Welcome to “Episode 231: The Haunted Story of the Mad Monk, Rasputin”! This week, Aly and Nat explore the bizarre and haunted life of Grigori Rasputin, the Siberian peasant mystic who clawed his way into Russia’s royal court. Born in a frozen Siberian village under a streaking meteor, Rasputin grew up as a troubled boy rumored to possess strange psychic gifts and an uncanny bond with horses. His rise from wandering holy man to spiritual advisor of Tsar Nicholas II and Tsarina Alexandra was fueled by his supposed healing powers over their hemophiliac son, Alexei, but also marred by scandals of debauchery, occult rumors, and political meddling. We unravel the infamous story of his assassination (poisoned, shot, beaten, and drowned) while exposing the contradictions and conspiracy theories that made him the “unkillable man.” From the haunted mirrors of the Yusupov Palace to ghost sightings in his old apartment, Rasputin’s legend continues to blur fact and folklore. Was he a conman, a true mystic, or something darker?
