The Deshaun Watson Projected Stats are Too Low! Aug 21, 2023

Show notes

Looking over projections for Deshaun Watson something seems glaring, most analysts don't feel Watson can match his numbers from his days in Houston.

Watson has more talent than ever around him here in Cleveland and to think he's not going to produce just seems wild.

As we wind down training camp we focus on players on Offense who had a solid month.

Dawand Jones has been fantastic, dubbed "starter ready" by Brian Baldinger.

Austin Watkins Jr, has truly been a outta nowhere story.

DTR has a future in this league.

Mohamoud Diabate has pleaded his case.

Deshaun Watson silences the critics as the Browns return to practice! Aug 20, 2023

Show notes

Deshaun Watson has heard and seen whats been written about his play the last few days and today took it on the Browns defense. Several touchdown passes. several down the field throws as number four gets ready for about a half of game work Saturday in Kansas City.

The Wide Receiver room os trending towards keeping seven with Jakeem Grant just coming out of nowhere to find a path to the final 53. Grant's return ability and being able to mimic the Elijah Moore special sauce stuff may be his key in. Watkins isn't going anywhere as of now.

Denzel Ward has had a solid summer and has enjoyed competing against this talented and diverse Browns wide receiver room.

Dawand Jones did a few reps at left tackle, lets see if the coaching staff continues with this or was it a one time thing.

Tie In Philly, A lot of Good but it ended with the same question Aug 18, 2023

Show notes

The Browns tied with the Eagles in their third preseason game, lots of positives were had none bigger than Austin Watkins Jr.

Watkins continues to impress and put up a monster night in only three quarters. It seems there is no way this team can release him.

Dorian Thompson_Robinson and Kellen Mond made more big plays even if their completion percentages were down.

Mohamoud Diabate was dominant and is creating another difficult decision in the linebacker room.

Yes the Browns need Cade York to be more consistent, we'll see how this plays out but there's layers to it.

Eagles Joint Practices, and TNF Pregame Show Aug 17, 2023

Show notes

Sports Illustrated's Pete Smith joins the show.

We talk the value of the joint practices in Philadelphia and even only "winning" one of the two of them, that's a pretty big positive.

Looking at who is contention for the running back three job with no new updates on Jerome Ford.

Austin Watkins is doing all he can to stake his claim.

ON defense, the Browns would like to see a defensive tackle not named Tomlinson, Harris, or Ika to show they can command playing time come the home opener.

D'anthony Bell does some nice things but between the five year age advantage and Ronnie Hickman showing solid ball skills the race for fourth safety is over, and has been.

Trying to narrow down a week one 53, and reports from joint practices in Philadelphia Aug 14, 2023

Show notes

The Browns are close to what will be the final 53 (injuries permitting) in Jeff's eyes so we try to narrow down what battles are left.

The fourth running back battle is still going on, could it be the veteran Wilkins, the undrafted free agent Hall, or an unknown.

Watkins at this point looks to be a guy to make the roster, his production can not be ignored.

If the Browns keep 10 olineman there is a battle but the first nine are set in stone.

Defensive end gets tricky because of the injuries to Alex Wright and Isiah Thomas.

Charlie Thomas could be an interesting guy, he keeps making plays and brings physicality to his game.

Safety Ronnie Hickman keeps trending upward which should have him locked in.

Browns player grades through Two games with PFF s John Kosko Aug 14, 2023

Show notes

Pff's John Kosko joins the show to talk Browns player grades through their first two preseason games.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson has been an amazing surprise to this point with his poise and overall football smarts.

Demetric Felton has probably solidified a roster spot, he can play a lot of places on offense and has return ability.

Dawand Jones has been outstanding to this point, his footowrk is starter ready, already.

The linebackers now being kept clean are showing they are better players than most think as they can just read and react.

Ronnie Hickman has shown really well thus far under the PFF lens, a good find thus far as a UDFA.

Browns lose to Commanders but some positive takeaways Aug 12, 2023

Show notes

The Cleveland Browns lost to the Washington Commanders and yes they are negatives but a lot of positives can be taken away as well.

The Deshaun Watson one drive was impressive as Watson was perfect on his passes and used his legs well. We saw Elijah Moore in this Percy Harvin type role the Browns have planned for him.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson continues to shine and has been flawless to this point through two preseason games.

On Defense rookie safety Ronnie Hickman had a solid night registering two interceptions.

The linebackers were kept clean and played well as all of Phillips, Fields, Owusu_Koramoah, and Thomas each had three solo tackles.

Sadly Jacob Phillips tore his pec and is out for the season, which could be the end of his time here for the Browns.

Cleveland travels to Philadelphia to start joint practices and then the preseason game versus the Eagles on Thursday night.

Shelby Harris Inked! Prepping for the Commanders. Aug 10, 2023

Show notes

After more than a week of waiting on word from Shelby Harris the Cleveland Browns got the answer they were waiting for. Harris signed a one year deal with the Browns.

This was the only room left on the roster that needed one more proven player on they got just that in the now nine year veteran.

The Browns will play a majority of their starters Friday night versus the Washington Commanders.

This was the correct choice as the offense is transitioning to more a throw heavy team and Watson and his weapons need to be ready for week one when they face the Bengals.

There is a ton of newness on defense and they can't afford to be slow out of the gates with a very tough first five opponents.

Browns Injury Updates and Camp Battles Aug 08, 2023

Show notes

The Browns released the information that both second year defensive ends Alex Wright and Isiah Thomas had surgery on Tuesday for their knee injuries which puts them both out until sometime in the regular season. While it should be something the team can overcome in the regular season it does make finishing out the preseason and the final 53 man roster more difficult. Look at for Lonnie Phelps Jr in the upcoming preseason games.

The Browns running back room could be in line for a veteran addition but do we maybe see that in September?

The wide receiver, safety, and linebacker groups still have some battles going on where special teams ability could make or break making the roster for several players.

Watson Lights It Up In The Rain As Injuries Mount Aug 07, 2023

Show notes

Deshaun Watson continues his solid play in training camp having a great red zone period in todays practice in wet conditions.

However another continuing theme at camp consists, injuries.

Watson hot Njoku, Peoples-Jones, Moore, and Bell for touchdowns in which the offense scored on six out of eight plays.

The injuries have now hit Alex Wright and Isiah Thomas, both diagnosed with knee injuries. Today Jerome Ford and Drew Forbes both went down with injuries. Joining Greg Newsome and Tristan Hill who are both still out.

The Browns have been making roster moves as they will need guys to play these exhibition games while starters will see few if any reps.
