"Stealing Some Wins": How FSU Can Upset LSU, Clemson in 2022, Football's Greatest Rivalry Renewed at Miami & AJ Duffy Hype Apr 20, 2022

Show notes

Florida State Football has been on the wrong side of winnable games the past few seasons. Now, is 2022 the seasons that the college football program can have some upsets of their own. Join the gang today on Locked On Seminoles, your favorite Florida State Seminoles podcast to see where the guys land on these questions.

Drake and Dave are running the show today and lead it off with which games they view on the schedule as some "stole wins". Why does Drake feel that Norvell and company can march up into Louisville and stun Heisman sleeper Malik Cunningham under the Friday Night Lights. Does Dave view Tyler Van Dyke is an actual threat to the ACC or will he suffer a sophomore slump when the Hard Rock hosts the biggest rivalry in colleges sports? Most importantly, are potentially ranked squads LSU and Clemson going to drop their first game to Florida State in so many seasons?

Next, unfortunately Dave, the conductor of today's experiment, has to take us to games that are potentially traps for Jordan Travis over the season. Does a healthy Phil Jurkovec give the fanbase pause for concern when the Boston College Eagles come to town? Even though they have lost some weapons, Dave Doreen and the NC State Wolfpack may pose a greater threat than ever with Devin Leary, Cory Durden and Cyrus Fagan returning. And lastly, out of Syracuse, Georgia Tech and Louisiana-Lafayette, is another inexcusable loss on the horizon for this Seminoles squad?

To wrap up today's show, Drake has the floor and decides to let the people know what has been troubling him. With the QB room under a microscope over the past few seasons & the lack of transfer QB coming into the fold, is there truly a scenario where AJ Duffy is starting at any point during the season, regardless of Jordan Travis' status. Is this solely based on the potential of the 4-star freshman, or is it simply a case study in what Norvell has shown in the past when managing his QB room.

As always, thanks for making Locked On Seminoles your first listen each and every day. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe and as always comment on the video below. Enjoy the show!

Can Florida State Lead the ACC in Rushing in 2022? Apr 18, 2022

Show notes

Florida State is set to have a potent rushing attack again in 2022. However, will it be enough to lead the confernce with Syracuse and Louisville returning great rushers and UNC looking to reload after leading the conference in 2021? Only time will tell but Max and Drake open the mailbag and give you their opinion on the question in a miniature Max's Math Corner.

Next, the duo pivots from the Jimmies and Joes to look at the X's and O's of Mike Norvell's offense. Will this offense need to rely on gadgets and gimmicks in 2022 or will FSU fans start to see a more fundamentally sound offense?

Finally, the guys talk defense. They realize that most of the talk in the offseason revolves around the offense despite that only being half of the equation. So, they examine how much improvement - if any - is needed from the defense and if fans should expect to see a better unit on Saturdays in the fall.

Can Malik McClain Lead FSU's Receiver Corps? What Does Mike Norvell Need from the Transfer Portal? Apr 14, 2022

Show notes

Florida State has a big problem. Despite an influx of talent into the wide receiver room, no one has cemented themselves in the WR 1 position. FSU needs Malik McClain or Johnny Wilson to fill the need or the coaching staff may have to continue scouring the transfer portal.

Max and Dave kick off your Wednesday morning by discussing the top 3 in their respective wide receiver power rankings following the conclusion of spring practice and the Garnet & Gold Game. Max favors the smaller receivers while Dave explains why he hasn't lost confidence in the roster's current big men.

After ranking the wide recievers on the roster, the guys discuss which positions they think Mike Norvell and Co need to supplement using the transfer portal. Do they need another pass catcher or should they prioritize the defensive side of the ball? Is finding a reliable backup QB even a possibility at this point and will AJ Duffy be ready for action in the fall if needed?

Finally, the hosts give their thoughts on the coaching staff as things stand. Things could change but Max explains why he is laying off Ron Dugans for a bit but needs to see more from Tight Ends Coach Chris Thompsen's.

FSU Football Needs to Run More Plays; Garnet & Gold Spring Game Recap; Running Back Power Rankings Apr 13, 2022

Show notes

FSU needs to run more plays if they are going to succeed on offense during the 2022 football season. Florida State Football was 82nd in the nation last year in plays per game. This is clearly a factor in their offensive woes given that applying Jordan Travis averages to the increased number of plays they would have ran to rank in the top 25 in PPG would have resulted in 400 additional passing yards and approximately 600 rushing yards. Max and Drake enter "Max's Math Corner" and breakdown why it is imperative that Mike Norvell finds a way to produce more offensive snaps next season.

Next, the guys continue their discussion of Florida State's Garnet and Gold Spring Game. They express satisfaction with the running back room and cautious optimism about the wide receivers.

Finally, they unveil their post-spring running back rankings. Their approach to these rankings differ in that Drake basis rankings on potential production in 2022 while Max uses an "in-the-moment" philosophy. Who do you have as your top running back exiting spring practice?

"Reasons For Optimism": Spring Game Discussions, Can Jordan Travis Capitalize on his new Weapons & Amarius Mims Watch Apr 12, 2022

Show notes

With Florid State's Spring Game finally drawn to a close, the fellas are here to tell you what they think of the state of the football program on today's edition of your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports talk show, Locked On Seminoles. Today, the fellas with the vantage point of watching from afar and in person give out their likes and dislikes from the game that happened this past weekend.

First, the fellas discuss how they felt regarding the offensive line. With 3 players out in Thomas Shrader, Lloyd Willis & Darius Washington, the line seemed to still perform admirably. Speaking of the trenches, it seems that the defensive front will once again be a point of strength for this Seminoles football team. With Fabien Lovett and Robert Cooper again up the middle proving to be a gruesome twosome to reckon with but also the ends are showcasing their talents as well. Do the boys feel this line can compete with anyone in the ACC for top D-Line and will the O-line finally become a respectable unit?

Next, Drake asks his compadres a very important question. While he wasn't on the previous show, should the fanbase take Jordan Travis' somewhat pedestrian performance to heart. Has he taken a step forward? Is he still the same? Is the QB room overall an issue that still leaves the fanbase wanting for more? Judging from the interaction between the fellas and the live chat, this is a conversation you wont want to miss.

Lastly, the guys briefly touch on the ever important topic that is the life blood of you favorite college football program: recruiting. Case in point, Class of 2021 5-star offensive tackle Amarius Mims, has entered the portal leaving behind the 2021 National Champion UGA Bulldogs. We breakdown not only the importance of landing this game-changing player, but also how important this moment in the new era of college football will be in showcasing FSU's standing in a post-NIL world. Also, this recruitment will also highlight another topic: how is Mike Norvell looked at FSU in comparison to rival Miami now being lead by former Hurricane Mario Cristobal.

As always, thank you guys so much for making Locked ON Seminoles your first listen each and every single day and thank you all so much for your love and support!

Is it Fair to Judge Jordan Travis in a Spring Game? What should Florida State Fans Expect for 2022? Does NIL Really Change College Football? Apr 08, 2022

Show notes

FSU should be an improved football team under Mike Norvell in 2022 but what should fans set as their expectations? Max and Dave breakdown what fans seem to be thinking while cautioning against letting hopes creep into expectations. They discuss how it is possible to both want more for their beloved Seminoles and be happy that the team is heading in the right direction. They also talk about what they will be watching for in the Spring Game. Is it fair to judge Jordan Travis when he isn't allowed to run? Will Tate Rodemaker shine? Can the O-Line block well enough to limit 3rd and long situations?

Finally, Max and Dave discuss the effects NIL rules may have on the sport of college football. Will it drastically alter the sport or is it simply going to create new oligarchs in an already top-heavy sport?

Once again, thank you all so much for the love and support and for making Locked on Seminoles your first listen each and every single day! Tune in and hope you enjoy!

"Punters Are People Too": FSU Trenches Stacked with Malcom Ray & Jarret Jackson, State of the Offense & Green Jacket Hopes Apr 07, 2022

Show notes

Spring Season is in full effect and the fellas today discuss who they think the FSU fanbase needs to show a little bit more love on this edition of your favorite Florida State Seminoles daily sports talk show. First, right off the cuff, the triumvirate look towards both sides of the ball on who they think is not talked about enough.

Kicking things off with the defensive side of the ball, Dave as always looks towards the trenches and highlights a former under the radar 3-star defensive tackle Malcolm Ray and what he thinks he can bring for the new season. Drake follows up with the south Florida defensive back Kevin Knowles who burst onto the scene last year but has been overshadowed by Omarion "Duke" Cooper. Lastly, Max, in typical max fashion, bens the rules a bit and picks two players in both Omarion Cooper and one Jarett Jackson to round out these silent assassins' of the defensive unit.

Next, the fellas look towards the offensive side of thing which actually opens up how the fellas truly feel about this side of the ball. Drake and Dave show some love to the skill positions in Cam McDonald and CJ Campbell which then has the boys ask themselves: how do they really feel about the offense heading into year 3 under Mike Norvell? Is the Offensive Line really improved or simply is it the face guys that actually are improved and the depth is lacking.

Lastly, in a twist, Golf aficionado Drake closes us out with a Masters centered segment as Seminole alums Brooks Koepka and Daniel Berger try their best to don the green jacket by Sunday, and we learn what the golf pros Dave and Max would serve if they were the ones serving dinner at the Master's Champions dinner. Don't worry, neither of their choices are as bad as whatever Bubba Watson tried but it doesn't come near Hideki Matsuyama's selections this year.

Once again, thank you all so much for the love and support and for making Locked on Seminoles your first listen each and every single day! Tune in and hope you enjoy!

"Bless Em": Does FSU have a proven WR1 in Malik McClain, Bless Harris a starter & Trey Benson's Spring Game Apr 06, 2022

Show notes

Spring has sprung and Florida State's Spring game is coming up this Saturday and the fellas here at Locked on Seminoles are here to have you ready with an in-depth look at the Offensive depth chart (see what we did there). Today, on your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast, Max and Drake take a step back and give who they believe will be the starters for the Spring Game (if they actually faced off against an opponent).

First, the duo starts off with the wide receivers. The position group with the most turnover this past off-season, albeit much needed, who will we be seeing this weekend lining up first to receive passes from the Seminoles' signal callers. Will Malik McClain take that next step to be the potential Sunday player we know he can be? Can the old guard of Keyshawn Helton and/or Pokie Wilson prove to be a solid safety valve for the offense? Should we be worried about the tight end room as while the room has bodies, it may leave a lot to be desired.

Next the guys talk about the hog mollies on the offensive line in what may be the first o-line in years that FSU fans don't have to worry about being dead last in the country. Can this group as a whole be average? IS Kayden Lyle's slow start to the spring a cause for concern? Who starts at the tackle spot? Is having Bless Harris as a starter asking a lot out of the former Lamar transfer? Do we really have 6-7 lineman we can feel good about heading into summer?

Last, the boys talk about the stable of backs Norvell has amassed and the danger they can pose for opposing defenses. Question is, who will be the leader among them? Has Treshaun Ward locked down that RB1 spot? Is Trey Benson really that so far ahead of what was expected of him when he transferred form Oregon? Did Coach Mike Norvell catch Lightning in a bottle again with PWO CJ Campbell, the pride of Panama City Beach, Florida?

As always, thanks for making Locked On Seminoles your first listen each and every single day and we hope you enjoy!

Is it fair to compare Mike Norvell to Jimbo Fisher? Mycah Pittman added to FSU WR power rankings Apr 04, 2022

Show notes

Max revisits his wide receiver power rankings following recent practice reports and the news that Winston Wright Jr will miss a significant amount of time by adding Mycah Pittman and removing his well intentioned, but horrible pick of Corey Wren. He also discusses what impact the loss of Wright might have on the season.

Next, Max takes questions about the recruiting ability of Florida State coaching staffs past and present. Were Jimbo's classes perennially overrated? Does including transfers make Mike Norvell's classes close to Jimbo Fisher's in quality? Is this even a fair comparison given the circumstances under which they each took control of the program?

Finally, Max gives his opinion on the nuances of the correlation between winning and getting better recruits. Max mulls whether or not this coaching staff has the ability to get a top class even if they are winning games.

Oh, and there's a bonus take on the LSU game for your listening pleasure
