Week 2 NFL Film Room Takeaways Sep 19, 2023

Show notes

Week 2 is extremely important in the NFL, as teams can quickly begin to hinder their playoff chances by starting out 0-2. A few teams that entered this season as Super Bowl contenders are facing that reality, while some others — like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Atlanta Falcons — that began the year as underdogs are surprisingly undefeated after two weeks. Will Baker Mayfield and the Bucs build off their early momentum? And how concerned should we be about Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals?

Initial Film Room Review of NFL Week 2 Sep 18, 2023

Show notes

We give you a Film Room Review on all the NFL games from Sunday, breaking down initial thoughts on what we uncovered when watching the games inside the Landry Football Lab. See what a trained eye saw in each of the matchups and make sure that you check back for a more detailed Film Room breakdown once the tape is broken down.

From the depths of 60-0 deficit six quarters into their season, and a 21-point third-quarter hole Sunday in Arizona, the Giantssuddenly, improbably, have life. The 49ers have somehow won nine straight in the regular season over the Rams.

And Sean Payton and the Broncos — after blowing a 21-3 lead to the Commanders, then nearly tying the score with a 50-yard Hail Mary from Russell Wilson to Brandon Johnson as time expired — are now 0-2.

Here’s what we learned from the afternoon slate of Week 2:

Go Inside the Film Room for a preview of week 3 College action Sep 15, 2023

Show notes

The first two weeks of college football have undoubtedly lived up to the hype, treating fans to a plethora of exhilarating games and jaw-dropping upsets. As we approach week 3, you might look at the weekend slate and consider it a down week. However, in the realm of college football’s unpredictability, there’s no such thing as a dull week. Here’s a list of matchups that should grab your attention this weekend.

Heading into Week 3 of college football, the weekend slate doesn’t appear to be as appetizing as most this fall. There are no matchups pitting nationally-ranked teams and most of the perceived title contenders play teams they should beat by several touchdowns. But the unexpected is what make college football great and an upset or two on Saturday would certainly changed well-established narratives in the early going.

Tennessee-Florida marks the SEC opener for both teams while Colorado’s home bout against Colorado State is what separates the Buffs from a 3-0 and enhanced national spotlight. Top-ranked Georgia is hoping not to get tripped up by South Carolina in Athens and Penn State’s be careful game at Illinois is worth keeping an eye on.

5 Teams that have concerns after Week 1 in NFL Sep 14, 2023

Show notes

I always hated losing the regular season opener because it puts tremendous pressure on winning in Week 2 to avoid starting the season 0-2.

The NFL season is a roller coaster, and it’s never good to start 0-1 and see divisional foes get an early leg up in the standings, even if the logical view is there are 16 games left to catch up.

Upsets usually fill Week 1, and there were plenty last week. Most notable were six playoff teams from last season who lost as favorites, four at home — the Kansas City Chiefs, Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Chargers — and the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills, who lost on the road.

The New York Giants were the seventh. They were a three-point underdog but were embarrassed at home, 40-0, by the Dallas Cowboys.

Here’s my ranking of which teams should be worried most after their Week 1 defeat. I’ll eliminate the Chargers and Bills from this discussion since they had close losses. The Chargers lost by just two points, and the Bills almost won despite Josh Allen‘s four turnovers.

The 5-Star Players have fared well in Transfer Portal Recently Sep 14, 2023

Show notes

Most five-star prospects land at a handful of programs, but there are a select few that choose to go off the beaten path.

With that in mind, we are taking a look at some of the recent five-star recruits who have decided to go off the beaten path to play for a school that does not typically land prospects of that caliber and how they fared. The hit rate for these players has been terrific: Of the nine players on this list who have finished their college careers, seven were picked in the first two days of the NFL Draft, including five first-rounders!

Here’s a look.

Replacing a Franchise QB in NFL after injury & what are Jets options Sep 13, 2023

Show notes

The Jets lost their starting quarterback for the season on Monday night. Everyone wanted to know, “What are we going to do now?” As a general manager, you have to get over the initial shock of losing your starting quarterback. In the case of the Jets, they have a championship-caliber defense, the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year and a strong run game.

Jets general manager Joe Douglas and company worked the entire offseason to assemble this roster. A roster, they felt, gave them the best chance to contend for a Super Bowl this year.

So, what are the team’s next steps?
