Ep.150 - Chris - I Spent a Long Time Dying
Chris is the hardcore kid dressed in all black in the corner with a VHS camera, documenting most recent hardcore shows across California. He is known for capturing the modern Bay Area hardcore scene “RBS”, as well as putting out bands’ demos on cassette and releasing 8+ hours of various shows on VHS tapes.
We look into his teenage and formative years and getting into trouble, following Sunami across the U.S. prior to having a friendship with the band, finding himself, and living a more positive life.
Chris’s story is, I believe, the ultimate representation of “turning pain into power”.
Ep. 149 - Samayoa Brothers
Danny, Nic and Alex Samayoa are a power trio of brothers whos DNA is in all of California Hardcore, with a resumé that consists of bands such as Fury, Forced Order, Illusion, and Harness just to name a few.
We look back into their childhood and teenage years, bonding & growing together, some of their first bands, hardcore in the mid 2000’s, individual stories and lessons, what the future holds, and more!
Ep.148 - Colin Knight
Colin Knight is a recording engineer from Orange County, California, behind some of my favorite releases, such as LOCK promo, Warfare Demo, and Fury’s “Paramount,” just to name a few.
Colin has been a part of various projects across multiple genres, including Object of Affection, Leisure World, Media Jeweler, and DUCT.
We talk about years of hard work to become a full-time producer, formative youth experiences, first demos and EPs recorded, Object of Affection, and more.
Ep. 147 - Emirio Garcia
Emirio Garcia is a hardcore kid from the city of Long Beach who runs Quarantine Productions, Wilmore Records, and is the voice of a band called Spirit Dive.
A recognizable and warm figure in the Southern California hardcore scene, Emirio is a dedicated serviceman to this community and beyond.
We sit down at a park in his home city of Long Beach to talk about his upbringing, the formation of Quarantine Records, struggles with addiction, and more.
Ep. 146 - Stephen Zeigler (These Days Gallery)
Stephen Zeigler is the co-founder of the Downtown Los Angeles-based art gallery “These Days”.
We provide a timeline of his life, from his childhood in Manhattan Beach to a firsthand glimpse into the first wave of Los Angeles punk, and then into a lengthy career in photography with all its triumphs and tribulations.
His journey eventually led him and his wife (and co-founder) Jodi Zeigler to find a building in Downtown Los Angeles that initially served as their studio for the first couple of years and later became “These Days”.
Further topics we discuss include touring with AFI on their first national tour, the many lives of the building at 118 Winston St. (These Days), making a living through photography, sincerity and honesty in the art world, and more.
Ep. 145 - The Dark
The Dark is a punk band based out of Compton, California, who released our favorite album of 2024, Sinking Into Madness.
With a trajectory spanning 10 years and heavy Japanese punk influences such as GISM and GZET, you can also hear GBH and Black Metal mixed into their sound.
They self-released two demos, a 7-inch EP titled Demons under "Darker Records”, and a full-length album on Toxic State Records at the beginning of 2024 (as previously mentioned).
We are honored to have captured a glimpse into the story behind this unique and mysterious sound.
This episode was recorded in Gaby's (the bassist) childhood home on December 14, 2024.
Ep. 144 - Shane Moran (Title Fight)
A conversation that has been a couple of years in the making. Shane and I sit down on a sunny Sunday afternoon in South Central Los Ángeles.
We talk about his teenage years leading up to joining Title Fight, the Wilkes-Barre hardcore scene, his late friend John Slaby, his thoughts on a reunion, and working with Kenny Mason.

Teru is the frontman of the Japanese hardcore punk band Kagami, whom I had the pleasure of talking to with the help of our friends in Seudo Youth.
We discuss the current Japanese hardcore punk scene, how he learned to speak English, culture shocks from California, the formation of Kagami, and more.
Ep. 141 - Patrick Blaine
This episode is for Bay Area fans, by one of their own—talented drummer and lifer Patrick Blaine. He has played on tons of records over the years, including notable projects like Spiritual Cramp, Abi Yoyos, the Tony Molina Band, and currently Smirk and Toner.
We talk about his time playing in Abi Yoyos in high school, the Bay Area underground scene in the early 2000s, going to school in England, his complicated relationship with music, future goals, and more.
Ep. 140 - Nick Bruder Nick Bruder is a musician from the Bay Area who has been in tons of bands in recent years such as Culture Abuse, Mentor, and Toner. Ep. 138 - Mark Ausencia
Mark is the frontman behind the beloved San Bernardino punk band Ausencia and the mind behind the DIY punk record label Verdugo Records. While being a dedicated punk, Mark has also excelled in academia and is currently a college professor.
Mark and I discuss his rough upbringing, getting into punk before the internet, attending school for 11 years to receive a PhD, starting a family, and much more.

Ep. 137 - Max Hellesto (Regional Justice Center, Vatican Voss)
Max is the frontman and inspiration behind the wholehearted yet menacing-sounding project that is Regional Justice Center, while also showcasing a different side of creativity by performing in a rap project under the name “Vatican Voss.”
Max was incarcerated at the age of 18, shortly after his brother, Ian Shelton, began Regional Justice Center to commemorate him. After being a free man for a few years, Max and I speak about fronting RJC, his childhood and teenage years, adapting to life after prison, and what the future holds.
Ep.136 - Justin Cuevas
Justin Cuevas, better known as Crucial J, is the frontman of New Brigade, one of the vocalists in Minority Unit, and one of the best moshers in Southern California.
Justin and I talk about his upbringing in El Monte, playing sports, staying out of trouble as a teenager, the foundation of New Brigade, Soul Search’s major influence in California, joining the Marines, and more.

Mack Chami is the mastermind behind God is War and one half of the duo behind the powerful and vicious project Terror Cell Unit.

Ep. 134 - Remy Veselis
Remy Veselis is one half of the acclaimed duo Death Bells. He also showcases his talent as the guitarist for Object of Affection and Lovesick, manages tours for bands like Gatecreeper and Provoker, and runs the iconic venue Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles' Fairfax District.
In this episode, we explore his upbringing, the hardcore scene in his hometown of Byron Bay, Australia, the gradual rise of Death Bells, and his move to Los Angeles, along with a few life lessons he's learned along the way.
Episode 133: Ron "Going Underground Records"
Ron is the owner and founder of "Going Underground Records," a record store located in Bakersfield. Born and raised in Bakersfield, Ron, at the age of 21 in 2001, bought the inventory of a former record store, "Andy’s Noise," to open "Going Underground Records." My girlfriend Raquel, Daniel (our editor), and I took a trip to Bakersfield to learn as much as we could from Ron’s story.
We discuss Muñoz Gym, being a young punk in Bakersfield 20+ years ago, the inspiration behind "Going Underground Records," opening a second location in Los Angeles, and more.

Ep. 132 - Conrad Loebl
Conrad is a beloved DJ, event producer, and graphic designer. He is a hardcore kid who, over the years, has been crushing various aspects of the event industry, running bars and venues, as well as helping book shows and after-parties.
We speak about growing up in Hawaii, work ethic at a young age, the importance and power of community, putting together the widely known "Nature World Night Out" line-ups, and remembering late friends.

Ep. 131 - Marvin Noyola (Hot Load, Smut, Cemento, Death Rites, Situations) Marvin is an integral member of the Los Ángeles punk scene, playing in eight current bands that range across various styles of punk. He plays every instrument, including doing vocals, across all bands while also helping to book shows. We talk about his upbringing as the youngest in a first-generation Salvadorian home, his motivation to keep up with all his projects, touring Japan, his decision to get sober, and more. Ep. 128 - Mike Kriebel (Producer, Dirty and His Fists, VR Sex, The Eeries) Mike is a producer behind many modern punk classics and the famous "Beat Sessions." He has also played in multiple punk bands over the years, such as Dirty and His Fists and The Eeries. He has also been running a punk fest “This is Austin Not that Great”, plus tour managing multiple acts such as Lil Tracy, Narrowhead, and more. Ep. 124 - Cole Koopsman (Major Pain, Firestarter) Cole Koopsman, better known as “Koops” or Crucial Cole, is a living spirit of youth, hardcore, and positivity. I first saw Koops at a wrestling show in Long Beach many years ago and was engraved in my head due to his Gorilla Biscuits tattoo. Koops and I have run into each other at shows for some time now, and although we are opposites of each other, we are also very similar. We both love hardcore and want to better our lives in our own ways. In this episode, we talk about getting into hardcore, the future of hardcore, leading a positive life, and so much more. Ep. 122 - Ryan Outwest Ryan is the frontman/songwriter of the Oxnard power pop band "Outwest". Ep. 121 - Tony GUNN & K.T Green (Seudo Youth, G*U*N*N, People’s Temple, Advoids, and The Freakees) Tony and K.T are a power couple who are part of the up-and-coming hardcore punk band Seudo Youth. They both have been in many organic, interesting, and awesome hardcore punk bands prior. Ep. 120 - Sherwin Shapouri (Tour Manager/Manager) Sherwin, a Texas hardcore kid, rose to prominence as a tour manager in the alternative music scene. From releasing Power Trip’s initial demo to overseeing tours for Shoreline Mafia, Lil Peep, Iron Age, and Power Trip, he now manages acts like SEMATARY and Jesus Piece. We discuss his upbringing through his teenage years, starting with assisting Power Trip, embarking on DIY tours with Iron Age, constructing a venue/house in Texas, which was ultimately shut down after a Trash Talk/Odd Future show, and ultimately, making a career out of managing tours and acts. Ep. 119 - Ronn Perez (Photographer, Hordes, Pesadilla Distopika) Took a trip to the Inland Empire to interview Ronn, a Colton native who is quite an encyclopedia on Inland Empire Hardcore. Being known for his wholesome and warm style of photography, Ronn has also played bass in bands such as Hordes and Sistema Distopiko. We speak on his childhood, growing up as first generation in a Mexican household, the rich history of punk in the Inland Empire, getting into photography, and his life today. Ep. 118 - Dante-Sin Dante is a DJ, event organizer, and frontman of the band “Sin + Passion” from Pomona, California. Dante has been a DJ since his early ‘teens, taking inspiration from his father who has been a DJ for the greater part of his life. Dante speaks on his teenage years, attending all ages parties into his early 20’s, and his choice to stop DJ’ing to focus on Sin + Passion. Ep. 117 - Alex Barragan (Wise, Leave No Doubt, Castillo) If you are from L.A and never kicked with Alex either you are not from here or you’re lame as hell. Alex is the guitar man in “Wise” and “Castillo”, plus currently fronting a new band - “Leave No Doubt”. From being in bands, to booking shows, we talk about his teenage years into now. Ep. 112 - Ulysses Cooney (Blazing Eye, Knife Fight, Rayos X, Mugre) Ulysses Cooney, most known for being the drummer of Blazing Eye, has been an integral member of Los Angeles Punk for more than half his life. In the first half we talk about the infamous “Lynwood House” - a house where multiple core members of Los Angeles Punk lived together in their youth. We also speak on his personal life from feeling like an outcast in his neighborhood, getting kicked out of his house due to dressing punk, and becoming a dad while keeping his morals the same. Ep. 111 - Lil Friendship Guillermo Sánchez, better known as Memo or Lil Friendship passed away earlier this year. I had the pleasure to have recorded an interview on March 8th, 2022 in his home. Memo was a talented painter and created merch under the name Lil Friendship but more importantly, he was a friend loved by many. Memo and I sit down and discuss what it means to be a Mexican artist, growing up in Rialto, CA, and coming to LA to pursue art.
Ep. 110 - Sean Lim You may have heard of him you may not ….. who cares … Sean Lim is a Los Ángeles legend. Punk Rocker, Hardcore kid and overall rocker. We speak on growing up in a Chinese immigrant home, Sam Bosson getting him into punk, dealing with friends passing away and what the future holds for him.
Ep. 109 - Sam James Velde (Bluebird, Laughing Matter) Sam is a rock n roll lifer who has played many roles in uplifting aggressive music for years - from playing in bands, managing bands, and putting events together. We speak on the intensity of early punk gigs, the direction of current hardcore punk, as well as his personal life and stories.
Ep. 108 - Clique Clique is a teeth-clenching aggressive hardstyle hardcore band from the Bay Area with a very outspoken political message. I sat down with Joven (Vocals) and Kwame (Bass) on their stop in Los Angeles a couple months ago to take a look into their lives and what led them to create their style and specific take on music.We touch on various subjects from a Brown and Black man’s perspective wether that be internal or our outlook on the world. Ep. 107 - Violencia English & Spanish version available. Violencia is Hardcore band based out of Tijuana, Mexico. I had the pleasure to sit down with them twice to talk about what it’s like for a band to cross the border into the U.S. to play shows. I believe their story should be heard because not many bands are able to to do what they do. From risking their personal security to come to the U.S., to driving countless hours, and overall what it took for the band to be formed in the first place. We also discuss some examples of bands who have tried to cross the border and have been unable to play shows because of legal trouble.
Ep. 106 - Abe Garcia (ADX Studio / Descontrol) Abe is hands down one of my favourite artists born and raised in South Central Los Ángeles. From being in bands, printing T Shirts, making zines, co-owning Descontrol, to recently having opened his own studio, Abehas done a lot for the Los Angeles Punk community. I had the pleasure to sit down and talk to Abe in his brand new studio in Boyle Heights. We discuss what it was like growing up in South Central and what’s going on in his life today. Ep. 103 - Josef Alfonso (Sunami, Big Boy, Field of Flames, Condition One) Josef is the multi instrumentalist mastermind behind 80% of Bay Area Hardcore bands. From being a part of Ex Youth to being in one of the biggest hardcore bands in the world while still having DIY ethics - I was intrigued and asked some personal questions. Ep. 100 - Kie Kie is a photographer/artist based out of Mid City Los Angeles. I interviewed Kie a little over 2 years ago and has since been in and out of prison. I am grateful to have sat down with Kie in his home to talk about surviving prison, adjusting to life back home, and what it was like knowing he was going to leave his family. Kie is now back home continuing to create art and pursue his passion for photography. This is a powerful conversation that I truly believe is a testament of hope. Ep. 92 - Sam (Mortal Wound, Kommand, Lake of Blood) Sam and I sit down at his lock out in San Pedro California. Ep. 91 - Andres (Nature World Inc.) Andres has been running Nature World for 10 years. South Central born and raised Andres runs a successful brand while throwing music events with different music genres. His events have hosted acts such as Souilja Boy, Trash Talk, No Warning, Lil Peep, and Turnstile. I was intrigued to meet Peet through his brand “Biased”, people throughout various scenes such as hardcore, powerviolence, rock Biased gear. Peet also produces and creates beats - some of his beats are included in Gulch’s debut EP and an interlude in Big Boy’s demo.
