The power in knowing yourself
Prioritizing yourself
To be held, and to hold space in return
Getting to know yourself
Caring for, instead of taking care of
Creation and cultivation
A business to meet our needs
Marketing is manipulation—but it doesn’t have to be
I spend a lot of time on social media, and I’m sure you do too, so you’ve probably noticed the dumpster-fire that seems to be happening in comment sections everywhere. We all desperately want connection, but it’s turned into anger, judgement, and what-about-ism every time a piece of content exists that isn’t perfectly tailored to our lived experiences. Y’all know I’m solution oriented, so I’m always thinking about what’s to be done about it. I’m not sure there’s ever a “right” answer to make it all better, but maybe there are some things we can do to start heading in a better, happier direction.

MOTM #572: One of the Few with Dr. Uchenna “UC” Ossai
Apr 18, 2024
Today’s episode features a very special guest: Dr. Uchenna “UC” Ossai. If you don’t already know her, get ready, because you're in for one hell of a treat.
I’m bringing today’s episode back from the vault because UC is speaking at #BossUp this year, and if you weren’t already convinced about going, you will be after hearing her here. She's just an all around dope human being with an energy that is absolutely infectious and it was awesome to have her on the podcast.
UC's upbringing shaped her into the incredible human she is, and the drive for excellence that her parents instilled in her transcends all aspects of her life. The world is changing, and it’s people like UC who are leading us forward. Quite possibly one of the most powerful ideas to be expressed on this podcast, UC explains that the power we inherently hold as healthcare providers makes it our DUTY to put in the work to understand the social issues that affect our patients and thus dictate how to provide them the best care.

MOTM #571: The Number 1 Reason to Go to Live Event
Apr 15, 2024
If you’ve never been to a live event, you need to. And it’s not because the information you’ll get there is just too good to pass up (although, that’s certainly a benefit of live events) but there’s another magic you’ll experience entirely when you’re in the same room with other people who are action takers, just like you. So if you’re never been to a live event, and if you’re an action taker—which I know you are because you listen to this podcast—I hope I’ll see you at #BossUp this fall. It’ll change you, and it’ll change how you run your business.

MOTM #570: How to Prioritize Happiness
Apr 11, 2024
We talked about Threads on Monday and over there, folks be complaining. In my opinion, at the heart of all that bitching, is unhappiness. Some people are committed to being unhappy, but for the most part, I think people don’t know how to make the things that bring them joy a priority. If something matters to you, then you do it. So what are you making time for in your life?

Does anyone even know what the hell is happening over on Threads? The Instagram algorithm is somewhat protective, but Threads seems to be showing all content to all people which just leads to a clusterfuck of complainers and trolls. To me, it’s illuminating the larger differences between the creators and consumers of social media. If you want to stand above the rest, take my advice, and be a creator.

MOTM #568: My Journey: From PT to “Present” Day
Apr 04, 2024
For this Throwback Thursday episode I wanted to rerelease an episode I recorded about my journey as a PT-turned-online business owner. Monday’s episode was all about how you don’t need to “struggle” in order to be successful, and my story is just one example of that. Struggle has it’s place, but not every story needs it in order to have a happy ending. Rather, I’ve always asked myself “Could I keep doing this for the rest of my life?” and making the necessary changes based on the answer. If you find yourself asking the same kinds of questions, maybe my story can show you what else is possible.

MOTM #567: Is Struggle a Prerequisite for Success?
Apr 01, 2024
For whatever reasons, we—and by we, I mean society—tends to glorify struggling. We see overcoming obstacles as some sort of moral victory and that those who are successful must have struggled in order to get there. Does that mean you *need* to struggle in order to have success? Y’all, of course not. You can go through difficult shit AND you can be successful, but one doesn’t necessarily cause the other.

MOTM #566: The Knee Pain Chronicles with Ben Patrick, Knees Over Toes Guy
Mar 28, 2024
This throwback is one from the archives (almost 5 years ago now!) but I continue to be a huge fan of this guest and if you aren’t already, you will be soon.
Join me for an incredible conversation with Ben Patrick, founder of the Athletic Truth Group, and creator of the knee ability program that has changed my life. I know, that's a big statement. But I'm speaking my truth. Be skeptical. I don't blame you. All I ask is that you listen to the entire episode, hear what Ben has to say, and then decide for yourself.

Mar 25, 2024
It’s been a minute since I had the guest on the pod, but we’re changing that up today because this is a conversation you absolutely need to hear. I may talk about business most of the time nowadays, but I’ll always be the Movement Maestro at heart, and there’s something special about getting to nerd-out about movement with someone like Matt McInnes Watson. Really y’all, this guy is the real deal. We chat about all things plyometrics and the dynamic side of movement, the value in mastering the basics, how to create a system that makes sense + builds trust, the education that sets Matt’s business apart, and ultimately, changing the way we move forever. Trust me, you’re gonna want to tune in.

MOTM #564: How to Get the Most Out of Every Live Event that You Attend
Mar 21, 2024
I just came back from a live event and while I really do like speaking at and running them, I do not enjoy going to them, which is why its a top priority for me to really get the most from them when I do go. There’s always a magic about being in the room and surrounded by people who understand your world and speak your language. It’s something we should all try, at least once.

When people call you “obsessed,” take it as a compliment. There’s nothing more magnetic or awe-inspiring than someone who’s absolutely obsessed with what they do. So if you’re the kind of person that gets obsessed with every little thing you do, lean in. That shit is your superpower.

MOTM #562: A Framework for Reframing Failure and Rejection
Mar 14, 2024
In life there aren’t “winners” and “losers.” There’s room for every single one of us the succeed, to “win,” to do this “right.” To me, that means that failure, in the way it’s typically thought of, doesn’t really exist. In every moment, we have a choice to think about our actions and respond differently. So really, the only failure is choosing not to try again.

MOTM #561: Overcoming the Fear of Ridicule
Mar 11, 2024
The thing about being vulnerable, leading from the front, and posting about your life and your business online is that someone’s always gonna talk their shit. So many people I work with are conditioned by culture and society to stay quiet in order to be “accepted” but y’all, that’s not real acceptance! Hiding yourself away like that is unsustainable, and you should be out here, showing the world who you truly are. That’s how you find your people. If the fear of ridicule is holding you back from showing up online… well, you already know what to do.

MOTM #560: Articulating the Abstract: Making Your Work Understandable
Mar 07, 2024
How do you explain what you do to potential clients when what you do is hard to explain? I gotchu. In life and in business, shit takes time to refine. As in all things, getting good at getting succinct is a matter of reps, reps, reps. Sometimes you have to say a lot before you learn to say it well.

MOTM #559: Beyond Personal Narratives: Success Without the Backstory
Mar 04, 2024
There’s this idea that the only and/or best way for your online business to be successful is to coach people through a transformation you’ve had yourself—you need to be your own niche, and your avatar should be a past version of yourself. Sure, it might be “easier” to do it that way, but I call bullshit on that being the only way to succeed. Leaning on your expertise can work just as well as leaning on your backstory.

MOTM #558: 10 Things Every Online Business Owner Needs to Understand
Feb 29, 2024
If you’re an online business owner, or hope to be one someday, there are 10 things you need to understand. So many people hop online and think running an online business will be a quick way to make money or that things “should” happen a certain way, but take it from someone who’s been in the game for a while now, it’s not as simple as just creating a course and making a ton of money.

Feb 26, 2024
Not everyone who plays the game of business gets to win, but there is one trait I see that’s a huge predictor of whether or not someone will succeed online. Sure, there are some qualities that can’t really be taught, but the great news is that anyone learn, develop, and work for this X-Factor.

Defining what winning means to you (because not everyone gets to “win”)
This throwback was recorded aaaaall the way at the beginning of Covid, but everything I say remains true today. It’s not always pleasant, but you’ve got to take an honest look at your life and take radical responsibility—for all of it. The good, the bad, and the in-between. It may not always be your fault, but unless you accept that it is your responsibility, you won’t be able to get anywhere meaningful.

MOTM #554: No Time Wasted: Stop Worrying About Wasting Your Time
Feb 15, 2024
People out there (yeah, I’m talking about you) are afraid to commit to doing the thing because they’re afraid of wasting their time. Yes time is finite, but committing to something, whether it “turns out” or not is never a waste if we focus on all the things we gain by having done it in the first place. Nothing is a waste of time when everything is an opportunity to learn.

MOTM #553: How to Write Better Emails
Feb 12, 2024
Having an email list is something I’m very passionate about for all online business owners because when it’s all said and done, your email list is the only thing you really “own.” If you want to social media-proof your business—and you SHOULD—then you need a way to get in contact with and talk directly to your potential clients and customers. Enter: your email list. It’s not enough to just have one, you gotta be writing to it, too! In today’s episode I’m sharing 3 points I focus on when writing to my list that’ll help you write those emails, and actually write them well.

Feb 08, 2024
I’m all about consistency in posting on Instagram, and ideally posting every damn day, but with posting daily comes the fear of running out of content to make. What if I told you I knew three easy steps you need to take to make sure you never run out of ideas for content again? No, it’s not too good to be true, it’s legit, and it all starts with noticing the world around you. There’s content in every thing we do because it’s all inter-connected. Feb 05, 2024
Should you always display your prices? Are there times it makes sense not to list them? Y’all already know I’m gonna tell you to do whatever the hell you feel like doing, but personally, I always list my prices, and if you really want to know my opinion I think you should too. We’re going way, way back to episodes 52 and 54 for this week’s Thursday Throwback, and for a sentimental reason. These episodes features an interview I did 6 years ago now with strongman Bud Jeffries. Bud passed away 2 years ago this January 21st, but the legacy he left is still impacting people today. The way his wife speaks about him and continues to share his message is something really beautiful, and I wanted to do the same in whatever small way I could.
It’s a long-ass episode because Bud didn’t do anything in his life half-assed. The original title of this episode is “Change Your Strength and Change Your Life,” and that encompasses everything Bud wanted to impart to the world. If you want to make a change, it’s time to get strong and take action.

Jan 22, 2024
We have all these mediums now that need all different types of content, but what the hell goes where? Emails, blogs, YouTube, podcasts, and social media (oh, my!) are all places you might want to be talking about your niche, but they all have very different use-cases and even more different “languages” that are spoken amongst them. MOTM #539: My Top 5 Predictions for Online Business in 2024
Dec 27, 2023
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and Merry Monday to those who don’t! We made it to the last solo-pod of 2023, so I wanted to talk about the predictions & suggestions. I have for the online business space in the upcoming year. I do believe that we tend to see the exact things we’re looking for (confirmation bias, anyone?) so, it drives me crazy when I see people sharing the “only” way to run a business—usually it just isn’t relevant to that specific person. In any case, here’s what I think we’ll see in 2024.

MOTM #538: Are You Cut Out for Entrepreneurship?
Dec 21, 2023
Are you cut out for this whole entrepreneurship thing? Look, the only way you’ll know for sure is if you go out there, do the thing, and find out for yourself, but I won’t pretend like there aren’t some common traits I see in people who stay in the game long enough to win. Whether or not you’re cut out for entrepreneurship, I can’t say, but that certainty you’re looking for is on the other side of action.

We’re 2 weeks away from 2024, and it’s not by accident that I left my planning for the New Year so late. I’m a creature of habit and most of what I did this year, I’ll do next year too. I run my business to maintain the lifestyle I love living, and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right? Look, you don’t have to plan your year the same way I do, but if you wanted to know, now you know.

MOTM #536: How to Balance Life and Work
Dec 14, 2023
When we talk about finding work-life balance, try to think of it as a verb (“balancing”) rather than a noun (“balance”). Think of someone doing a handstand—balance isn’t something achieved once and then forgotten about, it takes tons of tiny adjustments and re-adjustments just to stay in one place. The same is true in life. You don’t “achieve” work-life balance, you have to be working at it, always.

MOTM #535: How Often Should You Email Your List?
Dec 11, 2023
Today I wanted to talk about your email list—more specifically, how often you should be sending emails to said list. Your email list is the single most important asset of your business, so it’s not something you can just ignore and hope for the best. So how often should you email your list? As much as you want, really, but y’all already know it’s a little more nuanced than that.

MOTM #534: 3 Steps for a Happier Life
Dec 07, 2023
Look, happiness is subjective—happiness to me isn’t going to mean the same thing to you. But no matter what your “happy” is, there are 3 things you can do that I think will move you towards that happier life, the you’ve been dreaming of.

I keep seeing some posts on Instagram that I strongly disagree with, so instead of just allowing it to bother me or do nothing but complain, I’m making something instead. I’ve seen some people conflating niches with knowables, and while you need both things to have an online business, they couldn’t be more different.

MOTM #532: Understanding the Changing Landscape of Physical Therapy: Brick & Mortar Clinics vs. Digital Ventures with Dr. Danny Matta
Nov 30, 2023
So excited for y’all to hear this double-dip episode with one of my favorite people ever, Dr. Danny Matta. This was originally a catch-up episode for his show, the PT Entrepreneur Podcast, but we had such a great time that I had to share here, too.
In this episode, we’re diving into the challenges that many physical therapists face when they want to transition away from direct patient care and explore other areas of the profession. We touch on the physical and mental demands that often lead to burnout, and how reimbursement rates often don’t match the value of care provided. Even so, y’all know I’m against making hasty decisions (don’t burn the ships!) and we always encourage PTs to identify the specific aspects they dislike about their current role or workplace before making any drastic changes. Oftentimes, even the smallest changes can have the biggest impact on any situation.

MOTM #531: How to Increase Your Engagement on Instagram
Nov 27, 2023
Engagement tanking and not sure what to do about it? You must be new here. I hear people bitching about the “numbers” on Insta, but complaining won’t change a damn thing. Meta is always changing up their algorithm and you’ll never “crack the code” to consistent engagement so to speak, but I have 6 ideas for you to try out if your engagement is in the trash right now.

MOTM #530: Espresso Machines and The Spice of Life
Nov 23, 2023

I recently bought a new espresso machine, and y’all know I love to nerd out and learn all the things there is to know. We all get to do exactly what we want in this life, and isn’t that great?

MOTM #529: Online Business Advice for Brick and Mortar Business Owners
Nov 20, 2023
Recently, I’ve received an influx of PT’s and brick & mortar business owners looking to jump into the online space. I see some people thinking that online is somehow easier than in-person—it’s not—and while you can’t ride two horses with one ass, there are some people who might be able to make the jump online. MOTM #528: How to Decide When it’s Time to Invest in a Coaching Program
Nov 17, 2023
I’m sure you’ve heard business coaches making claims like, “in order to get to the next level you HAVE to invest” and “all coaches need coaches” as a way to sell their products and services. My personal feelings about that aside, how can you know when it’s time to invest with a coach, even if you’ve invested before but aren’t currently? I wanted to talk about this, not to pitch my own services, y’all know that’s not my style, but because I think more people need to dive into this topic.

MOTM #527: The Ultimate Business Lesson from Eminem
Nov 13, 2023
Got a shorter episode for you today, but that doesn’t mean the message isn’t sweet. You may know Eminem as one of the greatest lyrical geniuses of our generation, but he’s also got some wisdom that I think is one of the greatest lessons you can learn in business. MOTM #526: Two Questions to Ask EVERY Time You Create an Online Offer
Nov 09, 2023
This is something I’ve been doing for years, but it wasn’t until recently that I had the language to describe the process. Every time you create an offer, and I do mean every single time, you need to be asking yourself two important questions: How do I get my clients their desired outcome? And what’s getting in the way of this person getting that outcome in the first place?

MOTM #525: When Should You Stop Chasing the Online Business Dream?
Nov 06, 2023
The great-but-terrible thing about online business is that you can learn everything you need to know to start one in about 30 seconds, but for most people it takes basically 30 years to start seeing “success.” Very few people start online and make money in the first few years, so maybe you’ve wondered to yourself how to know when to call it quits for the online business dream. There’s no “right” answer—it could be tomorrow, it could be 5 years from now, but if I had to guess for the type of people listening to this podcast, it might be never.

I’m not here to tell you how to figure out what matters, I’m here to talk about what ACTUALLY matters. It’s simple but it’s complicated at the same time, because what matters to you might not matter to me, or to anyone else. That’s okay! It’s great even. If something matters to you, it’s as simple as that: it matters. So lean in to it, and stop trying to find out the things that someone else told you “matters.”

MOTM #523: Building a Legacy Business
Oct 30, 2023
It’s LEGACY season, y’all.
If you’ve listened to the past 4 Business and Bullshit episodes with my girl, JillFit, you know the story of how LEGACY came to be, and how much we love this program. It’s part mentorship-part mastermind, which just means its 100% of the strategy and education you need to take your online business to new heights. LEGACY isn’t just a name, it’s the kind of business we want you to create—not just a flash in the pan success, but a true legacy. If you’re ready to level up, doors are open for LEGACY now.

MOTM #522: Overcoming Comparisonitis on Instagram
Oct 26, 2023
You’re a human—or at least I think you are—and comparing yourself to others you see on social media happens, it’s okay! What’s not okay is letting that comparisonitis stop you when you’re trying to build your online biz. Normally I’d tell you just to unfollow, but what’s the solution when you find yourself comparing with people you actually want to keep up with?

MOTM #521: Business & Bullshit with My Bestie – Part 4: Asking for the Sale
Oct 23, 2023
It’s the fourth and final BBB, and while we’re sad it’s over, we’re so damn grateful y’all decided to give us your time and attention for this series. Jill and I wanted to talk about selling to finish BBB off because if you’re going to have an online business, making sales is a non-negotiable aspect. People hate selling for a lot of different reasons—it feels sleazy, they’re uncomfortable asking for money, or unconfident in their ability to deliver a result. Whatever the reasoning, selling has earned a reputation it doesn’t always deserve. Slimy sales tactics do exist, but that doesn’t mean you have to use them! Selling, when done in integrity, is one of the greatest services you can do for someone.

MOTM #520: Do You Need Professional Photos for Your Online Biz?
Oct 19, 2023
Do you need professional photos for your online business? I’ll spare you the runaround—of course not. Professional photos aren’t my jam, but if they’re yours, great! More power to you! But you absolutely do not need them, and in fact, the concept of “needing” professional photos for your business carries a little bit of nuance and I think necessitates a little bit larger of a conversation.

Oct 16, 2023
We’re back with Triple-B Part 3, and goddamn are we having a great time. Talking biz is always my favorite thing to do, and when I get to talk to the best-of-the-best, my bestie JillFit, y’all know the conversation is about to bring the heat. Today we wanted to talk about the nuts and bolts of business: when you get to say you own one, the seasonality of business, knowing what and when to outsource things, mastering the basics, and everything you need to begin (spoiler alert: it’s just your phone—yep, it’s that simple).

MOTM #518: How to Create When You’re Out of Ideas
Oct 12, 2023
I’m all about posting daily—or at the very least, on a consistent basis—but what do you post when you feel like youre out of ideas? Creativity isn’t some finite resource, and I don’t believe you every truly “run out” but dry spells can happen. What do you do when the muse has left you, and the well has run dry? MOTM #517: Business & Bullshit with My Bestie – Part 2: Standing Out In the Space
Oct 09, 2023
JillFit and I are back for BBB Part 2 and today we’re tackling what it takes to stand out online. Everyone worries about it: is the online space too crowded, too saturated? Sure there are huge numbers of people starting online businesses, but there are more consumers now than ever and if you want to find *your* people, you need to start niching down. Those that try to appeal to everybody appeal to nobody. When you go all-in on what you’re great at and you make real connections with the people in your atmosphere? That’s how you stand out.

MOTM #516: Is Authenticity Hurting Your Brand?
Oct 05, 2023
Y’all know I’m all about MOAR YOU but does the limit exist? Can “too much” authenticity hurt your personal brand? Truthfully, I think the only way to sustainably build a business is by being as true to yourself as possible. Will it rub some people the wrong way? It’s possible. But what other choice do you have?

Sep 28, 2023
If you’re trying to solve every problem for every person, you’re gonna have a bad time. When it comes to online business, I truly, truly believe you need to niche down if you want to gain any traction. But say you’re already niched… do you need to down even more? MOTM #513: How to Get More Testimonials
Sep 25, 2023
Running a business online means you need to show prospective clients that they’ll get a result from working with you, and there’s no better way to prove it than hearing it directly from your previous clients. And while getting testimonials is more simple than you might think, that doesn’t make it easy. I’m sharing my two-step approach that’ll help you get even more testimonials.

MOTM #511: Are You Pushing Hard Enough?
Sep 18, 2023
Got big goals? As the great philosopher, Britney Spears, once said, “You better work, bitch.” Yes, there is a time and place for rest, and your work should never be such a struggle that you spend every day in misery… but there’s real value in pushing yourself. In your business, your fitness, or whatever it may be—if you have goals, you’re going to have to work hard. Getting a little bit uncomfortable is part of the game. MOTM #510: How to Create Consistently When You Crave Spontaneity
Sep 14, 2023
How do you balance the spontaneity needed for creative work with the consistency needed to run a business? I get this question a lot, and I’m not surprised—I create off the cuff too, and we attract what we are. Spontaneity is great, but if you want to create sustainably, you’re going to need some degree of structure.

MOTM #509: Can You Guarantee Results?
Sep 11, 2023
Guaranteeing a result to our clients can feel risky as hell, especially when you haven’t put in a ton of reps yet. As a consumer, aren’t you more likely to buy something if you know exactly the outcome you’ll get? It’ll feel uncomfortable at first, but guaranteeing results is one of the most important things we can do as business owners to ease our clients’ fears and actually make sales.

We’re all dying. I don’t say this to be morbid, it’s just true. The average lifespan is less than 80 years old, meaning we all have less time than we think we do. Why waste any of our limited time on this earth living anything other than our best lives? If you need something to kick you in the ass in order to get out there and do the damn thing, there’s no greater motivator than your own mortality.

MOTM #506: How Do You Book Your Plane Tickets?
Aug 31, 2023
I booked a flight with my friends recently and the whole experience got me thinking. What I value in an airplane experience could not be more different than the friends I’m traveling with and my mind was blown. Maybe it’s because of all my traveling experience, or maybe it has to do with the way I see spending money—what I gain from it, rather than what I lose from spending at all. Y’all know I’m all about living my rich life, my BEST life, and traveling with ease is a big part of that. How are you booking your plane tickets?

Aug 28, 2023
There’s a phrase that gets thrown around a ton and frankly, I can’t stand it. Maybe you’ve heard it, too: “I’m too busy working in my business to work on my business!” It’s meaningless. Aug 24, 2023
How long does it take to build a successful online business? Y’all already know I’m gonna say it takes a long ass time. But if you want a more concrete timeline, or want to know why it takes so damn long, you’ll want to listen to the whole episode.

MOTM #502: Every Client is a Neuro Client with Meghann Koppele Duffy
Aug 17, 2023
Today, we’re nerding out about movement.
It’s been a while since I’ve had Meghann Koppele Duffy on the podcast, but sometimes you just need to geek out for a little bit with a dope-ass human. Meg is the co-founder of The Neuro Studio, which offers online coaching for people who live with neurological diseases and injuries, as well as virtual education programs for the fitness professionals, physical therapists, and movement specialist that work with these patients.
But here’s the thing: everyone is a neuro patient. Everyone stands to benefit from what Meg is doing at the Neuro Studio, not just patients with neurological conditions. I wanted Meg to get on here and share about what she does and her Neuro Techniques class because there’s something for every single one of us to learn. People need good practitioners, and the best way to learn is by getting out there and just doing the damn thing. Even mistakes will lead you in the right direction.

Aug 14, 2023
If you’ve been wanting to sell something online, or you’re in the process of creating your next course or offer, or even if you’re having a tough time writing the copy for the sales page of your existing product… this episode is for you. When you’re creating your irresistible offer (s/o to my girl JillFit for that concept) there are 7 distinct components you’ll need to nail down.

MOTM #500: 5 Lessons from 500 Podcast Episodes
Aug 10, 2023
500 episodes. We did it, y’all.
This podcast has far and away been my favorite thing to create, so THANK YOU for being here, whether you’re brand new or you’ve been here from the very beginning. I’ve learned a lot about podcasting in 500 episodes, so I thought I’d share some insights that I’ve picked up, because if you’ve been thinking about starting a podcast of your own, you absolutely should. Oh, and I’m including a clip of the very first MOTM episode so you can see just how far we’ve come.

MOTM #499: Don’t Fall Into the Branding Trap
Aug 07, 2023
I’m here to save you from the Branding Trap. Fonts and colors and a cool logo are fun, no doubt about it, but don’t make the mistake of thinking that having “perfect” branding is what’ll make you successful. Nobody will care what your brand looks like if they have no idea what your brand stands for. Before you fall into the Branding Trap, listen to this episode and I’ll tell you what to do instead.

MOTM #498: The Beyoncé of Breath with Jill Miller
Aug 03, 2023
You know those kinds of people who are so damn good at what they do and so true to themselves that you just need everyone to get a chance to bask in their greatness? That’s Jill Miller.
Jill is an OG to this podcast (seriously, I first had her on 440 episodes ago!) and with the release of her new book, Body by Breath, it was about time I had her back on. I once described Jill as the Beyoncé of fascia—and she still is—but she’s the Beyoncé of breath, too. Jill is a student for life, has built an absolute empire, and has become one of the most knowledgeable authorities when it comes to fascia and the body-breath connection.
Jill is a shining example of what it looks like to have the courage, confidence, and dedication to sharing what drives you. If there’s one thing to learn from Jill, let it be the magic that happens when you follow your North Star and lean in to who you are.

MOTM #495: Checking in on Your Word of the Year
Jul 24, 2023
If you didn’t know, I like to choose a word to focus on at the beginning of the year, almost like an intention, to help guide my actions and keep me focused. For 2023, I chose “Create.” We’re a little over halfway through the year, so I figured now would be a great time to reflect on whether I’ve been sticking to my word, and whether you’ve been sticking to yours.

MOTM #494: How Much of Your Personal Life Should You Share on Social Media?
Jul 20, 2023
How much of your personal life should you be sharing on social media? It’s a question I get asked quite a lot and y’all already know there won’t be a clear answer. It’s your business and at the end of the day, it’s up to you! Do I think there’s utility in sharing your personality online? Absolutely I do. But it all comes down to integrity: if you’re sharing truthfully, it won’t matter how much you do or don’t share online.

If you haven’t heard, Meta, the company behind Instagram and Facebook, has come out with a new social media: Threads. Over 69 million people are on it so far, and it’s essentially a version of Twitter, but do you need to be on it? What is it even good for? You know I’ve already got lots to say.

MOTM #492: A Nihilistic Approach to Online Business
Jul 13, 2023
What really matters when it comes to online business? What should you believe, what works? Does the approach you take really even matter? Y’all know I’m all about taking action. Honestly, any approach to online business can work as long as you just keep going. Even the approaches I hate. It doesn’t matter all that much.

I’ve been podcasting since 2018, releasing 2 episodes almost every week, so I’ve got the process down to a science. This podcast is one of my favorite things to do and helps me create some of my most important content. I don’t take a ton of supplements, but what I do use, I love. MOTM #489: Is Instagram Killing Creativity?
Jul 03, 2023
Is Instagram killing creativity? Yes. Yes, it is. As much as I hate blaming it, we’re all merely victims to the Algorithm Gods. And while you could certainly try your best to chase after the algorithm, I wouldn’t recommend it because that shit is always changing. So what do we do? Is it hopeless out there for creators? Y’all know I don’t subscribe to that bleak way of thinking.

MOTM #488: How to Know What Offer You Should Create

MOTM #487: Why I Stopped Offering Discovery Calls
Jun 26, 2023
I don’t do discovery calls anymore. “But Maestro,“ I hear you saying, “didn’t you *just* mention your discovery calls, only 3 episodes ago?” I sure did, but things change and with online business they change quickly. I was growing resentful of discovery calls, so I got rid of them. Want to know why? Well, you’ll just have to keep listening.

MOTM #486: Cultivating Communities of Care (Part II)
Jun 22, 2023
This episode is the second part of a 2-part episode with my girl, my twin Laura Jean. If you haven’t listened to Part 1 yet, get on that! I’m always mentioning Laura Jean on this podcast because she’s had such a profound impact on the way I think, and after you hear these two episodes I know you’ll feel the same way.
I see a lot online about “putting yourself first” and “self-care” but so much of it is all talk, no action. Laura Jean is laying out what it actually means to put yourself first, and not just the surface level stuff, but really getting to know yourself and cultivate communities where we are cared for (and where we care for others!). Our businesses should exist to meet our needs, and not just the financial aspect, but our need to be held as well.

To be held, and to hold space in return
Getting to know yourself
Caring for, instead of taking care of
Creation and cultivation
A business to meet our needs
Marketing is manipulation—but it doesn’t have to be
MOTM #485: Being Seen, Heard, and Known (Part I)
Jun 19, 2023
This episode is the first half of a 2-part episode with my girl, my twin Laura Jean. It’s been a while since I had her on the podcast, but it doesn’t feel like that because I mention her pretty much every-other episode and that’s due to the fact that she’s had such a profound impact on the way I think. Laura Jean is a light and a leader, and she makes me feel less alone—I’m sure after listening to this episode you’ll feel the same way.
We all want to belong. We want to be seen, heard, and known. If we want that for ourselves, we have to lead from the front and show up in our full humanity so others can feel safe to do the same. That’s how we lead with our values, in life and in business.

Dipping a toe in despair
A fair and just world
Fitting in is not the same as belonging
Bringing your values as a parent
Showing up authentically in a small village
When we don’t feel safe inside ourselves
Showing up in our full humanity, so others can do the same
MOTM #484: How to Choose an Online Business Coach
Jun 15, 2023
So, you want to hire an online business coach. There are eleventy-billion (yes, that’s the actual number) coaches out there, it shouldn’t be that hard to pick one. We all have different ideas for best practices to create a viable business, but every approach works for someone! All you need to do is pick the coach that will help you actually do the thing, instead of waiting around for the “perfect” coach to fall into your lap.

MOTM #483: How to Sell Your Own Merchandise
Jun 12, 2023
Selling merch is fucking dope. The fact that I created a brand and a value system that people—some of whom I’ve never even met—want to represent in their own lives isn’t something I take for granted. You can sell your own merch, too, and you can do it without ever having to set foot in a post office.

Jun 08, 2023
Before y’all start to worry, no I am not taking a break from Insta. It is something I see a lot of people wanting to do, but are afraid to do so. I’ll be the one to tell you that there’s nothing wrong with wanting to or taking a little break every now and then. MOTM #481: Peloton Got Plastic Surgery
Jun 05, 2023
Peloton got a BBL. Okay, okay not really, but they did have a huge rebrand and what once was a hardware company that sold stationary bikes has become a software company that sells an app, and I think there are some really interesting business lessons we can all learn from this.

MOTM #478: An Introduction to Smart Tools and Blood Flow Restriction with Nick Colosi
May 25, 2023
I’m obsessed with looking for the best of the best, and finding people who are committed to making the best possible product. It’s always been my goal to help all of you cut through the noise out there and just find good shit that works well. That’s why I’m so pumped to be talking to (former Chiropractor, believe it or not!) Nick Colosi, who is the co-founder of Smart Tools, a company providing BFR, IASTM, and other PT tools.
I specifically wanted to talk to Nick about the BFR—or Blood Flow Restriction, if you aren’t in the know—cuffs that his company sells. So many PT’s are too scared to try something like BFR due to safety and legal concerns, but it’s the way forward. Smart Tools is creating not only a high-quality product, but high-quality educational content so more people can get their hands on BFR technology to get better, faster, and easier results.

MOTM #477: Setting Boundaries with Your Clients
May 22, 2023
The way I see it, setting boundaries with your clients is simply choosing to make your own well-being a priority rather than someone else’s desires. We have no problem setting boundaries for kids or other people we care about, so why is it so damn hard when it comes to boundary setting for ourselves? Boundaries are basic. If you want to be doing this for a long time, you’re gonna need to learn ho to set them.

MOTM #476: People-Pleasing, Perfectionism, and Finding Peace with Erica Webb
May 18, 2023
Erica Webb works with the people-pleasers of the world. As a former people-pleaser and self-hater, she helps others who are just like her past self, those with a nasty inner-critic, to find self-kindness through movement and mindset. Because according to Erica, we can change the world when we’re kind to ourselves.
It’s not been a smooth or a quick journey for Erica, and that’s why I had to bring her on. This is what building an online business looks like. It’s not instant success, or millions of dollars over-night. It’s hard work put in over years, allowing yourself and you business to change, and to always take action guided by your values. It’s allowing yourself time to figure things out, and refusing to make yourself into a martyr over a business you hate. You can work hard as hell and protect your peace, all while enjoying the process.

MOTM #475: How to Launch a Successful Online Course Using Kajabi
May 15, 2023
If you want to launch an online course and actually be successful, you need this episode. There are plenty of people out there that will happily take your money to teach you how to create a course, but won’t tell you the truth about whether or not you really should make one, nor will they teach you how to create a course that is successful for you AND your clients. Your success matters to me, so I’m telling you everything you need to know.

MOTM #473: A Look Inside of My Rich Life
May 08, 2023
Y’all know I’m about living my very best life, or as Ramit Sethi calls it, my Rich Life. It’s not even about being “rich” so to speak, it’s about living the fullest version of life, whatever that looks like to YOU. My Rich Life isn’t the same as Ramit’s, just like yours isn’t the same as mine. It isn’t true to say money doesn’t matter, so your rich life is just about making your money work in a way that feels the best for you. Here’s what my Rich Life looks like, what about yours?

I don’t subscribe to cancel culture. I don’t believe in cancel culture. But I’m seeing cancel culture greatly affect how people are showing up, and I wanted to share my two pennies.
This episode is fully my own opinion and not designed to persuade anyone of convince anyone. That in and of itself is the problem with cancel culture. It feeds on mob mentality and the absence of personal critical thinking.
Cancel culture is rooted in a broken power system that will not be overcome by inverting it, but rather, by dismantling it and “building a new model that makes the existing model obsolete”.

MOTM #471: Do You Actually Need to Niche Down?
May 01, 2023
Niching down is one of my favorite subjects to talk about, but do you really need to do it? Short answer: yes. Medium answer: if you’re in the online space, absolutely yes. Long answer: well, you’ll have to listen to the full episode to hear that one. Maybe you find it restrictive, but niching down is one of the best things you can do to build trust online, and we all know trust is how you make sales.

Apr 27, 2023
Today we’re talking all about the monies, aka how to scale your online business. Most people use the terms “grow” and “scale” interchangeably when it comes to internet biz but they are VERY different things! Is it possible to make a lot more money while working a lot less?

Apr 24, 2023
Alright y’all, let me nerd out for an episode here and tell you aaaaall the best platforms and software you need to be using for your online business. I’ve spent hours upon hours researching the best of the best, comparing and contrasting, and keeping tabs on what works well for my clients versus what doesn’t. It’s worth noting: you don’t need all of this at once. But once you’re ready for the next step, check back with this episode.

MOTM #468: How to Grow Your Email List
Apr 20, 2023
This might be the most informative episode I’ve ever done. For real. Everything you need to know about email lists and newsletters is in this episode: why you need one, how to start one, what to use it for, and how to grow it. I could talk for hours about this, but if you’re just getting started and need to know where to start, start here. Oh and by the way, be sure to stick around for the entire episode because I got a little excited, went off script and may or may not have dropped a bonus tip for you at the end.

Thanks to my PT background, I’m always looking for root causes rather than treating symptoms, so when I hear y’all ask how to get better at networking, I think it’s important to know why we want that at all. Networking doesn’t automatically equate to getting more eyes on your stuff, and it’s a process that simply takes time. Building a true network is worth it.

MOTM #465: What to Do When People Default on Their Payment Plans
Apr 10, 2023
In general, payment plans are transactional rather than relational, meaning the biggest reason those plans exist is to increase revenue. They can be a good thing just as much as they can be harmful, but sometimes I think we can forget that there’s a real, human person on the other side of those payments. There’s a way to deal with defaulted payment to keep that person’s humanity in mind, and your own.

MOTM #464: Blame It All on My Roots (Part II)
Apr 06, 2023
Howdy partners, and welcome back to part 2 of my Garth Brooks-inspired episode. I recently watched Garth’s (yes, we’re on a first name basis) documentary and it moved me in the BEST way. I shared the first 3 of my main takeaways in part 1, and this episode features the remaining 4.

MOTM #463: Blame It All on My Roots (Part I)
Apr 03, 2023
One thing you need to know about me: I LOVE country music. It’s a family affair for me, and if there’s one artist I could listen to forever, it’d be Garth Brooks. The man is a legend, and when I watched his documentary the other day, I felt so moved and inspired by it, so I wanted to share my top takeaways. MOTM #462: Building A Lifestyle Business
Mar 30, 2023
The Movement Maestro is very much a “lifestyle business” and I like it that way. I love what I do, truly, but I’m not the kind of person who lives to work, and as of now, I don’t see myself becoming that person. Maybe you want the same, maybe you want more! MOTM #460: How to Create Repeat Customers
Mar 23, 2023
I spoke in a previous episode how the only two ways to make more money are to sell the same things to new people and to sell new things to the same people, with the latter options being the more viable choice. It’s Business 101 that it’s better to retain an old customer than to gain a new one, and that’s why creating repeat customers is the best thing you can do for your business. The way I see it, there are 3 integral components you need to master to keep your customers coming back over and over.

MOTM #458: The Paradox of Wanting to Help More People
Mar 16, 2023
I often hear people complaining when business is slow or less than they want it to be, that they “just want to help more people.” Frankly, this statement is usually a little paradoxical, and I’ve found that it’s not really the truth behind what’s going on. If you’ve ever felt like this, you need to get clear on what you truly mean, so you can take action steps to get there.

Everyone wants to make “passive income” online but there’s no such thing, at least, not as you know it. Mar 09, 2023
How often do you need to be talking about your services? Well, that’s up to you. It depends on your business model, the phase of business you’re in, what your goals are… I’ll say one thing, though. The more you talk about your services, the more money you’ll make. So, you could talk about it every day, or once a year. You’ll have to make that call.

MOTM #454: How Will AI and ChatGPT Affect Education? A Candid Conversation with a College Lecturer
Mar 02, 2023
Y’all know I’m a firm believer that ChatGPT is the future. Love it or hate it, AI is here to stay and it’s going to revolutionize how we do a lot of things. One of the biggest criticisms I hear for ChatGPT and other AI services is the impact it’ll make on education, specifically with regards to how the next generations will learn to communicate. If we have a service that can write essays for us, why would anyone learn to communicate their ideas, right?
That’s why I brought on real-life Professor of Writing Studies, Susan Miller. I asked Susan to give us her take on the AI revolution, the communication issues that people are facing today, and how she sees the integration of technology into our lives as we move into the “future.” Spoiler alert: there is no doom and gloom.

MOTM #439: Maximizing Productivity with ChatGPT: How AI will Transform Online Business
Jan 09, 2023
ChatGPT. You’ve heard of it, but what the hell is it, and is it the end of the road for creators? Y’all know it’s a little more complicated than that.
OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot is a groundbreaking program for generating text that I think is the future for creators everywhere. It can be used effectively as a collaborator by providing refined or condensed versions of input text. Blog posts, Instagram captions, and sales copy, whatever you need, you can start with ChatGPT. Sure, it may not be perfect, and it’ll need to be refined to ensure that it captures the right voice, but that’s where you come in!
You might have some fears about AI, and I hear that, but I see some bright sides, too. In my opinion, ChatGPT can be used to amplify your existing talents and make time-consuming tasks easier, rather than replacing the need for human effort.
Oh, and by the way? ChatGPT wrote this summary. All we had to do was edit it.
Let’s chat (GPT).

MOTM #436: Building and Creating a Life That You Want to Be Living with Meredith Root and Alex Parker
Dec 29, 2022
Y’all know what time it is. Last episode of the year, which means for the sixth—yes, you read that right, sixth!—time, I’m catching back up with Meredith Root and Alex Parker. In the time since we’ve last spoken their business, Tactic Functional Nutrition, has gone viral on Instagram, they got married, AND they added a pup to their girl crew.
Every time I have Meredith and Alex on, they bring truth, wisdom, and perspective we all need a little more of, and this episode is no exception. As Meredith puts it, you never get “better,” you just get better at doing hard things. When Instagram pivoted towards video, Tactic pivoted too, and they’ve grown in massive ways. I’m all about building the best life, and there’s no better example than Meredith and Alex.

So why did I leave? How did I leave? What exactly did that transition look like? What lessons do I hope that you take from my journey and apply to your own?
Tune into the full episode to find out.

Judgement is normal. Humans have been judging as long as we’ve been thinking, so don’t beat yourself up if you feel yourself start to judge. Y’all know my goal in life is to help you do the thing. But what if you’re deciding between two things: one that brings you a ton of joy and one that has a lot of demand, but you’re just okay with. MOTM #402: Are Instagram Numbers Real?
Sep 01, 2022
Instagram and TikTok are kind of like a virtual casino. We’re playing with tons of money (views and followers) that probably isn’t even real. What does 1 Million followers even mean if only 1,000 people like your post? But real people are still on social media, and you still need to connect with them.

We’re old enough now that we don’t have to be afraid to be good at shit anymore. No one is going to tell you that you’re too young to be taken seriously, and that’s fucking great! You put in the work, you’ve done the reps. Now believe the hype.
MOTM #398: What I’d Do if Instagram Died
Aug 18, 2022

I’m not planning for Instagram to go anywhere, anytime soon but as a business owner, I think it’s important to think about the what-ifs, especially as it comes to future-proofing your business. MOTM #396: The Biggest Benefit of Having a Small Business
Aug 11, 2022

MOTM #395: The Root of Business Scarcity
Aug 08, 2022
You don’t become the best by beating the best. That’s some old sports scarcity mindset, and probably a little insecurity in there, too. Maybe there isn’t room for literally everyone, but I do know that there is always room at the top. The best way to get there? MOAR you.

MOTM #393: The Psychology of Creating
Aug 01, 2022
With all these changes on Insta I find that people just aren’t creating the way they used to. No one is creating, even when creation is what lights their soul on fire. I knew exactly who I needed to talk to about this, and friends? This episode is so, SO good. It’s a must-listen.
Rachel Strickland is an artist herself, but she is also a development coach to other artists and creative entrepreneurs. Need help finding your way through the creative process? Meet Rachel. She’s gonna help you do the damn thing.

Instagram is changing, whether we like it or not. I understand if you don’t love the changes, but hey, Instagram is a FREE platform and in my opinion, bitching about the changes with no solution in mind is whack. Maybe it’s time to try something new (and by that I mean video content) or maybe you need to start focusing on the platforms you CAN control.
Let’s chat.

Instagram is changing
Complaining is wasting time

Let’s chat.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
Wasted time and wasted money
There’s always something to learn
We lose more by not trying
Make sure your goals are your own
Reframe your mindset
Rest is not wasted time

I firmly believe that your work should be something you love, but it’s just as important to have things outside of your job that fill your cup and give you joy. Burnout comes from not doing enough of the things you love. We can prevent burnout before it even happens when we invest in our own happiness.

MOTM #381: Changing Your Business Into Something You Love with Kathryn Bruni-Young
Jun 20, 2022
The last time Kathryn Bruni-Young was on the podcast, her business looked completely different. What was once a non-traditional yoga studio is now called “Mindful Strength” and business is better than ever. Kathryn didn’t know what would happen if she changed how her business looked, but she knew she had to.
There’s a lot of fear when you’re known for one specific thing and you want to change that. I want Kathryn to show you it’s okay to lean into something new, that your business will survive. In fact, when you do lean into that new thing, something amazing happens: you start attracting the right kinds of people—the people who are really interested in what you love doing.
It’s okay to worry about changing, but feel the fear and do it anyway. Everything you want is waiting for you on the other side.

How do you change or restructure your business when you’re sensitive af? Lemme help you.
The feelings of fear and hurt you’re feeling when its time to change up your business are real! You care a lot, that’s why you’re so damn good at what you do. However, just because you’re scared of change or hurting someone’s feelings doesn’t mean things should stay the same. You have to move forward to better serve your audience. Feel those big feelings, then move through them. Action is the only way through, and action is what will make you feel better, too.

MOTM #379: When Ambitious Action Feels Isolating
Jun 09, 2022
The backlash you might face when you’re taking big action is real. If you’re a doer, you’re unintentionally holding up a mirror to a lot of people’s insecurities, and some people don’t like that. MOTM #378: Creating an Experience For Your People with Dr. Kyle Paxton
Jun 06, 2022
Kyle Paxton was first on this podcast 4 years ago to talk about IKN (his continuing education course) and in the time since we last spoke, Kyle has opened up 3 clinic locations, moved his course online to international success, owns a Body Mass Composition testing company, earned his real estate certification, and is pretty much an Instagram model. Basically, he does all the things.
I want to show you what life looks like outside of what’s considered “traditional,” and Kyle is the perfect example of that. He doubles down on what he’s great at and builds amazing teams to fill in the rest, and now he has all of these thriving companies to show for it. Kyle wasn’t always sure where he was going, but he focused on providing great experiences for his customers, and now he has everything to show for it.
In Kyle’s words, you don’t need to fear trying new things, and you don’t need to have some sort of master plan before you start. Just pay attention to what interests you and stay action-oriented as you go. If you focus on creating the best possible experience for your people, they’ll share how awesome your product is and they’ll keep coming back again and again.

Starting his course and his clinic “early”
It doesn’t need to be a huge practice, just a really great one

MOTM #377: How To Handle Social Media Overwhelm
Jun 02, 2022
Social media overwhelm is real. While you can’t control your feelings (aka your overwhelm), you CAN take some time to respond to them better. Trust yourself to handle the outcome
MOTM #376: A Different Way to Do Business
May 26, 2022
This episode is totally inspired by this past weekend’s Legacy live event. There is something so powerful about connection that cannot be replicated. There’s magic in being in a room with a bunch of bad-ass business ladies and knowing that we all run our businesses differently.
Because you don’t have to run your business one specific way for it to “work.” And there isn’t one specific way to be successful either. You decide what success is for yourself. You decide what works, and you decide what you want your business to look like. We can take a human-centered approach. We can do business differently.
MOTM #375: Reviewing Inquistive_Human’s Relate Skills Intensive
May 19, 2022
If you didn’t know, I was recently a part of a 4-month relationship skills intensive put on by my friend, James-Olivia Chu Hillman. If you don’t know them by now (which would surprise me, as they have inspired countless episodes) then go listen to our two previous episodes.
Not gonna lie, I was concerned about joining a 4-month group intensive, but it was an experience unlike anything else I’ve done and I’m so glad I did. I wanted to do a little recap/review/relay of what the intensive looked and felt like, why I joined, and what I learned. If you have even the slightest urgings that you might want to join, do it. Everything is done through relating, and you will develop skills we all need to be learning.
Let’s chat.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
An intensive unlike anything I’ve ever been a part of

MOTM #374: Getting Really Good at Fewer Things with Jill Coleman
May 16, 2022
Have you met my friend, Jill? Jill Coleman (you might know her as JillFit) is the nicest lady in the whole damn world. She’s also a rockstar entrepreneur who absolutely CRUSHED it in 2021. We’re talking a 7-figure year kind of crushing it, and she’s here on the podcast to tell us her secrets.
Except, well… there are no secrets. Jill is just that good. She puts in the work every day and sticks with her shit until her shit works. She prioritizes discipline over motivation. She invests in herself and her business. She has the lady-balls to do something and be someone different.
I want to be like Jill when I grow up.
We talk about how to run group-model coaching, how to lower your own barrier to entry so you can do the damn thing, how and when to outsource in your biz, dealing with business boredom, developing mastery, why podcasting is the new blogging, and how Jill would start an online business if she was beginning right now. There’s so much good stuff, I don’t even know why you’re wasting your time reading this. Get listening!
MOTM #373: How to Know if It’s a “Good” Plan
May 12, 2022
It takes time to achieve mastery and success. So, if you’re jumping around and trying a million different things, you probably aren’t giving enough time to one plan to figure out if it even works or not. Want to be successful? Stick with one “good” plan until you find success.

Let’s chat.

MOTM #372: How to Measure Progress
May 05, 2022
Inspired by my recent volleyball tournament and some knee-related pain I’ve been experiencing, I wanted to give you my hot take on measuring progress: how to set goals, what to look out for, and when might be the right time to give up.
The biggest part of this I want you to understand is that everything is subjective. So what is worth it to you? Get in the driver’s seat and take control. It is your life, after all.
Let’s chat.

MOTM #371: Creating a Bright Future for Physical Therapists with Dr. Danny Matta
May 02, 2022
Dr. Danny Matta. He’s a repeat podcast offender, but I just can’t help but want to talk with this guy.
He is a prolific content creator, an amazing business owner, and he’s all about giving people the tool’s they need to succeed.
PT’s have such a high burnout rate, and that sucks, especially in a career that has such a great opportunity for personal satisfaction and reward. Nobody wants to feel like they wasted their time, money, and life on PT school. Danny is changing that—not only by running a business that frees PT’s from god-awful mill jobs, but by inspiring them to try PT entrepreneurship, and designing a life that feels good and brings in money.
I say it every time he comes on the show, and it’s still true: if you’re a PT, aspiring entrepreneur, or even a current business owner—listen to this episode. He’s just that good.

MOTM #368: What It’s Like in the Trenches of Online Business with Dr. Sarah Doan
Apr 18, 2022
Dr. Sarah Doan is a member of my Mafia, and at a recent Mafia dinner she brought up an excellent point—I have a lot of guests on the podcast who are already seeing wins in their online businesses… but what about people in the beginning stages? What about people still in the trenches, working hard af every day before their success?
So whether or not she realized it, Sarah volunteered herself to come here and share exactly that. Sarah’s online business is brand new. She is in the trenches, fighting every day. If you’re starting out, let this shine some real life perspective on what this life might look like for you.

MOTM #367: IG Q+A: Getting Back in Your Groove & Planning for the Future as a Movement Pro
Apr 14, 2022
Did another IG Q+A this week including a question that gave me the giggles. One: how to get back in your groove. Two: planning for your future as a movement pro who doesn’t want to be dancing on Insta well into your 60’s. I love these questions, and there’s something for y’all to learn, even if you’re not a movement pro.
MOTM #366: Do You “Need” to Hire a Coach?
Apr 07, 2022
There’s a lot of noise out there about hiring coaches and I wanted to share my perspective with y’all—not to promote my own services—but almost to do the opposite.
You do not NEED a coach. They can’t guarantee success, but they can be a sort of shortcut. That is, of course, assuming you work with the coach that’s right for you. Here’s the criteria I think you should look out for.
Let’s chat.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
Fear based vs. positivity focused marketing models
You don’t NEED a coach, coaches don’t NEED coaches

MOTM #365: Everything You Need to Know About ACL Rehab with Dr. Natty Bandasak
Apr 04, 2022
All Italian restaurants make penne alla vodka, but only a few make a truly great dish. Stick with me here, I promise it’ll make sense in a PT context.
Dr. Natty Bandasack is an ACL rehab pro. He’s SO good that he wrote a whole-ass book containing everything needed to recover from an ACL injury, and he wrote with athletes, parents, and coaches in mind—no confusing medical terms that real patients don’t understand.
Dr. Natty knows what he’s good at, and he’s doubled down on it. Sure, plenty of PT clinics might know a thing or two about ACL rehab, but Natty and his Myokinetix team are experts. See what I mean about the penne alla vodka?
Know your strengths and focus on what you’re good at. Niching down means you help more people, and you make far more of an impact than just knowing a little bit about everything.

Forrest Jung is the owner of CrossFit South Bay, and started his gym before anybody knew what the hell CrossFit even was. He’s had success in his gym for 13 years, and now he’s blowing up on TikTok (and Reels!).
Forrest didn’t want to post o social media at first. But after the uncertainty of Covid, he knew it was time to try something new, even if that meant facing impostor syndrome and internet bullies. Now look at him—he’s a goddamn rockstar.
Do the damn thing. Start posting. It’s as easy as being yourself. Just look at what Forrest has built.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
Starting a CrossFit Gym (when no one knew what CrossFit was)
MOTM #361: How to Create Content and “Communicate the Picture”
Mar 17, 2022
In last week’s Shorty, I told you about the 3 C’s: collect the dot, connect the dots, then communicate the picture. Sure that’s great and all, but how the hell do you communicate the picture? Well, you may already be doing it (and it’s easier than you think).

Mar 07, 2022
Friends, I am SO STOKED for you to hear this episode.
Dr. Mitchell Rasmussen is a functional medicine doctor and chiropractor—but not in the way you’re imagining. Mitchell does things a little… non-traditionally. You know I’m all about that.
We talk a lot about body and brain science, inflammation, and becoming your own health advocate, and how to really lead from the front.
I first brought Mitchell on the podcast four years ago for episode number 14! He's since doubled down on what sets his soul on fire, and he's on an absolute mission to bring his patients the best care possible and redefine functional medicine.
No bandaid solutions. No unnecessary tests. No plethora of supplements being prescribed without addressing the foundation.
Mitchell brings a humanness to how he practices, and it's something that I believe every healthcare professional should focus on. Pair that with how completely obsessed he is with his craft, and you've got a recipe for an absolutely phenomenal physician.
Want to learn a practical and actually achievable place to start working on your health? This is the episode for you.

Mar 03, 2022
I’m not a fan of traditional marketing—it’s made to make us question ourselves, to give us self doubt. Just because we’ve always done it “that way” doesn’t make it the best. We can do marketing better, we can have and share that self-trust.
Let’s chat.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
My problem with traditional marketing

MOTM #356: The Taboo of Testosterone with Ali Gilbert
Feb 21, 2022
Let’s cut right to the chase, my guest this week is here to normalize boner talk. Did you EVER think you’d hear me say that word, let alone spend oven an hour talking about… uh… “it”? Yeah, me neither.
But that’s what Ali Gilbert does. She makes you feel so damn comfortable talking about anything, because that’s just who she is. 100% real, unapologetically Ali. That shit is rare.
“Hold up. Boners?!” I hear you. Yes boners, and so much more. In a time where our hormones seem to be under attack, its more important than ever to take health into our own hands, and that means talking about something that may seem a little taboo. Ali helps men perform not just “normally,” (whatever that means) but optimally—and it all has to do with one simple ingredient: Testosterone.

MOTM #355: Reasons (and Inspiration) to Keep Posting on Instagram
Feb 17, 2022
If you're trying to grow a biz in the online space, using social media has pretty much become a non-negotiable. But just because something is necessary doesn't make it easy. You all know I’m a big advocate for posting consistently…and by consistently…I mean daily. Again, far from easy, but the main reason I encourage daily posting likely isn't what you think.
I believe that posting can be an incredible tool for personal growth and personal discovery, but again, that doesn't make it any easier.
Thus I decided to record this episode and hopefully provide you not just with reasons to post, but a little bit of inspiration.
Let’s chat.
In This Episode You'll Hear:

She has over 20 years of experience in Massage Therapy and is committed to elevating the profession and helping LMTs make a real income while protecting their energy and providing a service that keeps clients coming back time after time.
This chick gets booked a year in advance. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to listen to what she has to say .
Q’s message is one of showing up with authenticity and creating a business that serves you. Burnout is preventable, energy management can be strategized, and you can absolutely create the life you want as a massage therapist. Drips ain’t the way .

MOTM #351: Managing Expectations as a New Online Business Owner
Jan 27, 2022
Jill and I hosted our in-person LEGACY 2.0 event this past weekend, and one thing that kept coming up was expectation management, so that’s what we’re talking about today on this Thursday (not-so-short) Shorty.
Honestly, this shit ain’t sexy, but its the truth. You’re not gonna get rich quick with online business, so here are some numbers to help you get your expectations in check. Put your head down, put in the work.
MOTM #350: Accepting and Focusing On the Present
Jan 20, 2022

MOTM #349: Living Along With the Seasons with Emilie Reid
Jan 17, 2022
I have an interesting episode for ya this week, and it might sound a little “woo-woo” at first but that’s a good thing, I want it to. I want to challenge you to look at the bigger picture, to open your mind to what is happening in the world around you.
Meet Emilie Reid. Emilie is a wellness coach who empowers and teaches others to live with the seasons—both of nature and of our bodies—to find healthier and more fulfilling lives. As with many things on this podcast, I want you all to listen around the edges because it just makes so much sense, especially within business.
When you know yourself, inside and out, you can better understand how to show up for your people and teach them what they really need.
Y’all know that I teach that niching down is imperative for you and your business. I know it feels scary—what if you’re leaving money on the table? What if you run out of things to say, or you get bored?
Trust me. There is always more to say, more people to serve. And hey, if you end up crushing it and you feel the call to move on, you absolutely can. But niche down first.

Jan 03, 2022
First episode of 2022 and you all know it’s a tradition at this point, I HAD to have on Meredith Root and Alex Parker. This is their fifth time on (can you believe it!?) and I look forward to this every year.
If, for some unexplainable reason, you’re not familiar with who they are, Meredith and Alex are the masterminds behind Tactic Functional Nutrition. Tactic is growing (and growing fast) so I wanted to hear all about how Meredith and Alex are dealing with business changes, managing a team, and what it’s like for your business partner to also be your romantic partner.
Meredith and Alex always bring the heat. They’re kicking ass and taking names not only in business, but in their personal goals as well. Women are often taught to think smaller, to sell themselves short. Not Meredith and Alex. They rise to the top, no matter what.

MOTM #343: Start With Your Values with Laura Jean
Dec 20, 2021
I recently learned that I have a twin, and her name is Laura Jean. Okay, okay, we look nothing alike and she hails from the land down under, but the core of what she teaches is near and dear to my heart. I desperately wanted to share her, and her message, with all of you.
Laura Jean helps dietitians—and ALL health professionals—build value-based businesses where they and their clients can flourish. (The use of that word is highly intentional, by the way.)
Your values are the foundation of your business, and they’re not just nouns… they’re verbs, they’re aspirations. The best way to prevent burnout in business is to show up as yourself, lead with your values, and go steadily. How are you showing up?

MOTM #340: You Can Make A Great Living As A Personal Trainer with Betsy Foster
Dec 06, 2021
I realized that most of the episodes on this podcast are geared towards a more entrepreneurial model, and today I wanted to offer a different perspective. The message I always want to get across is that YOU create your own best life, and that doesn’t always look like running your own business. There is always another way.
Betsy Foster helps personal trainers stay within the traditional gym model. Gyms and personal trainers aren’t going anywhere, so Betsy had the courage to ask, “how can we make it better?” Making a living as a personal trainer IS possible. Betsy wants to show you how.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
How Betsy found personal training
If you want to do it, just try it out
Personal training can be more than just a job
How a theatre background brought Betsy to movement
Personal Trainers vs. Coaches
Betsy’s journey in the traditional gym
Understanding why people go to the gym
The magic happens in the gray area
The services Betsy provides
Can you make a viable living as a personal trainer?
MOTM #339: Reframing How We Solve Problems
Dec 02, 2021
Listened to a podcast the other day that got me thinking about how we solve our “problems.” Its only a problem if it’s a problem for YOU.
If gets in the way of your goals, it’s a problem. If you just do things differently, that’s a good thing. As always, I want to see MOAR you at the forefront of what you do.
Let’s chat.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
Why it’s only a problem if it’s a problem
Trying to pathologize things that are different
Different is not a problem
Put MOAR you at the forefront
Taking an indivualized approach to everything you do
MOTM #338: What to Do if You Hate Social Media but Want to Use It for Online Business
Nov 25, 2021
What do you do when you hate social media, but want to use it for online business? Let me ask you a few questions first… Why do you even WANT to use it? And what do you hate about it?
The best part of owning your own business is that you don’t have to do things you don’t like. So if you hate something… just don’t do it. Simple.
MOTM #337: 10 Things I Want Every New Online Business Owner to Know
Nov 18, 2021
This week I thought I’d get tactical and put together a list of the 10 most important things I think every new online entrepreneur needs. Went a little long for a shorty, but what can I say? I’m passionate as hell about this.
MOTM #336: Bridging the Gap Between Fitness and Healthcare with Dr. Sean Pastuch
Nov 15, 2021
My guest today is on a mission and I am pumped to get to talk all about it.
If, ten years ago, you had asked me if I believed in what I’m about to share with you… I wouldn’t be able to say yes. But that’s the power of hard work, niching down, and really working on the messaging and communication of your ideas. I am SO glad we’re back in each others’ eco-systems.
Dr. Sean Pastuch is the founder and CEO of Active Life Rx. His mission is simple: bridging the gap between healthcare and fitness—all to empower the individual.
If you’re in healthcare or fitness, you NEED to hear this. If you’re not, well, there’s plenty to learn by listening around the edges. This is one of my longer conversations, but believe me when I tell you it’s gonna fly by. You’ll thank me later.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
The origins of Active Life Rx
What these conversations with healthcare professionals look like
Get really specific at what you do, then do that
Only pursue what gives you energy

The mission leads to the money
Humanizing healthcare
Bring fitness to healthcare, not healthcare to fitness
I had Emilie Reed stop by a Mafia dinner in October and what she said really spoke out to me. What if instead of looking at life like a closed circle, we viewed it as a spiral?
You might be spiralling right now, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
MOTM #333: Have the Courage to Ask with Amanda Schoultz
Nov 01, 2021
Did something completely different for this episode and for the first time ever brought on a listener of the podcast. You might not know her but you’re definitely going to love her.
I’ve said it a bunch of times, and specifically mentioned in an earlier episode with @inquistive_human that I really don’t know who specifically is listening to my podcast. Podcasting is truly one of those semi-lonely, very uni-directional things. Lo and behold someone reached out, sending me an email telling me about herself, and her story was so interesting I wrote back wanting to learn MOAR, and eventually invited her on to the podcast to share her words with my people.
Meet Amanda Schoultz. She’s the first listener I’ve had on the podcast in this capacity, and I am confident her story will resonate with you.
This conversation FLEW by and honestly brought me so much joy. I was blown away by Amanda’s worldview and her wisdom (just wait til’ the part where she talks about people not fearing change ). I want you to listen closely, and really hear the value of asking and building authentic relationships. They are two things that can absolutely help you get anywhere you want to go.
MOTM #332: What to Do If Your Success Makes You Feel Guilty
Oct 28, 2021
It’s not uncommon to feel guilty about your success. I want everyone to have the freedom and the choices I have!
But stopping myself from having these good things doesn’t help anyone, doesn’t bring anyone closer to their own goals. Far moar good comes from enjoying yourself and using your privilege to inspire others. Caring about it allows you to fight for it, for the people who want it, too.
MOTM #330: Creating a Business That Never Goes Out of Business with Jill Coleman
Oct 18, 2021
The champ is here!!!
You know her. You love her. I have to wear a helmet every time I hang out with her.
She is an OG in the online business world, mother of the adorable @pipthePomsky, and one of my closest friends. My guest today could be none other than @JillFit, aka Jill Coleman.
Full disclosure, I brought Jill on to talk about our program, Legacy, but also to give you direct insight about what it’s like to work with her. I wanted you to hear FROM her, not just about her.
Yes, we run a mentormind together, but it’s so much more than that. Jill and I share a lot of the same values, and it shows in how we run our businesses. Y’all know I only work with the absolute BEST people, and Jill sets the standard.
She embodies “Doing the damn thing.” She leads from the front in everything she does. And honestly, I swear she is the nicest lady ever. Legit.
Together we’re on a mission to change the game and show business just what’s possible.
Applications for LEGACY are open, but even if you have no interest in joining, tune into this episode and spend time listening to someone who has truly dedicated themselves to their craft. It inspires the hell out of me, and my guess is it’ll do the same for you.
In This Episode You'll Hear:
Why did we start Legacy?
Build a business that won’t go out of business
Put your footprint down now
Work-life integration
Jill’s “Why” transforming from ME to WE
Why we Legacy is made for women
Leading from the front
