Mike Clevinger is under investigation and where do the Chicago White Sox go from here? Jan 26, 2023

Show notes

Mike Clevinger is under investigation and where do the Chicago White Sox go from here? While the White Sox have said in a statement that they will not comment further while the investigation takes place, their silence speaks volumes. Should the Sox be proactive as well as decisive and cut Clevinger right now? The longer this investigation takes place, the bigger of a mess it may become. Clevinger was a gamble to begin with and with the latest allegations, he could be a question mark in 2023 for all new reasons. If the White Sox are without Clevinger this season, could Davis Martin step into the 5th spot in the rotation? Martin had his moments last season but ended the year on a miserable note. No matter if it's Martin or someone else, the Sox will most likely need to find a replacement. Recent rumors point to the Sox being interested in trading for Kansas City Royals infielder, Nicky Lopez. Do the Sox really want to weaken an already weak farm system on Nicky Lopez? Also, what can we expect from starting pitcher Michael Kopech? He might be someone the Sox need to lean on in 2023 but will he be healthy enough for the challenge?

Mailbag Wednesday: Will Eloy Jiménez be the Opening Day right fielder for the Chicago White Sox? Jan 25, 2023

Show notes

Mailbag Wednesday: Will Eloy Jiménez be the Opening Day right fielder for the Chicago White Sox? Jiménez made himself available to the media recently and expressed his strong desire to play the outfield this season instead of being the designated hitter. He spoke about how hard he has been working but also recognized the importance of staying healthy. Did the White Sox create this murky situation by not acquiring a proven right fielder this off-season? Also, the Sox released a hype video as they advertised that single game tickets would be on sale in early February. Several players were featured in the video and the message of making up for a disappointing season seemed to be the main focus. Earning back the trust of the fans is important however the latest developments regarding allegations of domestic violence and child abuse by Mike Clevinger might be the last straw for a lot of fans. Many Sox fans are wondering if 2023 will just be another version of 2022.

Is it addition by subtraction for the Chicago White Sox as Luis Arráez is out of the AL Central? Jan 24, 2023

Show notes

Is it addition by subtraction for the Chicago White Sox as Luis Arráez is out of the AL Central? In an offseason that has featured very few moves by the White Sox, perhaps the biggest move for the Sox is the fact that the Minnesota Twins have traded away Arráez? It does not give the fanbase a sense of aggressively going about their business but the White Sox way tends to follow a passive approach. MLB Network analyst, Jon Morosi, is bullish on the White Sox as he recently picked the Sox to win the AL Central. Morosi stressed the importance of health and said players just need to have solid years, not necessarily career years. It's a big 'IF' but what if Sox sluggers Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert were healthy for a majority of the year and put up massive numbers? The Sox would be a very dangerous team. Right field will be a position that is scrutinized this Spring Training. New manager, Pedro Grifol, said that Oscar Colas will have every opportunity to prove himself but what are the backup plans?

Cease has been working on a changeup and building up arm strength to get his body ready for the long haul. Cease decided to skip the World Baseball Classic and put all his focus on the 2023 campaign. Recent AL Cy Young award winners have found it difficult to repeat their award winning performance the following year. Can Cease, who was so close to capturing the prize in 2022, avoid a letdown and be one of the elite pitchers in the American League once again?

Mailbag Wednesday: Chicago White Sox questions focusing on Jake Marisnick, Mike Clevinger and Jerry Reinsdorf Jan 18, 2023

Show notes

Mailbag Wednesday: Chicago White Sox questions focusing on Jake Marisnick, Mike Clevinger and Jerry Reinsdorf. Lots of great fan-centric questions to answer that pertain to an array of Sox topics. The White Sox recently acquired Jake Marisnick and he might very well be destined for AAA Charlotte however can he be the outfield depth that the Sox are looking for this season? Lucas Giolito is essentially pitching for a contract and the White Sox might not be the team that gives it to him but Mike Clevinger is trying to restart his career. Who has more to prove in 2023? Jerry Reinsdorf is well know for his loyalty and has kept Kenny Williams, along with Rick Hahn, on the payroll for far too long. Will Reinsdorf ever consider bringing in leadership from organizations that have demonstrated consistent success? And, with the White Sox still looking to make a trade this off-season, could Eloy Jimenez be someone that gets dealt?

The Chicago White Sox avoided arbitration with Lucas Giolito and four other pitchers Jan 17, 2023

Show notes

The Chicago White Sox avoided arbitration with Lucas Giolito and four other pitchers. 2022 Cy Young runner up, Dylan Cease as well as Michael Kopech, Reynaldo Lopez and Jose Ruiz also avoided the arbitration process by coming to an agreement on contracts with the Sox. Last year at this time, the White Sox and Giolito could not initially come to terms. Giolito described the process last year as frustrating and disheartening. This is Giolito's walk year and the drama has been avoided for now. The international signing period began recently and the White Sox were active once again. Reports indicate that the Sox agreed to terms with pitcher Luis Reyes. He is ranked 41 on MLB list of Top 50 international prospects. The Sox also signed shortstop Juan Uribe, Jr. He is the son of 2005 White Sox legend, Juan Uribe. Also, the North Siders enjoyed their fan convention this past weekend... what happened to Sox Fest? White Sox fans were shut out for the third year in a row and the reasons are really no mystery.

Finding consistent help from homegrown pitching has been a problem for the Chicago White Sox Jan 12, 2023

Show notes

Finding consistent help from homegrown pitching has been a problem for the Chicago White Sox. The Sox have one of the worst farm systems in all of baseball. There are only two Sox prospects on the Top 100 MLB prospect list and neither of them are pitchers. For years, the Sox have used trades to bolster their starting pitching. Draft picks like Carlos Rodon and Chris Sale have been developed and have been sent on their way. Can the White Sox look to their dismal farm system and see a future front-line starter? Someone that can stick around and produce? There are some promising options like Norge Vera, Jared Kelley and Noah Schultz but the Sox fans might have to be patient. Long gone are the days when the White Sox had one of the best farm systems in all of baseball. If the Sox try to improve via the trade, will they cast away rising stars or pick from their 40 man roster?

Fan-centric questions regarding the current state of the Chicago White Sox and their past Jan 11, 2023

Show notes

Fan-centric questions regarding the current state of the Chicago White Sox and their past. Hey, it's Mailbag Wednesday on the Locked on White Sox podcast. Why did the Chicago White Sox pass on starting pitcher Johnny Cueto and sign Mike Clevinger? Should the Sox bring back Josh Harrison to be a veteran presence at second base or should they sign Tommy La Stella instead? Colorado Rockies great, Todd Helton, has been getting a lot of attention as the Hall of Fame voting continues. Why does Paul Konerko get passed over? Could Konerko ever find his way into the Hall of Fame? If broadcasters Steve Stone and Jason Benetti do not come back for the 2023 season, who could replace them in the TV booth? Also, the 17 year anniversary of the Sox signing free agent AJ Pierzynski and a look back at some ugly White Sox uniforms. Plus, Carlos Correa is back in the AL Central. What does this mean for the White Sox?

Could the Chicago White Sox improve via the trade by dealing lefty reliever Garrett Crochet? Jan 10, 2023

Show notes

Could the Chicago White Sox improve via the trade by dealing lefty reliever Garrett Crochet? There have been some rumors lately focusing on White Sox reliever Garrett Crochet and infielder Gleyber Torres of the New York Yankees. Would the Sox seriously consider trading away one of their very few left handed pitchers? Crochet missed all of 2022 recovering from Tommy John surgery but was an exciting option out of the pen when he was fast tracked to the big leagues in the summer of 2020. The Sox need to solidify their second base situation and looking at Torres over even Eduardo Escobar from the New York Mets makes sense. We learn more about Lucas Giolito's efforts to return to accustomed levels this season as he focuses on 2023 and only 2023. Sox fans everywhere learned recently of the health status of Liam Hendriks. Hendriks has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and will begin treatment this week. Thoughts and prayers for Liam and his family as he begins his battle.

The Chicago White Sox made the Andrew Benintendi signing official as they now have a left fielder to play left field Jan 05, 2023

Show notes

The Chicago White Sox made the Andrew Benintendi signing official as they now have a left fielder to play left field. It seems ridiculous to point out that the White Sox have signed a natural outfielder to play in left field but the Sox have made some odd decisions over the last several seasons. Benintendi automatically upgrades the defense and gives the Sox a much needed left-handed punch. Andrew Benintendi talked at the press conference about his excitement to join the already potent Sox lineup. He also said that the White Sox actively pursued him since the very beginning of the off-season. General manager Rick Hahn discussed why Benintendi is a perfect fit and why he has been after Benintendi's services for seven plus years. New Sox manager, Pedro Grifol, has prior experience with Benintendi from the Kansas City Royals days and believes Benintendi will be an excellent addition to the ballclub.
