The Chicago White Sox must AVOID another 100-loss season to EARN Major League Credibility Mar 10, 2026

Show notes

The Chicago White Sox face a talent drought as no players crack any Top 100 lists—can ending 100-loss seasons finally shift their reputation? Host Todd Welter examines why even rising young players like Colson Montgomery, Shane Smith, and Kyle Teel haven't earned national recognition, questioning if the team can escape these triple-digit losing seasons, and whether these guys' reputations can rise.

The discussion then shifts to how the White Sox crushed the Rockies in the Cactus League. Todd goes over that, while it does not matter, winning in blowout fashion because of the organizational depth players is hopefully a preview of players like Oliver Dunn or Lamonte Wade Jr. being able to fill in competently if there is a short-term injury that must be covered.

Todd then tackles mailbag comments, debating Luisangel Acuña's ceiling.

00:00 – No Top 100 Talent

Todd Welter discusses the absence of Chicago White Sox players in MLB’s Top 100 rankings, how team performance impacts player reputation, and the importance of moving past consecutive 100-loss seasons.

09:47 – Organizational Depth & Spring Preview

In-depth look at the White Sox’s recent Cactus League blowout win, why spring training results should be taken lightly, and a focus on the team’s improved organizational depth for the upcoming season.

19:41 – Mailbag: Acuña & Baldwin Debate

Todd Welter responds to listener mailbag questions, including criticism over his assessment of Luis Anuel Acuña, and shares his views on prospect development and expectations for complementary players.

White Sox fans do not apologize for HYPING up UCLA's Roch Cholowsky, even if it is OVERBOARD Mar 10, 2026

Show notes

Chicago White Sox fans are buzzing over the looming MLB Draft, with Roch Cholowsky emerging as the near-consensus top pick. Is the hype justified, or are expectations getting out of hand? Host Todd Welter unpacks why the White Sox’s first overall pick is generating unprecedented coverage, compares Cholowsky's candidacy to past draft scenarios, and weighs in on alternative prospects like Justin Lebron and Grady Emerson to keep the draft race honest.

Are minor league championships a sign of future big-league winners? The discussion shifts to prospect Rikuu Nishida’s role as a “winning player,” the importance of development versus results in the minors, and why simply being part of a title team doesn’t guarantee MLB success.

00:00 – Cholowsky Hype: Too Much?
Todd Welter opens by discussing excitement around having the number one pick in the MLB draft and whether fans and media are going overboard in their coverage of UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky. He encourages excitement but cautions fans to let the season play out and maintain perspective.

03:31 – Draft Philosophy & Comparison
The conversation pivots toward broader draft philosophy. Todd Welter discusses why the White Sox should prioritize hitting in the draft, compares the coverage of Cholowsky to other teams’ top picks, and reflects on what makes this year’s draft unique. He references expert opinions and historical perspectives.

16:06 – Defining Winning Players
Todd Welter uses a recent tweet about prospect Rikuu Nishida to launch into a thoughtful segment about what defines a "winning player" in baseball. He explains why minor league "winning" is less important than development, why intangibles matter, and uses examples like David Eckstein and Shohei Ohtani to discuss team vs individual success.
