'John-Son Seals Comeback' Mar 03, 2024

Show notes

Host Ricky Sacks is joined by returning panellists Broadcaster Russ Williams, Actor TJ Ramini and Sport Italia Pundit Simone Dell'Uomo as Tottenham boosted their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League by staging a dramatic late comeback to beat Crystal Palace.

Ange Postecoglou's side were heading for back-to-back defeats after Eberechi Eze's opener until two goals in three second-half minutes turned the game around. Timo Werner scored his first goal for the club by converting Brennan Johnson's cross in the 78th minute before Cristian Romero headed in James Maddison's cross in the 80th.

Captain Son Heung-min swept home a minute from time to seal the three points, moving his side to within two points of fourth-placed Aston Villa. Werner had failed to convert when played clean through in a forgettable first half in which the hosts failed to break down Palace's stubborn defence.

Eze's sweetly-struck free-kick put the visitors ahead in the 59th minute and there were grumbles from the home fans as chances were missed early in the second. But, to their credit, Spurs stuck to their task to inflict a first defeat on Palace manager Oliver Glasner.

Show notes

Host Ricky Sacks is joined by co-host Lee McQueen alongside returning special guest John Greechan, author of Revolution: Ange Postecoglou: The Man, the Methods and the Mastery.

We discuss Ange's start to the season at Spurs. Where are we in terms of the project compared to other club's he has previously managed and what the future holds for Spurs under Postecoglou.

John's book Revolution charts the dramatic story of Postecoglou’s instant impact on British football with Celtic and explores his life and times in the sport, through the eyes of those who know him best. Could a track record in Australian, Japanese and Scottish football transfer to the unique landscape of the English game? Would a man without a playing track record in Europe command the respect of a dressing room packed with international stars?

Examining the traits that set him apart from his playing peers and the coaching education that has prepared him for his biggest challenge, Revolution provides an insight into the making of a man and the unique football philosophy that has reinvigorated teams and transformed playing styles at a succession of clubs across the globe.

'Wolves Stun Sloppy Spurs!' Feb 18, 2024

Show notes

Host Ricky Sacks is joined by Richard Cracknell, Russ Williams and Marcus Buckland as Spurs ended a five-game winning run at home in the league with a 2-1 defeat to Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The visitors went ahead just before half-time when Gomes was left unmarked eight yards out and rose well to powerfully head home Pablo Sarabia's right-wing corner. But Tottenham made it 1-1 after only 34 seconds of the second half. Wolves failed to clear a Spurs throw-in and Dejan Kulusevski ran past Craig Dawson and prodded the ball through Jose Sa's legs.

Tottenham had fought back after conceding the first goal to beat Brentford and Brighton in their past two home games and Kulusevski had two chances to put the hosts in front this time. However, Sa made an excellent save low down to his left and Nelson Semedo blocked a goalbound effort to keep it level. Those squandered chances proved significant as Wolves sprang a quick counter-attack with Pedro Neto pulling the ball back for Gomes to side-foot home what proved to be the winning goal. The hosts pushed for a late leveller, but Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies missed chances late on as the visitors held on for the victory.

'John-Son's Late, Late Show' Feb 11, 2024

Show notes

Host Ricky Sacks is joined by returning regular panellists Russ Williams, TJ Ramini and Darren Altman as Brennan Johnson scored deep into additional time to deliver a come-from-behind Premier League victory for Tottenham against Brighton. Brighton's Pascal Gross opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Danny Welbeck had been fouled by Micky van de Ven, sending goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way. Tottenham responded well to falling behind, creating a raft of chances, but Jason Steele made several good saves to deny the in-form Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski, while James Maddison curled narrowly wide.

The momentum remained firmly in Spurs' favour when the second half got under way with Rodrigo Bentancur, Maddison and Timo Werner attempting efforts at goal as the majority of the action took place deep in Brighton territory. They continued to probe and that pressure eventually told when Sarr latched on to a lovely through ball from Kulusevski before finishing at the second attempt after his initial shot was deflected on to the post. Captain Son Heung-min was introduced after the equaliser, making his first appearance of 2024 for Spurs after returning from duty with South Korea at the Asian Cup, and the forward had a major hand in the winning goal as he laid the ball across goal for Johnson to convert.

Show notes

Host Ricky Sacks is joined by returning guests to Richard Cracknell, Jason McGovern and Vass Koni from the Dr Tottenham Podcast as Jarrad Branthwaite scored a stoppage-time equaliser to earn Everton a 2-2 draw with Tottenham that moves his team out of the relegation zone.

Richarlison had twice put Spurs in front against his former club in the first half as Jack Harrison's goal appeared to have been in vain. But Sean Dyche's side conjured up an unlikely point thanks to Branthwaite's rescue act in the 94th minute.
