Some houses are occupied by the restless spirits of those who have passed within their walls. They leave signs of their presence if you pay close enough attention, sometimes they even have enough energy to touch you, or move something in your home. Other effects can be more insidious...a dark thought injected into the brain, a cloud of hopelessness left lingering in the air for all to consume.
Both appear to be the case at 6304 Beryl Road, where Esperanza and Gary Belofsky experienced a haunting that in the end, resulted in their story being one of the only cases of death attributed to paranormal activity in recorded history.
Let's get dark.

The abusive tactics are similar to many others we've discussed on the show before, and sadly, this didn't end any better than those. The majority of the Movement's followers would lose their lives to the homicidal tendencies of its leadership, being poisoned, bludgeoned, and trapped and a terrible fire, after one too many failed end of days predictions.

Kyron Horman was a second-grader at Skyline Elementary in rural Portland Oregon on June 4, 2010, as families gathered at the school for the annual science fair. He posed proudly in front of his tree frog exhibit as his stepmother took a photo, and then by all accounts, Kyron completely disappeared.
The search that followed would end up being the largest in Portland history, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding his disappearance uncovered truly bizarre details of his family life, and his relationship with his stepmother, the last person he was seen with.

It was a tragic situation that might seem logical, except for a few major details: she was found with her wrist and ankles bound behind her body, she was nude, and there was a cryptic message written near her body that doesn't seem like it was written by Rebecca. The investigation uncovered a ton of hinky details that only muddied the waters further regarding both deaths. 93 - The Ernie Rivers Poltergeist Mar 21, 2021

In Let's Get Dark's very first "Midnight Session" episode (those with a paranormal/esoteric subject matter) we discuss the very first Poltergeist in a housing project in the US: the haunting of 13 year old Ernie Rivers and his grandmother Mabelle Clark. Ernie had a tumultuous childhood, which culminated in an incredibly active and physical poltergeist that tormented him & his grandmother for months in 1961. The fact that they lived in public housing, meant that various officials began interceding in their lives, and the activity escalated so terribly that Ernie was removed from his grandmother's custody. There were elements of race and class discrimination rampant throughout their entire ordeal, and one has to wonder how differently the situation would have been handled had they not been a poor black family. But, when it came down to it, no one who witnessed the activity in the apartment could rationally explain what was taking place there.

Yaser Said moved to America from Egypt in 1983 and shortly after, at the age of 30, married 15 year old Patricia Owens. By the time she was 18, the couple had three children under the age of five, and severely struggled to make ends meet. Yaser was a controlling and abusive husband and father, particularly focusing his attention on his beautiful daughters, who he saw as a way to secure financial success once they were old enough to marry off to wealthy "suitors" back in Egypt. When they rebelled against this abuse, an already mentally troubled Yaser completely lost it, and the end result was the tragic and brutal murder of the two bright young women who were unfortunate enough to be born into this unstable family. Join us as we discuss the murders of Amina and Sarah Said at the hands of their father, Yaser.

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was created as a more rigid interpretation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more specifically to continue practicing polygamy after the LDS church stopped. Because there was never any structure within the FLDS, there have been battles for power since its inception, and the cult has always been rife with abuse and corruption. When Rulon Jeffs became the prophet and his son manipulated his way to the position at his death, the FLDS reached all-new levels of depravity. He was a lunatic regarded as the mouth of God, and the obedience of his followers was essential to their access to heaven. The entire cult is an example of the repeating cycles of abuse and a lesson that the only good cult is a Creep It Real cult.

On the morning of April 18, 2016, Missy Bevers showed up to run her Camp Gladiator class at the Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, Texas just after 4 in the morning. What Missy didn't know, unfortunately, was that an unidentified person dressed in knockoff police tactical gear had broken into the church and was lying in wait for her. When her clients arrived less than thirty minutes later, they discovered Missy had been brutally murdered inside the church.
It has been nearly five years, and though the killer was caught on security footage, and there seems to be plenty of suspicious people and circumstances surrounding the murder, it remains unsolved. Who killed Missy Bevers, and managed to get away with it for so long? Let's talk about it.

78 - Alfred Packer: Why deny ourselves a bite of meaty thigh to Stay Alive? Oct 12, 2020

In this episode, we discuss one of America's oldest pastimes: cannibalism. Alfred (or Alferd if you ask him) Packer was an early settler in the Western Frontier which was essentially one hard time after another, and that wasn't helped by his general unlikeableness and all-around shady behavior. In 1874, when he led a group of men through the harsh Colorado winter wilderness against the warnings of the Indigenous tribe who had welcomed them in, all the men ended up dead, except for ol' Packer. In fact, he claimed to have survived off something all together unsettling: the men's meaty thighs. The story was an uproar for the newly settled area, and it was a venerable shitshow as they attempted to seek justice for the dead men. Join us for a very special collaboration with our girls over at Kim and Ket Stay Alive...Maybe who covered the amazingly bizarre movie "Ravenous" which was very loosely based off the story of Alfred Packer and is MUCH sexier. At the end of the episode, we all sit together to discuss our feelings on cannibalism, Ravenous, Packer, and which of us would be cool with chomping on some meaty thighs...outside of the bedroom.

73 - The Delphi Murders of Abby Williams & Libby German Aug 30, 2020

On February 13, 2017, Liberty German, 14, and Abigail Williams, 13, were hiking on the Delphi Historic Trail near the Monon High Bridge just east of Delphi, Indiana. Libby and Abby were reported missing to police after their parents were unable to locate them at the pick-up location after their hike, which was under two hours. Volunteers subsequently discovered the girls’ bodies in the woods off the historic trail system the following day, on February 14. Very little information about the girls' murders has been released to the public, and not much is known about the crime scene or what evidence investigators have. Although there is video and audio of the killer taken by one of the girls, their case remains unsolved to this day. Join us as we discuss the details surrounding the murders of Abby Williams and Libby German.

In this episode we discuss the inordinate amount of violence in relation to Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas, and the long list of deaths, murders, and accidents that are only a few of the violent and often deadly situations that have been taking place there at an alarming rate for quite some time. While it is the most populous military installation in the world, there has to be more to it than that. The Fort is thought by many throughout the Army to be a place where the safety of its soldiers is not guaranteed and is a "less than desirable" station. That said, there is ample evidence to support that issues of sexual and physical harassment, along with mental health are not taken seriously within the military as a whole, and it's clear that Fort Hood doesn't stand alone with an abundance of these issues. That said, why does this base in Texas lead the way in cases of suicides, domestic violence, terrorism, and deaths time and time again? Let's talk about it.

After basic training, she was deployed to Balad, Iraq, and within weeks of deployment, she reported that she had been raped. On July 19, 2005, 5 weeks into her deployment, she was found dead in what was allegedly a contractor’s tent. An incredible amount of young women and men who worked closely with Gothard have accused him of sexual and emotional abuse, and after taking a closer look at him and his life, we have no reason to doubt their credibility. It was a cold October night, when cyclist Aaron Kreifels came upon something horrifying on the side of the desolate road as he made his way home just after dusk. Slumped over and tied to a fence post was bloody & brutally beaten Matthew Shepard clinging to life.

It would later be determined that Matthew had been slumped at the fence for over 18 hours since he had been beaten and tied to the fence by two young locals, Russell Henderson & Aaron Mckinney. He suffered traumatic injuries to his head that put him in a coma, from which he would never recover.

The media was quick to determine this was one of the worst hate crimes in history due to Matthew being a young gay man...but was there actually more to the story than we were presented at the time? Join us as we delve into the tragic story of Matthew Shepard.

49 - The Taliesin Massacre: A Fiery, Axe-Murdering Rampage Oct 31, 2019

Taliesin was the 600 acre estate owned by renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright, located south of the village of Spring Green, Wisconsin.

After having an affair with Mary (Mamah) Borthwick, Wright left his first wife Catherine Lee Tobin, and designed Taliesin, where he and Mamah would reside.

Many of Wright’s most acclaimed designs were created there, and although beautiful, the property was home to a brutal massacre. One afternoon, a butler working for Wright set fire to the property and then took an axe to the residents of the estate. He killed 7 people, making it the most murders committed by one civilian at one place and time in Wisconsin history.
With all the violence and turmoil that took place on the property, it is said to be haunted by restless spirits to this day.

38 - The "Disappearance" of Jaliek Rainwalker May 14, 2019

Jaliek Rainwalker was born to a drug-addicted mother, and because of this, was diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder, making it difficult for him to develop relationships. This also came with behavioral and developmental disorders, which resulted in his living in six separate foster homes before being adopted by Stephen Kerr and Jocelyn McDonald when he was 12 years old. Unfortunately, his new home was filled with fairly unlivable conditions and abuse. His foster parents, clearly not equipped to care for a child like Jaliek, wanted him out of their home. One evening, while he and his adoptive father were alone in a relative's unoccupied home, Jaliek disappeared and has never been seen or heard from since.

Did Jaliek really run away as his father claims, or did he do something terrible to him that night, something that he has gotten away with to this day? We discuss all the tragic details in this episode, with a special guest host, Holly from Murd Up Podcast.

33 - Heather Cameron-Haller & Khadijah Britton - MMIW pt. 2 Mar 07, 2019

The day Heather Cameron-Haller went missing, she called 911 three separate times, telling the operator she had been drugged with heroin by her ex-boyfriend, Daniel Lusby, and needed help. Law enforcement reportedly could not find any sign of Heather upon their search, and she has never been seen or heard from again. Daniel Lusby has never been charged with any crime related to Heather's disappearance, and her family is left with no answers regarding what happened to her that day almost 7 years ago.
Khadijah Britton was a 23 year old woman in an abusive relationship with a man named Neggie Fallis IV, when she disappeared. If you can call being forced into a vehicle at gunpoint a "disappearance". Fallis and his current girlfriend were both seen pulling up to the home where Khadijah was staying, and a witness saw him force her into the car at gunpoint. Nevertheless, initial attempts to report Khadijah as missing went ignored by law enforcement, and to this day, no one has been charged in her disappearance.

On August 18, 2010 a 30 year old scuba diver went for a night dive in the underwater caves at Vortex Springs in Ponce De Leon, Florida and was never seen again.

Extensive searches of the caves (which go over 115ft deep) by at least 16 professional recovery divers yielded absolutely no sign of the man, and have left many questions over the years about what happened to him. Did he get trapped underwater? Run out of oxygen? Was he really down in those caves when he disappeared, or did something else happen to him that night in 2010?

A topic that is not widely known or discussed, but has been a long-standing and constant problem within the US and Canada to this day, is the disappearance and murders of thousands of indigenous women.
Many of these women go missing or murdered without media attention, without being put into a missing persons database, and most have not received the justice they or their families deserve.
Today we discuss the story of Amber Tuccaro, a 20 year old mother from the Miksew Cree First Nations Tribe in Alberta Canada.
Amber was murdered by what is likely a serial killer in the Edmonton area, where there are over 15 indigenous women who have gone missing in recent years.

Felipe cantos, went missing in 2003, after witnesses saw - you guessed it - Steven Calkins put him in the back of his patrol car, and yet again, he hasn’t been seen since.

In our conclusion of our coverage of the Children of God/The Family/The Family International/whatever name they use to rebrand their horrible cult this year, we discuss the tenets of the cult as it evolved, the last years of leader David Berg's life, his wife Karen Zerby's rise to prophet after his death, and some of the extremely disturbing abuse that was commonplace within the cult.
We will also talk about Zerby's son, Ricky Rodriguez, or Davidito, as he was known within the cult, who was supposed to be the next in line for status of prophet for the cult, but who was so traumatized and disgusted by the environment in which he was raised, he left the cult and began to see himself as a vigilante for justice for the others who had experienced what he had there. This ended tragically, as it has for a ridiculous amount other second-generation members of this dangerous and destructive cult.

David Berg founded the Children of God under the tenets of "God is love"...and ended up taking his interpretation of god's love waaaaay past the point of sanity. Preaching that sex was how you showed love, the cult encouraged married couples to copulate with others in the cult, that women share the word of god with strangers by engaging in sexual relations, and even told parents that they should engage in sexual activity with their own children, and the children of others in the organization. With his charismatic charm, and confidence in which he proselytized, his followers hung on his every word, and easily convinced others to join them. Unfortunately, this created an incredibly dangerous environment for children being raised in the cult, as well as many of the adult members. Join us today, as we delve into the horrifying activities Berg and the Children of God members committed in the name of God, under his direction.

When a 21 year old Canadian woman went missing from LA’s notorious Cecil Hotel, everyone suspected the worst. After she’d been missing a few weeks, the LA PD released surveillance footage from the hotel’s elevator that was extremely eerie and began to make the public wonder if something unexplainable had happened.

When it was discovered that the young woman’s body had been submerged in one of the hotel’s water tanks, providing water to resident’s showers, and even a restaurant...the true horror of the situation came to light. But when few questions were able to be answered by law enforcement, speculation ran wild. Was this woman the victim of a predator? Did she commit suicide on her trip to California? According to Navajo legend, Skinwalkers are a type of witch closely associated with underground gatherings. They are "wer-animals" and own an animal skin that is used to transform them into these animals. Any real animal can see through the skinwalker's disguise but even a human can recognize the unnatural creature. For some unexplainable reason even a well seasoned skinwalker cannot obtain the perfect animal gait or leave the proportionally correct sized animal tracks. While the Uintah County region has a vast history of paranormal events that have been documented for over a thousand years, the highest concentration of events has always taken place at the spot we now call the Skinwalker Ranch. According to locals in the area, members of the Ute tribe are forbidden from stepping foot on the property, believing it to be cursed generations ago by the Navajo who had been forced from their land by the US Army, and the Ute tribe who was working with them. There are well-documented sightings of UFOs and strange lights, enormous wolves and various unexplainable creatures, Sasquatch, poltergeist activity, cattle mutilations and disappearances, and much more. We continue to discuss the case of Kenneka Jenkins, a 19 year old young woman found deceased in an unused freezer of the Crowne Plaza Rosemont Hotel, where she had been attending a party the night prior. Rosemont Public Safety closed the investigation into her death within a month after her death, and we have some questions on why this was their decision. Audio heard in the opening of the show is the official audio in Rosemont Public Safety's Freedom of Information files on the Kenneka Jenkins investigation, and give you a first-hand account of the claim that she was "frozen solid", contrary to a few factors we discussed in episode 1, and continue in this conclusion.

The circumstances of her death are extremely bizarre and questionable, and along with the inconsistencies in the official story, more questions are raised than answered. Following her release from the Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in Malibu, California at nearly one am, Mitrice Richardson went missing for months. This was a circumstance the Sheriff's Department found of little concern, and not worth much effort. Ten months later, when park rangers discovered her partially mummified remains on the hillside of Dark Canyon, the Sheriff's Department went against coroner's directives, and California Penal Code, and airlifted the remains to their station without doing any due diligence to document or preserve the scene and remains. Today, we discuss these events, the events that followed, and talk to a member of the Search and Rescue team for Mitrice, who had firsthand experience with the LASD. 09 - The Murder of Mitrice Richardson Apr 25, 2018

A beautiful and vibrant 24 year old woman begins to show signs that she is going through a bipolar episode, and is acting erratically one evening at an expensive restaurant in the Malibu Hills. Sheriff's deputies arrive on scene, perform a sobriety test, and find the woman is sober. According to witnesses at the scene, and initial statements from the arresting deputies, the woman is definitely not of sound mind. She is taken into custody, with her car containing her phone, wallet, and atm card being impounded 11 miles away. She is released mere hours later, at 12:38am, in a strange town, with none of her belongings. After being spotted by a homeowner a few miles away at 6am, the woman is never seen alive again. After a half-hearted investigation and ever-evolving story by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, her body is discovered in a canyon over ten months later, completely nude, and partially mummified. What followed is perhaps one of the most egregious examples of negligence and mishandling of a crime scene, and the subsequent "investigation" into her death is no better. Her family is left with too many unanswered questions, no straight answers from law enforcement, and the loss of their loved before she had a chance to live a full life. What happened to Mitrice Richardson? Will her family ever receive the justice they deserve?

08 - The Disappearance of Brandon Lawson Apr 19, 2018

In the early hours of August 9, 2013, Brandon Lawson called 911 sounding out of breath, panicked, and saying he ran out of gas on Highway 277. The dispatcher failed to get his name or location, but did hear him end his call telling her he needed the cops, and to please hurry. Her negligence with the call led to the immediate failure of the aide he requested, and Brandon has never been seen again. In the years following his disappearance, there has been copious amounts of misinformation, discrepancy, and lack of due diligence from the police. Brandon's past colored the way the police treated his case from the get go, and leaves one to wonder if they are covering something up, or simply negligent. A father of four, husband, brother, and son is still missing to this day, and he and his family deserve justice and closure. What happened to Brandon that night in 2013? 04 - Creepin' History with The Dyatlov Pass Incident Mar 21, 2018

In mid-January, 1959, a groupe of students and recent graduates from Ural Polytechnic Institute departed from the city of Sverdlovsk, Russia on an expedition into the Northern Ural Mountain.s Each member of the group was extremely experienced in lengthy ski tours and mountain expeditions, and would all earn the distinguished Grade III hiking certification- the highest obtainable in the country, upon completing their journey. When the hikers hadn't arrived back home as expected, a search and rescue mission began. Over the span of the next few months, a horrifying discovery would be made: the bodies of all 9 hikers would be found scattered in various states of struggle, within a mile of their last campsite. Some with fatal blunt force trauma to their head or chest, many missing shoes and clothing, and another was even missing her tongue. The prosecutor at the time closed the investigation stating that "The hikers died of an unknown, compelling force." A vague determination that has left room for many theories in the past 60 years, ranging from UFOs to Government conspiracy. What caused these experienced hikers to flee their only shelter into total blackness, sub-zero temperatures, and imminent death that night in February, 1959?
