Show notes

The frustrations continue as the White Sox were swept in Minnesota. The Sox are 19 games under .500. Bad luck. Bad managing. Bad execution. Bad baseball. The White Sox are now 12 games out of the AL Central and should be very active at the trade deadline. Lance Lynn gave up a bunch of home runs in the series opener and the offense could not climb back. Missed opportunities on Saturday and Sunday washed away pretty solid outings from Dylan Cease and Lucas Giolito. Manger Pedro Grifol seems to have no answers but recognizes that the same stuff continues to happen. The White Sox are not progressing in any way, they are completely regressing. They have an off day on Monday, then host the crosstown rivals, the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday.

The Chicago White Sox beat the New York Mets to avoid the sweep. The Minnesota Twins are up next. Jul 21, 2023

Show notes

The Chicago White Sox beat the New York Mets to avoid the sweep. The Minnesota Twins are up next. The final score in the series finale with the Mets was 6-2. The Sox are now 16 games under .500 and 9 games back in the division. Sox starter, Michael Kopech, bounced back from a nightmare of an outing last week in Atlanta and went 5+ innings. Kopech still struggled with his command but he kept his composure and did not let the walks hurt him. White Sox scored their six runs without hitting a home run. Elvis Andrus had a triple, Eloy Jimenez had a two hit game in his return and Tim Anderson tacked on a couple more hits. The Sox travel to Minnesota to take on the first place Twins. Lance Lynn heads to the mound for the Sox in the series opener.

Vintage Justin Verlander stopped the Chicago White Sox as they lost to the Mets, 5-1 Jul 20, 2023

Show notes

Vintage Justin Verlander stopped the Chicago White Sox as they lost to the Mets, 5-1. The White Sox have seen a lot of Verlander over the years and on Wednesday they had few answers for him. Luis Robert Jr. was the lone spark, hitting a solo HR late in the game. Sox had three hits and were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position. Verlander went eight innings and was pretty dominant. Touki Toussaint was the starter for the Sox. He was not sharp but ate a lot of innings and perhaps made a case for why he should continue to get a look from the organization. The White Sox will look to avoid the sweep on Thursday afternoon by sending Michael Kopech to the hill to face a familiar face in Jose Quintana.

The offense could not overcome the pitching problems and the White Sox lost to the Mets, 11-10 Jul 19, 2023

Show notes

The offense could not overcome the pitching problems and the White Sox lost to the Mets, 11-10. Lucas Giolito gave up three homeruns and walked five as he could not get out of the fourth inning. It was one of the worst starts of his season and it came at a very bad time. Sox relievers, Bryan Shaw and Tanner Banks, did not help matters as they gave up three runs collectively. Sox offense battled and almost completed the comeback. Sox scored five runs in the seventh inning and had multiple opportunities throughout the game to score additional runs, including in the ninth inning. Yasmani Grandal and Jake Burger each had three runs batted in. Tim Anderson had a three hit night. White Sox send Touki Toussaint to the mound on Wednesday to face Justin Verlander.

Lucas Giolito takes the mound for perhaps one of the last times in a Chicago White Sox uniform Jul 18, 2023

Show notes

Lucas Giolito takes the mound against the Mets for perhaps one of the last times in a Chicago White Sox uniform. The White Sox take on the New York Mets on Tuesday and Giolito may very well be saying good bye to the Sox. There are no shortage of rumors swirling about where Giolito may land before the trade deadline. It's surreal to think about Giolito being dealt before the Sox could ever win a playoff series but that's the state of the White Sox. What's bothering Tim Anderson? He has not hit a homerun in over a year and his offensive numbers are pathetic. Maybe it's his launch angle? Also, if the Tamps Bay Rays are calling in regards to one of your players, do you take that call? Rumor has it that the Rays are interested in Sox starter Lance Lynn. 'Tis the season of rumors.

Jake Burger and Luis Robert Jr. powered the Chicago White Sox to a series win against the Atlanta Braves Jul 17, 2023

Show notes

Jake Burger and Luis Robert Jr. powered the Chicago White Sox to a series win against the Atlanta Braves. Burger hit his 20th and 21st homeruns and Luis Robert Jr. hit his 27th while also going 4-for-5 in the series finale. Sox capped off the weekend with an 8-1 win off the best team in baseball, in their building. Michael Kopech, Lance Lynn and Dylan Cease were the Sox starters in the series. Lynn was bailed out by some Sox offense and Cease delivered his typical five innings but it was Kopech's 2/3 of an inning in Game 1 that was frustrating. Kopech had zero control and after loading the bases, he gave up a grand slam to Matt Olson. The lone bright spot in that game was Touki Toussaint's five plus relief effort. After a maddening performance that produced a Grifol earful, the Sox bounced back and cooled off a hot Braves team. Is it too little and too late for the Sox or can this season be salvaged?

Michael Kopech is on the mound and Lance Lynn then Dylan Cease are slated for the following games. Lucas Giolito, arguably the best starting pitcher for the Sox, as been left off the weekend rotation. It's an odd move but the rumors of his eventual departure are nonstop. Luis Robert Jr. did not participate in the All-Star Game due to tightness in his calf & he is day-to-day Jul 12, 2023

Show notes

Luis Robert Jr. did not participate in the All-Star Game due to tightness in his calf & he is day-to-day. The injury happened in the first round of Monday's homerun derby but Robert said that it did not affect his performance. From all reports, it sounds like a mild issue but just a shame to not be able to see him participate in the All-Star game. Hopefully Robert can bounce back and rejoin the team in Atlanta on Friday. The White Sox have had a decent showing in terms of All-Star representation over the years but have not seen a lot of players start the game in a Sox uniform. More trade deadline rumors as the Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers could be landing spots for Sox starter Lucas Giolito.

The Chicago White Sox took a shortstop with their first pick and Luis Robert Jr. had an early exit in the derby Jul 11, 2023

Show notes

The Chicago White Sox took a shortstop with their first pick and Luis Robert Jr. had an early exit in the derby. The Sox chose Jacob Gonzalez from Ole Miss with the 15th pick. Through the first two rounds of the MLB draft, the White Sox took six pitchers, a pair of outfielders and a catcher. The draft ends on Tuesday. Sox slugger, Luis Robert Jr., flexed the power and put on a show in the first round of the homerun derby in Seattle but ran out of gas in the semi-final. Robert had some tape measure shots and did a nice job showcasing himself. Could the White Sox start making trades this week? What four players are rumored to be untouchable?
