EPISODE 286 - Sian Hill - Row Boats and Submarines, How Your Thoughts Become Things
I help women to transform their thinking, release limitations and become an impactful coach through my Accredited NLP, Time Line Therapy and Hypnotherapy Certification programmes
Growing up, I hated being me! That lack of self-love grew more and more over the years and by my mid-twenties, I’d hit the self-sabotage button that many times that life was pretty rubbish. I'd managed to get myself into a lot of debt, a relationship that I realise now was abusive in many ways and my health was pretty poor. The funny thing was that looking in from the outside, you would never have known. I was good at putting a smile on my face and pretending I had it together.
The truth was that I felt like I was drowning. I was sure that everyone else knew what they were doing, they’d had lessons in school about life that I’d missed. I spent what should’ve been my ‘fun’ years, having no fun at all! I went from job to job doing work that I found completely unfulfilling whilst racking up the credit cards, the whole time thinking that there has to be more to life.
I’m so thankful that in my mid-twenties, my Mum gave me a book, 'The Secret'. This book introduced a new way of thinking; a way that said I was able to create my reality. Up to that point, life had just happened to me...I was ready to change. I became obsessed and read tonnes of books about the law of attraction, manifestation and creating your reality, I went to seminars, short courses and I watched everything I could find on YouTube, but nothing much changed.
The issue was, I was still me!
Sian is the author of the book “Activate Your RAS - The Art and Science of Creating Your Reality from The Inside Out,” and host of the Vibrant Mind Vibrant Life podcast. As an Internationally Certified Trainer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Time Line Therapy, Hypnotherapy and Breakthrough Coach, she works both 1-1 with clients and training people to become accredited coaches. She teaches people to re-programme their unconscious mind, rewire old belief systems and break through lifelong mental and emotional blocks so they can create a life they love.

I wanted to write a novel for many, many years. Even with my passion for history, I struggled to get beyond even a few pages in writing a historical fiction novel. With historical fiction, I felt like any character I created would just be inserted into a tale that had already been richly told.

I needed the challenge of telling a new tale – one full of its own wondrous, brave, and devious characters.

Envisioning a new place … Ardalencor … recharged my creativity and unleashed the freedom of possibility. I hope you enjoy In Times of War: A Tale of Ardalencor.

    Show notes

EPISODE 282 - Bryan Mitchell - Stay on the Path, Avoid the Shiny Things And The Root of The Problem
The hardest thing I’ve ever done is share a piece of my soul with others. It makes me feel vulnerable. Like a thief who just got spotted by the police with his pants down. Can’t run away now. Gotta face whatever judgement awaits. That’s how I feel when I share my stories. I cringe like a baby tasting a lemon and look at the reader all weird, hoping they want more.

While I cringe, eye twitching, neck straining, there’s one thing that holds me together and that is the truth. Like me. Love me. Hate me. It’s not my decision. The important thing is the olive branch that I’ve extended. I’m trying to connect with you and honored you’re making the effort to hear me out. This is what story telling is. It’s who we are. It’s how we connect and grow together.

If you happen to look up at me while reading and see a ghastly face trembling like Hulk Hogan waking up from a bearhug, just know, I’m happy you gave me the opportunity, pal, and I encourage you to pass along the olive branch to others in your life because we all need to make ourselves vulnerable to be real. We’ve all written terrible prose. We’ve all fallen short of Shakespeare. Forgive yourself and others for those wordy sentences and write the good write.

Sorry, I can’t end with that. Let’s simmer it down a little. I have a short story you can read for free if you sign up for my newsletter. It is called No Place Like Home. My debut novel, Infernal Fall, will be out in October of 2022. All subscribers will get updates on that and more. Hope you stick around. Say Hello if you do.

E281 - Dr. Laurie Weiss - Author With Forty Years Practicing Psychotherapy and Coaching Nov 18, 2023
    Show notes

EPISODE 281 - Dr. Laurie Weiss - Author With Forty Years Practicing Psychotherapy and Coaching
After over 40 years practicing psychotherapy and coaching, I had no intention of starting a new phase of my career. In fact, before a colleague used Logosynthesis to end my overreaction to loud events in just a few minutes, while standing in a parking lot, I was planning to retire, content with a long career as a relationship communication expert.

My husband/business partner and I were so intrigued with this recently discovered tool that we just had to learn more. We were thrilled when we found we could help our clients make important life changes in a fraction of the time, and with a fracti

on of the pain ordinarily associated with psychotherapy.

Now, ten years later, we are both Certified Logosynthesis Trainers and Master Practitioners. And now, in addition to a 7-book Secrets of Happy Relationships Series, and several very popular books on psychotherapy, codependency and personal growth, I can offer you two exciting books on Logosynthesis® for rapid anxiety relief using only words.

My first major book, Recovery from Codependency, co-authored with my husband, Jonathan B. Weiss, Ph.D., stated:
“This book is written to help end the cycle of child abuse, in which the abused child grows into an Adult Child who passes the abuse to his own children. Our purpose is to help create a world in which each child is treated with love, honor, respect and appropriate limits.”

I would now add that all my work is directed toward creating a world where each person is treated that way.

That means helping as many adults as possible heal from their childhood wounds. Adults who experience joy instead of pain can avoid passing on the wounds they experienced when they were small to anyone else. My hope is to contribute to having safety and appropriate nurturing for all of us.

My professional background also includes a Ph.D. and certification as a Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst, International Transactional Analysis Association and Master Certified Coach, International Coach Federation. My work has been translated into German, Chinese, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic and possibly Russian.

Personally, my personal life has been intertwined with my professional life since I started working with my husband in 1970. We have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. Married in 1960, we have traveled extensively, teaching (and playing) in 13 different countries

E278 - Lori Ann Wood - How An Incurable Heart Failure Created a Divine Detour Nov 15, 2023
    Show notes

EPISODE 278 - Lori Ann Wood - How An Incurable Heart Failure Created a Divine Detour
My heart journey began in November 2015: the physical part on November 27, the spiritual part three weeks earlier. On November 6, around 10:00 pm on a stretch of highway a few hours from my home, I prayed specifically for God to make my life matter in His Kingdom and pledged that I would do anything to that end. Immediately, apprehensive tears streamed down my face as I realized the weight of that promise.

Less than a month later, I almost died from heart failure from an unknown cause: severe idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy. I soon learned I had an EF of 8% and spent 14 days in the hospital, most of it in ICU, as doctors tried to save my life. All of this despite having no risk factors, no family history, low blood pressure, low cholesterol levels, and a recent medical evaluation declaring that I had less than 3% chance of ever developing heart disease. I was emergency flighted to Cleveland Clinic and became their most critical patient for 16 months. During that time I wore a Life Vest external defibrillator, carefully titrated my meds to maximum dosages, and eliminated sodium from my diet. I was eventually implanted with a Biventricular CRT-D, a combination pacemaker/internal defibrillator.

Meanwhile, thousands of people prayed for me around the clock despite a grim prognosis and sympathetic tears from every doctor we encountered. Some would say nothing much happened for many, many months, but the miracle was that I survived. Peace enveloped my husband and I, and we held on tight and trusted. Against all medical odds, my EF was restored on March 27, 2017.

I don’t want to mislead you into thinking my journey is over, that the story is fully written. I have had setbacks since, physically, and even spiritually. But God showed up countless times throughout the journey and continues to walk through this with me, as I put my today and tomorrow in His tender, merciful hands, and wait for what is next. I trust in God as a loving father. If He chooses to normalize my heart and grant me years into old age, then may He receive all praise and glory. If God has a different story that He is writing, please pray I can endure that journey with the grace and peace that is only experienced through the Spirit of God. Thank you for caring enough to join me in this

EPISODE 277 - Lynne Golodner - From Journalist, Podcaster and Now Writing a Novel A Year For The Rest of Your Life
When Lynne Golodner was a child, she carried around a corduroy-covered journal and filled the pages with stories, poems, and skits. Writing has always been her way of making sense of the world, of seeing the beauty in ordinary moments. She keeps that journal on a shelf behind her desk now to remind her to stay true to the person she’s always been.

Lynne spent 15 years as a journalist in New York, Washington, D.C., and Detroit. She earned an MFA in Writing from Goddard College, and she has taught writing in universities and around the world for decades. In 2007, she pivoted from journalist to marketing entrepreneur when she created Your People LLC. Just before the pandemic, she pivoted once again, to return to her writing roots and focus on writing books and teaching writing.

In the years since, Lynne has completed her first novel, WOMAN OF VALOR, which debuts September 26, 2023. This is Lynne’s ninth published book. She also founded SCOTIA ROAD BOOKS, an independent publishing imprint for women over 40 with strong voices that need to be heard.

Lynne spends every morning writing, and devotes afternoons to teaching and working with clients. She helps writers build their author brands and hone their craft through Developmental Editing and Book Coaching, Author Brand Marketing Mastermind, The Writers Community and Writing Coaching.

Subscribe to my Lynne’s Substack for writing tips, prompts, advice and opportunities!

On the Make Meaning Podcast, which Lynne launched in 2018, she interviews authors and people in publishing.

Lynne is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Goddard College, and she earned a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at Wayne State University. The mother of four young adults, she lives in Huntington Woods, Michigan with her husband Dan.
