The future path of Nebraska football may rest with one decision made about the CFP Jun 12, 2025

Show notes

Just one year into an expanded Big Ten and a new College Football Playoff structure, change is afoot for the sport’s postseason. The 2025 season will give us one more year with a 12-team bracket. Then it’s set to expand to 16. But how will it look? For now, the Big Ten and SEC, while working toward the same goal of college sports domination, are standing on opposite sidelines, backing different systems.

Connor and Mitch look at all of the possibilities in this episode. And the question that weighs most heavily on our minds: Which proposed format best suits Nebraska? Also, there’s a new governing body for major college football. What is the College Sports Commission? Why is a former salary cap enforcer from MLB in charge of it? And what’s more effective about this organization than the largely ineffective NCAA?

And in closing today, a group of women filed an appeal in response to the House Settlement ruling. They say it violates Title IX. And they are correct. So what happens next?

Nebraska football recruiting: Playing catch-up on the 2026 class in a vital month of June Jun 10, 2025

Show notes

We’re joined on this Tuesday Husker247 writer Mike Schaefer, who brings his vast knowledge to the podcast to share thoughts with Connor and Mitch on Nebraska’s recruiting efforts as this vital month of June continues in Lincoln. Schaefer dishes on Trae Taylor, the 2027 QB who took up residence for a week in Lincoln around a series of big events on campus. We talk, of course, about Dylan Raiola. And about his brother, 2026 QB commit Dayton Raiola.

What to make of Nebraska’s efforts near home in recruiting as yet another Omaha prospect, Millard South tight end Isaac Jensen, commits to a school – Missouri, in this case – other than the Huskers? Has Matt Rhule shifted philosophically in his views on the importance of recruiting the Huskers’ home state?

And we finish with a conversation about the changing methods of roster construction. With a 105-player scholarship limit to be enforced – well, eventually – how is Nebraska adjusting? Join us.

Nebraska football and Matt Rhule make a splash to open a HUGE month for the Huskers Jun 09, 2025

Show notes

We’re back! Connor and Mitch return on this Monday to discuss a dramatic end to last week in Nebraska sports and college athletics in general. The Huskers held a massive recruiting event at Memorial Stadium on Friday. It impressed everyone in attendance, a group that included some heavy hitters. How does Nebraska take this to the next level?

Also, one of the most important events in the history of collegiate sports occurred late on Friday. The House Settlement received final approval. Why the late-night news dump? More important, what does it mean right now for Nebraska football? We offer our thoughts on how the roster might look for the Huskers in August and on the future of NIL.

Finally, the settlement has implications on all college sports, including baseball. Nebraska’s season came to a whimpering finish last week. And in the wake of it, Will Bolt lost three key pieces of his batting lineup to the transfer portal. What’s next for that program – and others on campus caught up in the madness of this landscape? Join us.

Nebraska football mailbag: We’re overreacting to kickoff times, the punting transition… and pizza May 30, 2025

Show notes

This Friday mailbag starts with a conversation about kickoff times. Why do fans get so emotional about this topic? It’s a widespread thing in college football, but fans of the Huskers hold their own in overreacting to an 11 a.m. kickoff. Or a night game. Or whatever the networks that are paying tens of millions of dollars annually to Big Ten programs choose to do with their programming.

Connor and Mitch react to the reactions that came in the wake of many TV announcements Thursday. Also, what’s up with the letters in the newly painted end zones at Memorial Stadium? What kind of adjustment must the Huskers make in a short time to get their punting situation in order as Archie Wilson gets to town.

We’ve got comments about pizza. And we finish with some baseball talk as Will Bolt’s resilient group prepares to get started in NCAA-regional play on Friday against Oklahoma. Join us.

BREAKING: Nebraska football kickoff times offer HUGE opportunity for Matt Rhule, Dylan Raiola May 29, 2025

Show notes

We’ve arrived at another landmark on the college football offseason highway. Kickoff times for weeks zero through 3 are here, along with Fox’s lineup of Friday night games. For Nebraska, coach Matt Rhule and QB Dylan Raiola, it means what? Opportunity. The Huskers are set to play at Minnesota on Friday night in Week 7. It brings another chance to play in front of a national audience and promote the Nebraka brand.

The Huskers will have a short week before going to Minnesota. Is that a concern? Their annual game against Iowa is returning to the 11 a.m. CT time slot. Connor and Mitch share their opinions on Black Friday. And what about the Michigan visit to Memorial Stadium in Week 4? Why does it all matter in the context of the Huskers’ season? We break it down.

Also, a preview of the pitching matchup in the Nebraska-Oklahoma NCAA-regional opener set for Friday in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Sooners are taking a gamble. Is it a good one? Join us on this Thursday.

Has Nebraska football found the final key piece for its 2025 roster? May 28, 2025

Show notes

The countdown to June 2 is on. The Nebraska football team starts its summer program on Monday. And it’s still without one key piece to the puzzle – a punter. But do not fear. He’s on the way. According to a HuskerOnline report from Tuesday, Nebraska is bringing Australian Archie Wilson to Lincoln this weekend. The rugby-style transformation is almost complete.

Connor and Mitch explore this move. Can Wilson do for Nebraska what his countrymate, Tory Taylor, did for Iowa a few years ago? Yes, the bar has been set high. Also, we’re examining the comments made Tuesday night on the Huskers Radio Network by athletic director Troy Dannen. He discussed important topics such as the color of the end zones at Memorial Stadium and the types of food that were never going to be removed from the menu at Nebraska home games.

Finally, what’s up with the House Settlement? Why haven’t we heard anything for the past two weeks? And what kind of headaches are the SEC and Big Ten creating during this waiting period? Join us on this Wednesday.

Nebraska football: Dylan Raiola takes the Huskers’ show on the road May 27, 2025

Show notes

Before the Nebraska football team reports back to Lincoln over the weekend ahead, we’ve reached a moment in the football offseason that’s fairly unique to the Huskers. Quarterback Dylan Raiola is set to take a group of his wide receivers and tight ends to Texas this week for some training and bonding.

Connor and Mitch tell you what we know about this excursion – who’s involved and what it means to Nebraska’s offensive dynamic. How is it different than a year ago, when Raiola, as a true freshman, did something similar with veteran players?

We’re also talking about Nebraska baseball, which was assigned to the Chapel Hill regional this week in the NCAA postseason. The Huskers will face Oklahoma on Friday. The Sooners have an ace up their collective sleeve, as do the Tar Heels. So the road is long for Nebraska to produce a winning weekend in ACC country. Is Will Bolt’s team playing with house money? We discuss. Join us on this Tuesday.
