402: Gayngels and Demons with Nicole Maines Sep 21, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Nicole Maines(@nicoleamaines), actress and transgender rights activist known for playing the first transgender superhero, Nia Nal, on SuperGirl. We chat about where Nicole would be if she was still in welding class, how happy she is to be doing what she loves and the positive fan reaction to her portrayal of Nia Nal. We also discuss more diverse and nuanced representation where LGBTQ characters can be both Gayngels and Demons. From Nicole playing a vampire in Bit to a superhero, she's played both sides of the spectrum and wants to see other characters that explore the gray area in between "good and evil" where people are just people. Check out her new film Bit, the queer vampire movie we've all been waiting for on Amazon here: https://amzn.to/32PhiaL. SBG 50: Folklore with Becca Damante Sep 14, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) are joined by freelance journalist and Taylor Swift expert, Becca Damante (@beccadamante) to talk about why Taylor Swift's Folklore Should've Been Gay. This is our first ever Should've Been Gay for an album and we could not be more excited for this pick. We talk about the teenage love triangle between Betty, James and a third mystery woman, Taylor Swift's very specific choice of words like chosen family, hiding in the closet and literally every lyric in Betty. Riding on your skateboard, kissing in front of all your stupid friends and leading her to the garden, sound familiar or just gay? We end the debate that James is a man with the irrefutable argument that a high school boy couldn't get away with sleeping next to his girlfriend and dreaming about another girl all summer long, but who could?! Lesbians! Sleeping next to their girlfriend and pretending it's a harmless sleepover since 1999. And of course we had to dive into some #kaylor theories because it's just too fun not to! Follow along on Twitter @lezhangoutpod and Facebook and Instagram (@lezhangoutpod). And check out Becca's non-profit Pride and Less Prejudice, providing age appropriate LGBTQ books for pre-K to 3rd grade. https://www.prideandlessprejudice.org/

319: Carry Your Gays (Season Finale) Jun 29, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) talk about how to carry your gays and how to create better LGBTQ media. We talk about varying your gays, marrying your gays, cherry your gays, nonbinary-ing your gay, scary-ing your gays and faerie-ing your gays. The -arrys are endless! From diversifying your gays on screen and off screen, there are some stellar examples of representation, but we can always be striving for more! We also shout out some of our favorite shows like Pose, Gentefied, Generation Q, One Day At A Time, Killing Eve and Motherland Fort Salem. What are your favorite LGBTQ shows on TV? SBG 49: Can't Hardly Wait with Sabrina Jalees LIVE Jun 22, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) are joined by comedian Sabrina Jalees (@sabrinajalees) LIVE during Tagg Magazine's Queerantine Con to talk about why Can't Hardly Wait Should've Been Gay. We all had very different takes on the film. From Sabrina re-writing the film to fulfill her life long fantasies of Jennifer Love Hewitt falling in love with her, to Ellie thinking that Preston could very easily be replaced by a lesbian to Leigh seeing the clear love story between repressed jock Mike Dexter and king of nerds William Lichter. This teenage ensemble comedy leaves all kinds of room for gay interpretations. Oh and let's not pretend we don't all know a lesbian like Denise in her long leather jacket. 318: Bad Queers with Shana and Kris Jun 15, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Shana Sumers and Kris Chesson, the co-hosts of Bad Queers (@badqueerspod), a podcast for people who came out of the closet and feel like they got placed in a box of stereotypes they don't belong to. In this episode, we talk about our unpopular queer opinions, our favorite queer urban dictionary words and what it really means to be a "bad queer." Spoiler alert: bad queers don't exist, just queer queers! We talk about Shana not loving astrology and Ellie and Leigh get into a heated debate with Kris over her not liking musicals. Because how?! Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode and follow our Instagram (@lezhangoutpod) for Kris and Shana's takeover later this week! SBG 48: Miss Congeniality with Rebecca Noyes Jun 08, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) are joined by Lez Hang Out events' director Rebecca Noyes (@rebecca_noyes) to talk about why Miss Congeniality Should've Been Gay. If Gracie Lou Freebush isn't a lesbian, why does she act and look and speak like one? From the first minute Gracie is on screen as a kid reading Nancy Drew (we've all been there) to the last minute when Gracie is holding onto her girlfriend Cheryl as if her life depends on it, there is SO MUCH GAY. Miss Congeniality is the love story between an out and proud lesbian cop and a repressed Miss Rhode Island who sets fire to her batons and her sexuality for the love of her life. There is no other way to interpret this film. Follow along on Twitter @lezhangoutpod and Facebook and Instagram (@lezhangoutpod).

317: God Save the Lesbian Bar w/ Lisa Cannistraci Jun 01, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) hang out with Lisa Cannistraci, the owner of Henrietta Hudson, the longest running lesbian bar in the country, (@henriettahudson), to chat about her experience running the bar. From taking Madonna on a tour of all of the lesbian bars in NYC, to Melissa Etheridge taking over the stage when the band started playing "Come to My Window", Lisa has seen it all. She talked to us about embracing the full spectrum of the LGBTQ community when she realized that she needed to adapt and make it a lesbian centric bar for the entire LGBTQ community. She also discussed her activism and how she's never shied away from taking a stand even if it means losing business. This iconic bar needs to raise $20k per month until social distancing restrictions are lifted. SBG 47: Beaches with Liliana Cervantes May 25, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) are joined by comedian Liliana Cervantes (@comedian_liliana_cervantes) to talk about why Beaches Should've Been Gay. From the first meeting between little butch CC and little high femme Hillary while CC is smoking a cigarette under the pier to their photo booth shenanigans and the fact that they stay long distance pen pal lovers for 10 years before they ever even see each other again, this movie just screams gay. The male relationships in CC and Hillary's lives all fail and in the end, they're only left with each other and they're much happier that way. CC even gains custody of Hillary's daughter and is in the delivery room when she's born. What a beautiful gay love story! 316: Lez-ssentials Portrait of A Lady on Fire May 18, 2020
    Show notes

Leigh (@lshfoster) and Ellie (@elliebrigida) dive into Portrait of a Lady on Fire for this Lez-ssentials episode, a recurring segment on the essential movies and TV shows in the lesbian canon. We chat about this movie about queers in isolation before social distancing was all the rage. We discuss the choices that Marianne and Heloise have to make because of their circumstances, what it means to truly see someone else and Adele Haenel's eyes. Ellie wants more of the intimate scenes to be showcased in the film and Leigh discusses why she thinks the ending is perfection. From Drunkappella at the bonfire to Vivaldi's Four Seasons, we also have a field day with the soundtrack for this film. Lez-ssentials comes complete with a Portrait of A Lady on Fire drinking game because every lesbian movie or tv show should be accompanied by heavy drinking. This episode also comes with an original Lez-ssentials song based off Portrait of A Lady On Fire entitled "Desire." Follow along on Twitter: Lez Hang Out (@lezhangoutpod) and answer our Q & Gay at the end of every episode. Leigh Holmes Foster (@lshfoster) and Ellie Brigida (@elliebrigida). You can also join us on Facebook.com/lezhangoutpod and Instagram (@lezhangoutpod). Join us on Patreon at bit.y/lezpatreon for a free download of the song.
