His first go around with the magazine was with his 1967 Yellow Karmann Ghia which won "Americas Most Beautiful VW" 2 years in a row. His passion for VWs is only paralleled by his attention to detail. We discuss the early years. The cal-look scene as well as his latest car he listed for $65,000 on Facebook! its a great story.

Steve is one of the original VW builders from Bakersfield Ca. With is shop Volks Works he built / painted & created over a dozen cars that were featured in the mid to late 80's. His knack for customization & paint put the Bakersfield crew on the map. He also with Chris Addington sold custom dashboards, bumpers and more. If it was cool & from Bakersfield Steve probably played a role in it. He later moved on to the V8 world building more custom cars.

When it comes to 80's type 3's no one can forget George Delfinos Shockwave. It was first featured in Hot VWs Sep 1984 as a full body light blue square back with graphics. Don't forget the 4-12" subwoofers & 1400 watts of stereo power. The George decides to raise the bar! On a whim while being bored George takes a sawz all to the square backs roof. Then begins the build of the decade. George also has been into car audio even owning a stereo shop. Hear about the times during the 80s in Bakersfield where high tech looking VWs were the norm.
