FF 214 - Legalizing Marijuana in Connecticut with Nicholas Stein Feb 07, 2020

On today's episode of Felony Friday Nicholas Stein joins John to share his personal history in the criminal justice system and how it's motivated him to help to change marijuana laws in his home state.

Nicholas made some careless decision during his youth and ended up with two marijuana convictions, a misdemeanor for possession and a felony for intent to distribute. He is now working full time to change the marijuana laws so others don't get caught in the same net. Nicholas is working with other activists to lobby for the legalization of recreational marijuana in Connecticut and to automatically expunge criminal records for certain marijuana crimes.

437. A Paradigm Shift on Abortion? Kerry Baldwin Makes a Libertarian Case for a New Perspective Feb 03, 2020

In today's flagship Lions of Liberty podcast, host Marc Clair is joined by Kerry Baldwin of MereLiberty.com and the Dare to Think podcast to discuss her unique take on the subject of abortion, one that critiques not only the standard "pro-choice" and "pro-life" positions, but even the "principled compromise" position of evictionism as presented by Walter Block. Kerry's critique of Block's position even led to her debating him on the topic at a recent Soho Forum.

While I thought I had put the abortion issue to bed after my episode 400 roundtable, Kerry presented such a unique perspective on the issue that I had to invite her on to expand. We dive deep into some of the most difficult aspects of the abortion issue, including what should the libertarian outlook should be when rape is involved, the concept of a fetus as "trespasser" as presented by Block, and how a true paradigm shift on the issue can lead to better outcomes for consenting adults and fetuses alike.

FF 212 - Finally Free - Maurice Clifton Shares his Incredible Story Jan 24, 2020

On today's episode Maurice Clifton joins John to share his story. Maurice was released from prison just two weeks ago, on January 10th!

Maurice originally was sentenced to 33 years and 4 months for crimes where nobody was hurt. He went to trial for selling 6.4 grams of cocaine and money laundering. During sentencing he was held responsible for 1.5 kilograms of ghost dope. This took his sentence from possibly receiving 60 to 70 months, to being moved to a category that put him in the guideline range of 360 to life. Ultimately, Maurice served 23 years. And the First Step Act secured his freedom.
