Show notes

Kickoff the weekend with talk about MSU football fall camp beginning, MSU basketball talk and what other coaches are saying about Mel Tucker and the Spartans.

We start with the best quotes from Tucker and observations made by the media contingent at the first fall practice of the season.

Then…is this Tom Izzo’s last chance at national title No. 2 now that Xavier Booker and a great 2023 class is in the fold? And is there any credence to the Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn recruitment saga heading to Michigan State?

We then end talking about the Athlon piece where anonymous Big Ten coaches sounded off on other programs in the conference. What did they have to say about Michigan State?

Breaking down Payton Thorne, playing quarterback at Michigan State w/ Brian Lewerke Aug 04, 2022

Show notes

We breakdown Payton Thorne and the quarterback position ahead of the 2022 Spartan football season with former MSU great Brian Lewerke. What does he like the most about his game, and what needs to improve before Michigan State takes the field on Sept. 2?

We also pick Brian’s brain about what goes into playing quarterback at the collegiate level. What goes on during preparation and everything before the snap, and how hard is it to block out outside voices during the season?

MSU recruiting is HOT: Gehrig Normand commits to MSU basketball; Stanton Ramil, Nick Marsh pick MSU Aug 03, 2022

Show notes

WOOWEE WHAT A TIME ON THE RECRUITING TRAIL. Michigan State basketball and football each land big fish in the last few days, so we have to talk about it.

We start with basketball's star-studded 2023 class that added another big-time commit in Gehrig Normand. What does he do best, and what does this mean for MSU's roster in 2023-24?

We then switch over to the football field where Mel Tucker and Co. reeled in two big fish -- 4-star offensive tackle Stanton Ramil out of Alabama and 2024 wide receiver Nick Marsh out of River Rouge High School.

Then we end the show with bantering about Xavier Booker and the chance he decommits and the 2023 MSU football schedule.

Top MSU football storylines before fall camp; Is over 7.5 wins for the an easy bet? (w/ Graham Couch) Aug 02, 2022

Show notes

Graham Couch of the Lansing State Journal joins the show to breakdown the top storylines, position battles and more before the Spartans open up fall camp on Wednesday.

Graham and Matt also banter about NIL and the transfer portal, and how much are the Spartans effected by both on the recruiting trail?

We then end with a conversation that starts with talking about MSU's over/under of 7.5 wins and ends with Matt nervous about facing Illinois. Truly a roller coaster to end the show.

BOOM! No. 1-ranked prospect Xavier Booker commits to MSU basketball Jul 31, 2022

Show notes

BOOM! No. 1-ranked prospect Xavier Booker commits to Michigan State basketball and we break down (and celebrate) his commitment to the 2023 class. What is it that makes Booker elite, and what former Spartans could he possibly be compared to?

We also chat about what this commitment means for Tom Izzo and how impressive it was to beat out all the other schools on Booker’s final list.

And, finally, what’s next? MSU is in great position with Jeremy Fears and Xavier Booker, but what other players will they look to add to this already-stacked 2023 class.

Mel Tucker at Big Ten Media Days; Xavier Booker on MSU basketball commit watch? Jul 28, 2022

Show notes

It was Mel Tucker's day to speak with the media at Big Ten Media Days and we sound off on some of his best quotes and quips from the day. How is he feeling about the season ahead, the two running backs in Jalen Berger and Jarek Broussard and does he lose sleep at night?

Also, we try not to get too excited as things are starting to look potentially good on the Xavier Booker recruiting front. Plus, two official visitors are heading to campus this weekend in Coen Carr and Gehrig Normand.

We end with how Matt would spend $1 billion on strictly MSU football.

MSU basketball talk: Xavier Booker, Devin Royal, Moneyball ProAm, PK85 and more with Carter Elliott Jul 26, 2022

Show notes

We are joined by Carter Elliott of The Sleepers Podcast for an all-MSU basketball episode. We start with bantering about Xavier Booker, who added Michigan State to his top ten list for schools he is considering. How are we feeling about this top five recruit’s chances to be in green and white? And what about Devin Royal too?

Carter was also at the Moneyball Pro-Am recently, so we pick his brain on who has been impressing him the most and who we think will surprise people this upcoming season.

We then talk about the news of the PK85 Tournament bracket reveal and discuss what games we are looking forward to the most in another hectic non-conference Tom Izzo has created.

What's up with MSU football recruiting? And making fun of Pat Narduzzi's odd Peach Bowl comments Jul 25, 2022

Show notes

Michigan State football recruiting took another hit over the weekend as offensive tackle Payton Kirkland picks Texas. With offensive tackle targets getting taken off the board, where do things stand with that position for the 2023 class? And are fans in the right to feel a tad underwhelmed with how July has gone on the recruiting trail?

We then also take a gander at Pat Narduzzi's comments about the outcome of the Peach Bowl and how Pitt would win the Big Ten every year.

We end with mailbag questions on if recruiting reporters' predictions are ruining the fun and if we'll see four quarterbacks against Akron or not.

Is MSU football recruiting healthy for us fans? What 3 former MSU players would we put on this team? Jul 21, 2022

Show notes

A really fun show is in store today as friend of the program Austin Smith of The Only Podcast joins the show! We start with talking about Payton Kirkland's commitment date coming up this weekend and that leads into the question -- is MSU's rise in recruiting healthy for us Spartan fans, or are we losing years on the end of our lives?

Then we take on two mailbag questions, starting with picking three players from the last decade to add onto this year's Spartan football team. And then we close out the show debating which Big Ten football coaches would make the best (and worst) father-in-laws.
