Giants and Rams Memorable Moments -09/30/2020 Sep 30, 2020
    Show notes

For those not aware, I have a new book out called The Big 50: New York Giants: The Men and Moments that Made the New York Giants.

When I was researching that book, I had the herculean task of combing through over 90 years of Giants history and narrowing thousands of men and events down to 50 of the most significant ones in team history.

Unfortunately, no moments involving the Rams made the cut (oops! I should have said "spoiler alert" there), but that doesn't mean that there haven't been some memorable moments between these two clubs, who have met 44 times in the regular-season.

So on today's LockedOn Giants podcast, I have selected three games, one of which many of you will probably remember and two which date back to the 1980s (including this ugly moment that left me stewing for weeks after).

What other games made the cut? Well, have a listen and find out.

    What's Wrong with the Giants? - 09/29/2020 Sep 29, 2020
    Show notes

What's wrong with the New York Giants?

I could probably write enough material to fill up a book, but with that said, I think a lot that's wrong with his team is correctable.

So I reached out to Coach Gene Clemons to talk a little shop about what's wrong with the Giants and things the coaching staff can do to address some of the issues.

We then turn our attention toward taking an early look at the Los Angeles Rams, who are up next on the Giants schedule.

So pull up a chair and have a listen, as Coach Gene had some pretty interesting things to say about this team.

    Friday Fan Mailbag - 09/25/2020 Sep 25, 2020
    Show notes

    Are we there yet?

If you've ever had a child or heck, maybe when you were a child yourself, I'm sure that at some point during a long car ride, those four little words --Are we there yet?--popped up once or twice.

Well, that question is the theme of this week's listener mailbag, with several questions coming in not even moments before the Week 2 gamebook was finalized from last week's Giants loss to the Bears.

Giants fans are growing impatient with the team's slow starts and seemingly perpetual hovering in the same vicious cycle. (Though trust me, folks, this latest stretch of bad Giants football still doesn't rival the Wilderness of the mid-1960s through the 1970s.)

Fans are looking for improvement--any sign of progress--that this team is headed in the right direction.

But just as was the case on that long car ride where, as you passed certain milestones, you knew you were getting closer to the final destination, the Giants are not quite yet driving in the speed lane, and they haven't quite passed enough milestones for anyone to say that they're "almost" there or "there."

It's easy to lose sight of where the team is in the wins and losses, but the first step for this team to show that it's almost there is to show improvement each week. And if you look closely, you will see signs of that from the second half of last week's game.

I get it; it's not enough progress, and it's coming at a snail's pace.

I know it sounds hard, and I don't mean to sound preachy, but sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy the ride and trust, at least, in this case, that head coach Joe Judge, the driver of this rather lengthy Giants journey to respectability, knows where he's going and how to get there.

    Giants-49ers Greatest Hits - 09/23/2020 Sep 24, 2020
    Show notes

I have a confession to make.

I'm not expecting much from Sunday's Week 3 matchup between the Giants and 49ers at MetLife Stadium due to the injuries. I mean, injuries take the life out of a matchup for me because I like to see the teams go at full strength.

So in coming up for a topic for today's podcast, I began feeling a bit nostalgic and decided to go back in time to my three favorite Giants-49ers games in the series history. The three I ended up choosing are all postseason affairs.

You'll have to tune in to see which ones I picked, but I can tell you that two of the games I spoke about made the cut in my book, The Big 50: The Men and Moments that Made the New York Giants.

And I spill some of the tea on some behind-the-scenes stuff on two of those games that you may or may not know about, so give a listen (oh and if you are a fan of Giants history or want to learn more about it because maybe you weren't around 30-40 years ago, pick up a copy of the book wherever books are sold.

    Giants Potpourri - 09/22/2020 Sep 23, 2020
    Show notes

In my house, we have a twice-weekly tradition that my husband calls "clean out the fridge night."

You can probably imagine what that entails--we feast on leftovers from the last few days because I hate wasting food, and I refuse to make anything new until the old stuff has been consumed.

Anyway, for today's podcast, I decided to deploy a similar concept. You'll get a little serving of everything--stats, roster transactions and thoughts, an audio clip from Tuesday's media session with the coaching staff, and more.

So take a peek inside. I promise there's nothing among the contents of this particular podcast you'll find to be spoiled.

Eli Manning on What the Giants Miss now that Saquon Barkley is Out for the Season -09/21/2020 Sep 21, 2020
    Show notes

    "Monday, Monday (bah-da bah-da-da-da)

"So good to me (bah-da bah-da-da-da)

"Monday mornin', it was all I hoped it would be ..."

Nah, I don't think so. This particular Monday is just awful if you're a member of Giants county.

Forget about the fact the team started 0-2 for the fourth straight season and the seventh time in the last eight years. That's bad enough.

Even worse is the fact that running back Saquon Barkley suffered a season-ending torn ACL, and receiver Sterling Shepard looks like he's going to miss a few weeks with a turf toe. That's hardly good news for the Giants or their fan base.

While both are significant losses, Barkley will probably be the most challenging to replace in the Giants offense.

Let's hear what former Giants quarterback Eli Manning had to say about Barkley's loss and what that might mean for the Giants offense as led by a second-year quarterback in Daniel Jones.
