S3 EP09: How do you know when it’s the voice of God? Apr 07, 2025

I think this is a question we all ask ourselves, right? How do we know that we know that we know when it’s God speaking? What if it’s not?

In this episode, I walk through four “tests” per se, that might help you discern whether what you’re hearing is actually the voice of God.

Hint: It doesn’t sound like Morgan Freeman and it’s usually not a burning bush. Disappointing, I know.

But truly, we tend to over spiritualize what it sounds like or assume that it’s only on special occasions or big decisions but in reality, the Heavenly Father is always speaking!

Through His people,

Through His Word,

Through prayer,

Through dreams,

Through all kinds of places and particulars, His voice is reminding you that you’re seen, significant, and safe.

The kicker? His voice usually calls us to get uncomfortable, release some things that we want to hold onto, or calling us to step up in ways we feel ill-equipped.

John 10:27 says, “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me."

You are His sheep. He is your Shepherd. You have the Holy Spirit. You hear His voice right where you are.

Parker was involved in a boating accident in July of 2022 that nearly cost him his life, but he ended up having part of his right leg amputated, forever altering his baseball journey and life in general. His dad, Jeff, who is a physician, has been there every step of the journey as they have navigated the curveball nobody expected.

EP 35: Hope in Restoration May 03, 2021

We all want the pretty house and the completed projects-- it feels good, looks impressive, and helps us feel good about our current state of affairs. However, our Heavenly Father is so not worried about how things appear-- His concern is the state of our hearts. How are we really doing? Is there an issue, struggle, relationship, or thought pattern that we need restoration in but we are fearful to admit to ourselves, others, or Him?

He is the King of restoration and His type of restoration is not just repairing something to be functional or improving it's condition back to it's original form; He restores beyond recognition. His lavished grace, undeserved kindness, and rich mercy meet us in our mess and transform our minds, hearts, and lives beyond our comprehension.

Let's not wait...let's allow for the deep work and trust that He really can bring life back into anything. Our hope? Oh it is here and it is rich because our Savior will settle for nothing less.

Silence allows us to dig past what is on the surface and allows the Holy Spirit to deal with what the inside looks like. All throughout Scripture, Jesus took the time to find silence, knowing that if He wanted to really hear His Heavenly Father, He was going to have to be intentional and disciplined about making room. We protect what we believe is valuable, important, and significant. Jesus tells us to keep alert because the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, waiting for something to devour. Do we take this seriously? When we vigilantly protect, we victoriously prevail. When it comes to our daily lives, we must be alert to the many ways that the enemy does everything he can to take our joy, our faith, our hope, etc.
