    For this espiosde we once again have the pleasure of welcoming Aaron Smith, who has been on the the show a few times talking about the Road Hogs group rides.

    • Aaron rides from South Carolina to San Francisco, CA.
      • Started September 19th, 2018 and returned September 29th, 2018.
      • Planned to take northern route (I-80), however snow in the mountains changed plans to the southern route.
      • Completed back to back days over 1,000 miles each.

      • Traveled thru Yosemite National Park on way to Las Vegas, NV.

    120: Introducing the MotoNobodies Podcast Mar 05, 2018

    This week we have some very exciting news to share coming out of RDub Studios. To help with this news, we invited Amp'd and Bacon to join us. So the big news is that we have launched a second show! It's going to be hosted by Bacon, Amp'd, and Jon. The show is called MotoNobodies and will be a chat about the MotoNobodies meet-ups and the daily chats within the group. The MotoNobodies group started back in 2016 and have been talking and meeting up since then. The plan is also to bring in other MotoNobodies members to share in the chat.     119: Jon has an Iron Butt Feb 27, 2018
    Show notes

    Tonight Rich and Rico get the latest news from Jon on his past weekend trip with the Moto Amino Dragon Krew. Jon took a little adventure and rode down to Key West, Florida. On the ride down the plan was to complete the saddle sore 1000 Iron Butt Challenge. This challenge is to complete 1000 miles in 24 hours or less. There was a small delay in getting out of North Carolina as DaRula's chain broke while running about 70 mph on I-85 just south of Charlotte, NC. To answer the question - yes everyone doing the saddle sore did complete it, in fact they did 1119 miles in 22 1/4 hours!

    After arriving at the hotel at 1:30 AM - back on the road by 9:30 AM to finish the ride to Key West, FL. Did a little sightseeing and then headed back north and planning to stay at OIFVET22's house south west of Jacksonville, FL. Before getting back to the mainland of Florida, Jon followed a recommendation from brother Zyon to stop for dinner at Hobo Cafe in Key Largo, FL. Highly recommend the place if you are in the area.

    The Dragon Krew didn't arrive until 5 AM. After a little sleep and home cooked meal they were back on the road around 12:30 pm and Irish's brother-in-law escorted the Krew out of state. Jon arrives home around 11:30 pm, but there was a small adventure with an NC state trooper.

    #1, your gear is your primary setup for climate control, get something as comfortable as possible, and minimize gear that is distracting.

    • Ride your ride, no need to keep up with advanced riders beyond your skill level

    Find a helmet that FITS properly!

    • Recommend a full face, but that’s your decision

    Boots

    • Over the ankle, sturdy, perhaps leather, sneakers need not apply, flip flops, your an idiot

    Gloves

    • Good place to spend some money for quality and comfort, remember climate control..
    • Three finger gloves for Bacon ;)

    Jacket

    • Leather or Nylon, consider changing weather needs and rain options

    Pants

    • recommend riding jeans with full kevlar or motorcycle specific riding pants

    113: Get Some Training Part 1 - New and Returning Rider Series Jan 13, 2018

    We want to help out new and returning riders and give our input on what should be some of your first steps. With Jon on the Moto Amino app and hanging with the Dragon Krew, he meets Irishman. Irishman is a 23-year motorcycle veteran with well over 300k on sport and cruiser bikes. Then on top of that, he was a full-time MSF instructor while stationed in Japan and still fills in at Nash and Franklin County community colleges. We also want to thank Irishman for his service to our country as he served in the Marines for 15 years. We are once again happy to have KP Moto join us as well to provide his input as a young rider.

    Where to start:

    • Take a training class - if you are new it's a great way to see if you like riding with out buying a bike.
      • MSF at community colleges
      • Rider Edge at local Harley-Davison dealerships
      • Learn from a friend
      • Watch videos online.
    • If you are returning rider, we recommend taking a training class to refresh you. This was submitted by one of our Riders of Loud Pipes Chad. Good idea for all riders to get a refresher course from time to time.
    • Starter Bike:
      • 300cc sport bike
      • 650cc cruiser style bike

    U-Turn:

    • Jon gives an update on his Spyder.....
      • Purge valve showed up on Friday, January 5th, 2018 and tech going to install on January 6th, 2018.
      • While visiting Jon talked to the manager and was told some 2017 F3-S where coming back from demo duty.
      • Jon got a call from Sales manager about how he might want to get F3-S
      • Jon and Natalie went to dealership and Jon could not pass up the deal and purchased a 2017 F3-S!!!

    112: New Rider Series and Spyder Sadness Jan 05, 2018

    This week kicks off with an announcement of our new rider series. At least four episodes dedicated to helping new and returning riders get into motorcycling. Jon is pulled into the conversation on his Spyder so that we can all get a proper update on all the sadness.

    NEW RIDER SERIES

    We are starting a mini-series, that eventually will be put together as a reference episode. The idea is, let’s do our part for the motorcycle community and help to foster new riders

    Four part series covering the following major topics:

    • Get some training
      • Monday 1/8/2018 we will record this episode with a former motorcycle safety instructor
    • Get some gear
      • Let’s cover the basics of what a new rider should get
      • Where to spend your money
      • Gear that you don’t ne ed
    • Get a bike
      • Look at bikes suited for a learning rider
      • New models available
      • Good used bike choices
      • Scooters (can start without having a license)
      • Dirt riding (Rich feels one of the best ways to understand and practice bike control)
    • Find your community (although we could argue this should be first)
      • Reach out to various social media outlets that interest you
      • Facebook, EatSleepRide, Moto-Amino, podcasts, and more
      • Local events, local dealers, club, industry, trade shows, etc
