Show notes

The BYU Cougars roar to an 11-1 regular season for the first time since 2001 after dismantling UCF 41-21. Led by quarterback Bar Bachmeier’s ultra-efficient passing—21-of-25, 289 yards, 1 touchdown—and LJ Martin’s relentless ground attack, BYU’s offense remains a force. With a Big 12 Championship rematch against Texas Tech looming, all eyes are on Cougar Nation: Can BYU adjust its offensive strategy to counter Texas Tech’s elite pass rush and secondary? Will Chase Roberts return at receiver, and can the interior defensive line—potentially bolstered by Justin Kirkland—make the crucial difference?

Jake Hatch breaks down BYU’s winning formula, the resilient culture instilled by Kalani Sitake, and the prospect of clinching a spot in the College Football Playoff. This episode focuses on game-changing play-calling, the Cougars’ ability to overcome double-digit deficits in Big 12 play, and why LJ Martin deserves All-Big 12 recognition. Key insights include analysis of BYU’s offensive line improvement, defensive adjustments, and special teams impact, along with playoff projections and bowl game implications—could the Cougars land in the Alamo Bowl or Pop-Tarts Bowl if the committee snubs them?

Discussion highlights BYU’s must-watch rematch with Texas Tech—ranked #5 nationally—and the potential chaos BYU could cause to the postseason: Will the playoff committee make space for a Cougars team with a championship and one of the nation’s best records? Jake Hatch examines the business side of college football, the influence of Steve Sarkisian and Brett Yormark, and the reality that BYU’s destiny hinges on one more win in Arlington. Enjoy exclusive insights on player health, postseason strategies, and playoff format expansion debates.

This episode is an essential guide for fans chasing BYU football news, College Football Playoff analysis, Big 12 championship updates, and bowl game forecasts. Don’t miss this comprehensive breakdown of BYU’s journey to college football’s biggest stage.

DO-OR-DIE: Will BYU & Bear Bachmeier MAINTAIN Playoff Pursuit or Will UCF Knights Spoil CFP Dreams? | Locked On UCF Crossover Nov 27, 2025

Show notes

BYU’s College Football Playoff hopes go on the line as the Cougars host UCF in a Big 12 clash with massive postseason stakes. Bear Bachmeier’s emergence under center and L.J. Martin’s bruising 200-yard performance have powered BYU to the brink of a Big 12 title game berth, while their defense ranks among the conference’s elite in both scoring and run-stopping ability. Can BYU clinch a shot at national glory, or will Scott Frost’s UCF Knights, one win away from bowl eligibility, relish the spoiler role in Orlando?

Jake Hatch and Mike Gittens break down every angle: BYU’s motivation to erase last season’s late collapse, the focus on “going from good to great,” and the importance of taking care of business with no room for trap games. The discussion highlights how the Cougars’ ball-control offense and physical run game, combined with a defense built to make opponents one-dimensional, create a formula that’s difficult to crack. UCF’s path to an upset runs through forcing turnovers—capitalizing on any mistakes from Bachmeier—and manufacturing key stops to keep BYU’s offense off the field. With Taven Jackson under pressure to spark consistency, the Knights’ best shot rests on heart, pride, and hope that the Cougars overlook their underdog opponents.

The hosts examine Alex Grinch’s improved UCF defense, bowl implications for Scott Frost’s program, and the X-factors of altitude and cold weather in Provo. Will L.J. Martin’s high usage and Bear Bachmeier’s dual-threat ability be too much for UCF, or can the Knights find the magic needed to turn the season around? Style points, playoff committee perceptions, and program trajectory are all on the table as the Cougars look to make a statement on Senior Day.

Predictions, key matchups, and candid insights round out an episode loaded with playoff pressure and program pride. Don’t miss this complete breakdown of BYU vs. UCF, as two programs fight for their postseason futures on one of college football’s biggest stages.

Kalani Sitake’s BYU Success May SOON Equal or Surpass LaVell Edwards | Are We Witnessing History? | LDS Church Bigotry Must Stop | BYU Basketball Still Chasing Top-Tier Talent Nov 25, 2025

Show notes

Kalani Sitake’s BYU Cougars are rewriting the script in the Big 12, rapidly closing Sitake in on matching the legendary legacy of LaVell Edwards. Are the Cougars already reaching historic heights previously thought unattainable since the days of BYU’s national championship? Host Jake Hatch explores how Sitake’s leadership has delivered back-to-back double-digit win seasons, silencing doubters who questioned BYU football’s ability to compete week in and week out at the Power 4 level. Hatch outlines how Sitake not only channels the mentorship of Lavell Edwards but may also be positioning himself as the next BYU football coaching icon. Will Sitake surpass Bronco Mendenhall and possibly even Lavell Edwards in all-time Cougar greatness? The discussion includes key stats, historic milestones, and what a College Football Playoff berth could mean for BYU’s future.

The episode shifts focus to a difficult topic: the ongoing “F the Mormons” chant heard at the Cincinnati Bearcats vs. BYU game. Hatch shares a heart-wrenching letter from BYU alum Brandy Hicken, a survivor of the Grand Blanc, Michigan church shooting, who attended the Cincinnati matchup, revealing the real-life trauma and fear sparked by such bigoted fan behavior. Hatch calls for accountability from the University of Cincinnati, the Big 12 Conference, and all college sports programs, demanding action against religious discrimination and greater respect for all fanbases, especially those from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Turning to BYU basketball, Kevin Young’s recruiting machine shows no signs of slowing. The Cougars are targeting elite 2027 prospects with official offers to five-star wing Bruce Branch III and dynamic talent Demarcus Henry—whose family connections and athletic pedigree add intrigue. Hatch analyzes how BYU is now mentioned in the same breath as recruiting powerhouses like Arizona, Duke, and Kentucky, with Young’s relentless pursuit of national-level talent putting the Cougars squarely on the radar for future NBA prospects. Can BYU basketball maintain its momentum in the ultra-competitive college basketball landscape? Don’t miss this comprehensive analysis of the Cougars’ gridiron and hardwood ambitions, coaching legacies, program culture, and future recruiting victories. BYU Football’s Elite Campaign DIMINISHED as CFP Committee DOUBLE STANDARDS Hurting Kalani Sitake's Team | Cincinnati & Wisconsin Film Review as BYU Cougars Show Dominance Nov 24, 2025

Show notes

The BYU Cougars face College Football Playoff bias despite dominant 21-3 run over the past two seasons — are the committee and national pundits overlooking one of college football’s most consistent programs? Jake Hatch breaks down why BYU’s 10-1 record and wins over ranked opponents like Utah are getting ignored as Alabama and Oregon move ahead in the CFP rankings. With Heather Dinich’s ESPN insights pointing to the committee’s focus on BYU’s single loss to Texas Tech, Jake Hatch questions if the Big 12’s best are being unfairly dismissed compared to SEC elites. Can BYU football force its way into the playoff conversation, or is their path blocked by entrenched national narratives and selective scrutiny of losses?

LJ Martin’s breakout performance against Cincinnati takes center stage, as BYU’s bruising run game—anchored by an elite offensive line including standout Bruce Mitchell—demolishes the Bearcats’ top defenders. Jake Hatch details Martin’s 222-yard masterclass, dissecting how BYU’s physical identity mirrors past Alabama juggernauts, and why the Cougars’ “unsexy” style consistently delivers results. With injuries to key receivers like Chase Roberts, the spotlight shifts to Parker Kingston, Jojo Phillips, and the rest of the WR corps. Can Bear Bachmeier elevate his game in high-pressure road environments, or will processing delays hinder BYU’s offensive ceiling against tougher Big 12 rivals?

The focus also turns to BYU basketball, where the Cougars shock No. 23 Wisconsin with athleticism, defensive intensity, and clutch shooting. Richie Saunders explodes for 26 points, Rob Wright flirts with a triple-double, and AJ Dybantsa makes his presence felt even after foul trouble. Improved ball security and three-point shooting signal BYU’s transformation into a legitimate national contender under Coach Kevin Young. Is this Cougar squad finally built to excel in March Madness, or will depth and experience be tested against Miami, Dayton, and other power programs in Orlando’s ESPN Events Invitational?

Locked On Cougars delivers a no-holds-barred analysis of BYU football’s playoff snub, LJ Martin’s NFL-ready skillset, and the basketball team’s rapid rise. Tune in for detailed game reviews, Big 12 updates, CFP controversy, and recruiting buzz—plus insights into how BYU can force the College Football Playoff committee to give them the respect they’ve earned.
