Welcome to Madames, Heaux, and Gigolos a podcast about the history of sex work and historical events surrounding sexual revolution.
I am your host Heather and with me is my friend Connor.
Together we have created a biweekly podcast discussing all topics in regards to history and sex.
But why? Why this topic, Heather?
Well, history and sex are two fascinating subjects. There are great stories not told in history books surrounding these topics, so I think this would be a great way for the events to be heard.
What made you want to do a podcast about sex work in particular?
It started out as a COVID project, then manifested into this podcast. The topics are interesting rabbit holes to to fall down and a great way to normalize sex work, and empower.
Many men, and women, gay, straight, bisexual, queer, and transgender, have done incredible things in history, but their stories are rarely shared.
Why? Because of the taboo of the occupation.
Maya Angelou, civil rights activist, poet, and award winning author was also a sex worker. A madame to a lesbian couple when she was 19 and a single mother. She was proud of her work and wrote about it in her second autobiography titled, “Gather Together in My Name”. But “madame” is never listed in her long list of accomplishments. She was never ashamed of her sex work and openly discuss it.
With sex work and events in history about sex, politics are usually involved. With Governments regulating bodies and determining who a sanctioned union is between, some of our subjects may have had run-ins with the law. And politics may be discussed.
So I’d just like to be forward and say Black Lives Matter, Love is Love, Women's Right, Trans Rights, and Gay Rights are Human Rights. And Science is real.
