*Joshua Báez made Major League Baseball history, while the baseball world mourns the loss of a man whose name changed pitching forever.**
On this episode of Back to the Bullpen, Htown Wheelhouse and former MLB pitcher Mike Stanton break down the incredible MLB debut of St. Louis Cardinals prospect Joshua Báez, who became the first player in MLB history to hit three home runs in his first major-league game.
Báez didn't waste any time announcing his arrival against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The 23-year-old homered on the first MLB pitch he ever saw, launching a 449-foot blast, then homered in each of his next two at-bats as the Cardinals defeated the Cubs 8-4.
But there's an emotional story behind the historic performance. Báez reached the majors after promising his late father, Jose Manuel "El Bronco" Báez, that he would make it. After the game, Báez shared the remarkable story of a bee that followed him throughout the afternoon — something he came to view as his father's presence with him during the biggest day of his baseball life.
