More Letters of Recommendation Advice (Ep. 116) Dec 06, 2021
    Show notes

Listener Angie emailed the show to share that students have the option to print out a letter of recommendation form for their recommenders to submit via snail mail. Although the online route is much faster, Nathan is glad to learn that this option is available. It might help applicants whose recommenders are a little more “old school.”

Does My Undergrad Degree Matter for Law School? (Ep. 114) Dec 02, 2021
    Show notes

Demon student Beth has a great GPA, but she’s wondering whether schools will look down on the fact that she went to a mid-level school with an easy major. Ben surmises that admissions officers may view a high GPA in a liberal arts major as less impressive than a high GPA in Physics, for example. But at the end of the day, the number is what matters most. Nathan reminds listeners that only GPAs and LSAT scores are reported on the ABA 509. Undergraduate institutions and majors don’t affect schools’ rankings, so they matter very little.

Do you really want to be a lawyer? (Ep. 113) Dec 01, 2021
    Show notes

An anonymous listener asks for advice on his future law career. He says he needs to go into “something meaningful and helpful (not corporate law),” but he also wants to come out of law school making six figures. Nathan and Mike suspect that this may not be the best career path for Anonymous since it seems that he’s looking for the “unicorn” job. Anonymous should really consider whether he would enjoy working as a lawyer or whether another career path would better suit his needs.

    Show notes

Demon student J has a few issues with his undergraduate grades and is wondering just how much information ought to be included in his GPA addendum. Nathan and Jon suggest that J contact his university’s registrar and ask about getting dual-credit grades from high school removed from his transcript—the worst they can say is no. Nathan advises J not to disclose personal family matters. He and Jon discuss how to write a GPA addendum without oversharing.

Restarting LSAT Study After a Break (Ep. 111) Nov 29, 2021
    Show notes

Demon student Sia took Nathan and Ben’s advice to wait until next September to apply. Now she’s wondering whether it’s worth her time to start studying for the LSAT again even though she already has a great GPA and a decent LSAT score on record. The guys strongly recommend that Sia get back on the horse and aim for a higher LSAT score. With her high GPA, just a few more LSAT points could set her up to compete in the big leagues.
