LOCKED ON COLTS 8/19/19: Latest updates on Andrew Luck, intriguing roster battles, and Browns game recap Aug 19, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, a news roulette running through all the latest Colts updates with Zach Hicks of Stampede Blue.

Kicking things off with the injury news revolving around Andrew Luck and Daurice Fountain, what happens now? Luck working out in front of the cameras at LOS was a statement, which has us feeling confident on him suiting up Week 1 in Los Angeles. Fountain's season-ending ankle injury took some wind out of the sails, though. In line to make the 53-man roster, who will now take Fountain's spot? Zach Pascal appears to be in the lead, but will they even keep a WR6?

What were the biggest takeaways from the Cleveland Browns' visit for joint practices and their game on Saturday? This led to some notes on the biggest winners from preseason game No. 2 plus players like Denico Autry, Devin Funchess, and Rock Ya-Sin standing out at Grand Park. Also, what about the position battles for CB6 and TE4? Zach and I disagree on who will land the final spot backing up Jack Doyle, Eric Ebron, and Mo-Alie Cox.

Finally, what should we expect out of the Colts' defense this year? No surprise, but Matt Eberflus has been vanilla in preseason action. Don't expect that to last for long, though. With the right pieces in place along with ascending talent, Indianapolis could field their most complete defense in a decade.

Finally, we close with Zach's boldest takes for the Colts' 2019-20 campaign. The ceiling for this team is gigantic, to say the least.

LOCKED ON COLTS 8/13/19: Is it time to start worrying about Andrew Luck's injury? Aug 14, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, a breaking news recap from the latest Andrew Luck injury update. What started off as a calf strain has now been moved to the front of his ankle. After previous misdiagnoses involving Luck, is it time to start worrying? Not yet, in my opinion, but the finger should be hovering over the panic button.

Jim Irsay's comments on SiriusXM sparked a national story, but Colts GM Chris Ballard went on a conference call with local media less than 24 hours later to clarify the situation. Luck's rehab will now shift to his ankle with 3.5 weeks remaining until the Colts' season opener in Los Angeles against the Chargers. Reminder, this injury has been a daily news topic with Luck since March.

In a hypothetical scenario, how would the Colts fare if Jacoby Brissett played until their bye week? Indianapolis would face the Chargers, Titans, Falcons, Raiders, and Chiefs over that span. How many wins could Brissett guide them towards? Of course Luck might still play the opener, but, if this has any chance of long-term lingering, they should play it extremely safe and allow Luck to heal up completely. Ballard didn't rule out Luck playing if he's 85-90% healthy for the opener in LA.

Finally, stick around for the full audio from Chris Ballard's conference call on Tuesday evening.

LOCKED ON COLTS 8/9/19: Recapping Colts vs. Bills Aug 09, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, Cody Felger joins to recap the Colts' preseason opener in Buffalo. What stood out the most?

Weak performances from the offensive tackles, notably Le'Raven Clark and Jackson Barton, have us thinking about whether Colts GM Chris Ballard should make a waiver claim for the 53-man roster in a few weeks.

Solid outings from the likes of Chad Kelly, EJ Speed, Daurice Fountain, and Jonathan Williams showcased future position battles. Kelly seems poised to overtake Philip Walker for QB3, while Fountain is steadily climbing up the depth chart. Will Zach Pascal or Fountain take the WR6 spot, if Indianapolis even keeps that many wideouts?

LOCKED ON COLTS 8/8/19: Colts vs. Bills Crossover Special Aug 08, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, it's time to finally preview a Colts game! Joe Marino, host of Locked On Bills and lead writer on The Draft Network, stops by to look ahead towards tonight's action.

Who are the most intriguing players to watch on both sides? Eight names caught our eye. For the Colts, two rookies and one quarterback are who I'll be watching closest. Who are intriguing matchups from Buffalo's point of view? We also discuss the modern evolution of the tight end and linebacker spots. Led by GM Chris Ballard, Indianapolis is ahead of the curve.

Closing out the show, what are the overall season expectations for both squads? The Colts are legit Super Bowl contenders who can finish anywhere from the 1-4 seed in the AFC. Meanwhile, with Josh Allen entering his second season, Buffalo could surprise pushing for a wildcard spot.

Stay tuned for our weekly Locked On crossover specials once a week throughout the season!

LOCKED ON COLTS 8/6/19: Colts sign D'Onta Foreman, TE4 battle, and impact of Jabaal Sheard's knee surgery Aug 06, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, lots of Colts-related new nuggets have dropped over the last 48 hours.

First, Indianapolis surprised many by claiming former Texans running back -- and top 100 pick -- D'Onta Foreman. What will Foreman's role be with the Colts? Is there a chance he won't even make the 53-man roster? Certainly, because the battle between Foreman and Jonathan Williams for RB4 now is one of the top preseason storylines to follow. Also, will the former Heisman candidate buck the trend of RBs who quickly flame out after Achilles injuries?

Hale Hentges, the UDFA TE from Alabama, is catching the eyes of many through the first 11 days of training camp. Not only is Hentges showcasing his blocking ability, but displaying an ability to run the route tree while consistently beating coverage. Indianapolis has had a 20-year streak of an undrafted free agent making the roster. Will Henges make it 21? Right now, he has the slight lead over Ross Travis for the final tight end spot.

Finally, head coach Frank Reich finally let out more details on Jabaal Sheard's knee. Sheard had surgery recently on his knee, with a timetable currently unknown. What is the impact over the short and long term for the Colts' defense? Sheard's an underrated asset on run downs, so a lot of pressure now falls on the shoulders of Al-Quadin Muhammad and rookie Ben Banogu to fill his role. After the 2019-20 campaign, will this knee injury now make Sheard more expendable as a free agent?

Stick around to the end as our weekly guest schedule is now firmly locked in and announced with an A-list crew!

LOCKED ON COLTS 8/2/19: Latest takeaways from Colts training camp Aug 03, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, it's time to run through the latest notes and observations from the last two practices for the Colts up at Grand Park. Who has stood out most? Malik Hooker, Denico Autry, Marlon Mack, Devin Funchess, Rock Ya-Sin, and EJ Speed have all impressed early and often. Autry has been the most consistent defender while Ya-Sin and Speed are now taking first team reps.

Also, over 40 minutes of exclusive audio with interviews from all of the following: Matt Eberflus, Nick Siranni, Darius Leonard, Frank Reich, Malik Hooker, and Rock Ya-Sin.

LOCKED ON COLTS 7/30/19: Colts, Andrew Luck taking extreme precaution with lingering calf strain Jul 31, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, all of the takeaways from Day 5 of Colts training camp are noted along with exclusive audio from Frank Reich, Justin Houston, Adam Vinatieri, and Andrew Luck.

Luck missed his second of five practices so far with his calf issue, so is it time to worry? No, I wouldn't because Luck is finally controlling his own rehab compared to the past. He also said he could play on Sunday, if needed.

Three defensive backs had strong days: Pierre Desir, Kenny Moore, and Marvel Tell III. Tell's work as a gunner could mean Chris Milton could now be on the outside looking in for the 53-man roster, because the rookie shined on special teams.

Denico Autry continued to look dominant, including an incredible rep against Quenton Nelson where he made him look silly. Autry has been theist defender across all days of camp thus far.

Who will win the WR5 spot? Zach Pascal had a horrible day, while Chester Rogers had a big bounce-back day. Will Pascal, Rogers, or someone else take the crown for WR5 before camp concludes?

Finally, 30-plus minutes of audio featuring Reich, Houston, Vinatieri, and Luck to close out today's show.

LOCKED ON COLTS 7/28/19: Observations from Colts training camp Jul 28, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, we're back to talk about training camp! Luckily, LOC was able to get exclusive content for our listeners with multiple interviews: Jim Irsay, Nick Sirianni, Matt Eberflus, Eric Ebron, Ryan Kelly, and Bobby Okereke.

Before we dive into that content, though, who were the biggest winners from Saturday's practice? With many offensive players resting, no surprise the defense dominated. However, the Deon Cain hype train isn't stopping anytime soon. He looks the part of a receiver who should contribute immediately. One play that happened outlined why he's fully healthy now.

Also, if you haven't heard, our weekly guest lineup is unveiled! We have an A-list lineup for the loyal Colts fans out there beginning from now until the end of the season. Who's ready for some Colts football?

LOCKED ON COLTS 6/26/19: OTAs recap with George Bremer of The Herald Bulletin Jun 26, 2019
    Show notes

We're back! After a few week break, Locked On Colts is back in your airwaves 3x a week throughout the offseason and 5x per week once September arrives! On today's episode, George Bremer returns to discuss all the latest we learned for the Indianapolis Colts at OTAs.

Mo Alie-Cox was the big winner of June and is in line for a role in the offense next season. Looking ahead long-term, though, does Alie-Cox eventually take Jack Doyle's spot after 2020? It's a real possibility, if they plan on re-signing Eric Ebron.

Rock Ya-Sin and Ben Banogu had strong showings as well. How is the adjustment period going for these rookies in Matt Eberflus' defense? Also, what position will Banogu end up at?

Kenny Moore rightfully got his money early, and it sent a big message to the Colts' locker room. If you perform, GM Chris Ballard will reward you. Does the Moore extension help Indianapolis' cap sheet in a few years? Absolutely.

Finally, don't worry about Andrew Luck's calf strain, please!

LOCKED ON COLTS 6/3/19: Why the Colts are so good at drafting with Jordan Reid of The Draft Network Jun 03, 2019
    Show notes

On today's episode, Jordan Reid of The Draft Network joins to break down the 2018 and 2019 draft classes for the Indianapolis Colts. Why is Chris Ballard already so successful at this?

The foundational pieces of Quenton Nelson and Darius Leonard set the tempo. Why did both succeed as good as they did in Year 1? Also, Braden Smith was a true diamond in the rough.

Ballard is a selfless individual, a rarity in today's NFL where all the GMs want to take credit for what the scouts do. This is again a reason why Indianapolis is so attractive for front office jobs.

Finally, Reid analyzes the picks of Rock Ya-Sin, Ben Banogu, Parris Campbell and Bobby Okereke. Why were they so prioritized by the Colts, and how will they fit in? Hint: They will all be instant contributors, especially Ya-Sin and Campbell.

We end it on how Reid views the Colts compared to the rest of the AFC. He believes Indianapolis is in that elite tier alongside the defending champions, Kansas City, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles.
