#12 Body Positivity and "Skinny" Clothes with Carrie Dayton Nov 14, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode, we chat with Body Positive Youtub-er Carrie Dayton, who also happens to be a long time friend of mine. In the last year or so she has really shifted the focus of her VERY popular YouTube channel to talk more about body image and body positivity. She talks all things dieting as well as embracing her body at a larger size now that she is in her thirties. A topic we discuss is hanging onto "skinny clothes" or clothes that do not fit our here and now body which is something that I think a lot of us can relate to. We talk about her Story Time videos and her Big Sis advice videos which are also something that so many women connect with. Slight trigger warning around the 23-minute mark we mention exact sizes so please skip past that if you have an active ED. #11 When Healthy Eating Becomes Unhealthy Nov 07, 2018
    Show notes

Disclaimer: information in the podcast is for educational and informational purposes only and does not intend to diagnose or treat disease. It is not a substitute for individual medical advice. In this episode, I address a question I have been getting on Instagram about healthy eating and intuitive eating. There is a common misconception that intuitive eating and anti-diet means anti-nutrition, which could not be further from the truth. This notion is a result of black and white thinking around nutrition and health that comes from diet culture and even wellness culture which I explain in this episode. Typically when we look at health in a silo and think that we need to eliminate all unhealthy foods to be healthy we fall into disordered eating and restrictive thinking that interferes with the quality of our life. This episode explains when "healthy eating" can actually be unhealthy. Giveaway winner from this episode is emeck11. Please DM me or email me to claim your prize. Thank you so much for your thoughtful review and to all of those who have left reviews, thank you so so much!

#10 Body Image and Diet Culture from the Mans Perspective Oct 31, 2018
    Show notes

*HAPPY HALLOWEEN! In this episode, I get real and vulnerable with you. Not only do we interview my boyfriend, Brent, and he share's what it's like to be a fat man in a fatphobic world but I also share with you about how at first his body size kept me at arm's length.

I admit stuff I've never admitted out loud before but I also share with you how he has helped me grow and shift my perspective on fatness. Brent shares about his history with food, dieting, calorie restriction, and body insecurities.

He also talks about how weight and body size is not a deal breaker in dating and he shares with us what most men care about more than a skinny body.

#9 How Scales Contribute to Food & Body Obsession Oct 24, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode, I talk about how getting on the scale can be very triggering if we are struggling with food and how it further disconnects us from our Body Wisdom. Like many, I used to get on the scale and let that number mean something about my worth as a human and it influenced how the rest of the day would go. It affected my mood, self-esteem, and food and exercise choices. I challenge the "accountability and motivating argument" that I so often hear. Instead of waking up, and "checking in" with a weigh-in, I offer another, more potent and effective way to take care of your health. *the third giveaway winner is Michalushhh! I read your review on this episode, please contact me on Instagram to claim your prize!! http://instagram.com/caraskitchen You still have a chance to enter to win 1 of 2 prizes by leaving a rating and review on iTunes. #8 The Pendulum Swing From Binge Eating to Orthorexia w/ Molly Alliman Oct 17, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode, Molly and I talk about her transition from being a binge eater, who mainly survived on processed foods to becoming orthorexic and having a fixation with "clean eating," to eventually transitioning to a healthy, happy middle ground where she can enjoy kale smoothies and greasy pizza from Brooklyn in peace. We also talk about how calorie reduction for weight loss is counterproductive, food quality, fear of carbs, a love of bread and cellulite in advertisements for yoga clothes! You can find Molly: https://www.instagram.com/balancebymolly/ https://www.balancebymolly.com/ Also, I picked two giveaway winners who left a rating & review on iTunes. We talk about her inspiring career in health, from working in food and beverage, publishing her book, Happy Weight, to becoming a professor for the Nutritional Therapy Association. #5 Speaking My Truth and The Problem is Not Your Body Sep 26, 2018
    Show notes

This is a lengthy solo episode that has two parts. First, I share with you about a breakthrough I had at a women's retreat this past weekend about speaking my truth and my commitment moving forward to trust my voice. The second part is a result of that breakthrough. I am talking about something that has been on my mind but I haven't talked much about before today out of fear of being too polarizing. And that is how I believe the work I am doing falls under social justice and women's rights. I am an accidental activist and believe that freeing women up from body shame and food obsession is an act of feminism. The problem is not your body. The problem is the culture that makes you believe something is wrong with you if you do not look like a Barbie doll. I mention this podcast in the episode and for more context on what I am talking about, check it out: https://unladylike.co/episodes/020/equal-rights-amendment I reference quotes from the book "The Beauty Myth" by Naomi Wolf

    #4 Dieting is a Threat to Health w/ Jessica Rothley, @whollyhealed Sep 19, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode, I interview Jessica Demasi Rothley, EPC a.k.a. @Whollyhealed on Instagram. We explore the implications of dieting and disordered eating on female hormone health and what happens when half the population is chronically underfed. I ask her if she thinks "wellness culture" is the new "diet culture" and she has a fabulous answer. I especially love her popular #TabooTuesday posts, including why "fat is not a feeling" and "female nudity." She believes real talk is the only kind of talk and I could not agree more. Quote: "A culture fixated on female thinness is not an obsession about female beauty, but an obsession about female obedience. Dieting is the most potent political sedative in women’s history; a quietly mad population is a tractable one.” - Naomi Wolf Find Jessica: https://www.instagram.com/whollyhealed/ https://whollyhealed.com/ If you love this episode, please leave a rating and review in iTunes.

#3 How We Hold Ourselves Back From Cultivating Body Wisdom Sep 05, 2018

This episode piggybacks on episode #2 where I introduced my concept of Body Wisdom, and how the outside world interrupts our ability to tune into our woven in wisdom and intuition about how best to nourish our body machines. In this episode, I further explain what Body Wisdom entails, how we create self-constructed blocks that get in the way and how to overcome them. My book, Body Wisdom, a Guide to Rediscovering Your Relationship with Food, Trusting your Intuition and Becoming Your Own Health Expert is available on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Body-Wisdom-Trusting-Intuition-Becoming-ebook/dp/B07D5P8454 As mentioned in the podcast, if you leave ratings a review on iTunes, you will be automatically entered to win a giveaway of 1 of 2 prizes, so if you loved what you heard pretty please leave a rating and review. #2 What is Body Wisdom and What Stops Us From Tuning Into It? Sep 04, 2018
    Show notes

In this episode, I share with you about a core concept that has created the foundation of what I teach my clients and that is Body Wisdom. Body Wisdom is having a deep, intimate relationship with your body based on the signals, cues, and information it sends you. We each have woven in wisdom and our bodies already have the perfect plan for health and wellness programmed into them. We just have to start to listen. But there are major blocks in the world of health and nutrition that make it hard for us to tune in and hear what our body is saying. I break down the top 5 blocks that most of us face so you can see where you are getting stuck. Body Wisdom is also the title of my book, You can find the book on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Body-Wisdom-Trusting-Intuition-Becoming-ebook/dp/B07D5P8454
