How serious are the Eagles problems on Offense ? Dec 23, 2023

Show notes

Think about all the Philadelphia Eagles’ worst moments on offense from Monday night’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

On the game’s second drive, Jalen Hurts chucked it deep on second-and-5 to DeVonta Smith for an incompletion. That was followed by a false start and another incompletion, sending the punt team on. Series over.

Two drives later, their two-minute drive attempt stalled out with three straight incompletions.

More of the same haunted the Eagles out of the half. They called three straight passes on their first drive of the third quarter, only gaining yardage on a second down scramble by Hurts. The other two plays were incompletions to Dallas Goedert and Kenneth Gainwell.

Hurts threw an interception on a first-and-10 shot play to Quez Watkins on the next drive early in the fourth quarter, killing a drive where they were nearly at midfield in a 17-13 game.

Seemingly at random, the Eagles just kept getting away from the run game. All of their scoring drives were slogs that required run after run after run to trudge down the field. Yet, they often abandoned that identity in favor of a passing game that lacks a consistent heartbeat.

Are the Ravens the team to beat in the AFC ? Dec 22, 2023

Show notes

The AFC has never been weaker. The Kansas City Chiefs have significant problems on offense, especially at receiver. The Buffalo Bills, even after a win over the Dallas Cowboys in Week 15, are in real danger of not making the postseason (Currently seeded ninth in the AFC). And the Miami Dolphins have yet to have an impressive win this season (0-3 against teams over .500). Plus, we’ve seen several franchise quarterbacks go down in the AFC, including Joe Burrow (Bengals), Justin Herbert (Chargers), Aaron Rodgers (Jets), and Deshaun Watson (Browns).

The Baltimore Ravens are the best team in the AFC, and this year’s version might be the best of the Lamar Jackson era. Heading into Sunday Night Football, the Ravens held a 10-3 record but needed to take care of the Jaguars in Jacksonville to hold onto the No. 1 spot in the AFC. Not only did they win, but they absolutely dominated another playoff-caliber team.

College Football Recruiting Signing Day Winners & Losers Dec 21, 2023

Show notes

There’s never any such thing as putting a bow on Signing Day. As we exit Day 1 of the Early Signing Period, there are still signatures to sweat over, announcements in store and surprises surely on the horizon. But we think we’ve seen enough of the dust settling to lay out some programs trending up and trending down.

This is a twist on the traditional Winners and Losers article, which was difficult to properly quantify as some schools could have a bad day but a great class, and perhaps even vice versa. Instead, this is a comprehensive view of how we are viewing the trajectory of programs as they put an exclamation mark on their 2024 recruiting cycle, with a ton of movement still to come in the transfer portal.

Results from the 2023 season weigh heavily in our selections and it’s pretty simple. Are we buying stock in this program, or selling it?

The Best Players emaining in the Transfer Portal heading into signing day Dec 20, 2023

Show notes

More than half of college football’s top-20 transfer portal entries remain uncommitted as of Monday morning, and the Early Signing Period begins in two days. The latest top-end transfer to announce his decision was former South Carolina wideout Antwane Wells, who heads to Ole Miss. That puts Lane Kiffin’s transfer haul No. 1 nationally and there are several big-names the Rebels could still sign.

With four of the top-five quarterbacks still undecided, those are the next major dominoes to fall. Another name to watch is USC quarterback and former five-star Malachi Nelson, who is expected to enter the portal and immediately ranks among the best available. With the Trojans recently hosting Kansas State’s Will Howard on a visit, it appears Nelson has a decision to make.

With the early signing period commencing Wednesday, teams must decide how many scholarship spots to keep open on their respective rosters for transfer fill-ins. Roster management is paramount this month with so many high-end, proven players still available.

Here are the 15 best-available transfers as of Dec. 18:

. A Look at where the Top Remaining Uncommited Prospects are headed Dec 19, 2023

Show notes

College football’s early signing period begins Wednesday and a number of impressive athletes remain uncommitted, though that number is dwindling with the onslaught of transfer portal additions in the new era of roster building.

This time a year ago, eight of the top-40 players in the country remained uncommitted heading into the early period, but that number is down to only one for the 2024 class. Flip watch is always major storyline to watch this week among committed prospects possibly wavering on their final decision. One of those is five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola, a Georgia commit who comes off a weekend visit to Nebraska. There’s a strong chance the nation’s No. 2 player this cycle could change his decision.

With more transfers than ever before this recruiting cycle, schools inside the top 25 national rankings are having to weigh experience and need-filling over freshman talent when scholarships are considered.

Here are the 10 highest-rated players who are uncommitted heading into the recruiting calendar’s biggest week of the year:

The Most impactful transfer portal players this past season Dec 16, 2023

Show notes

With how central the NCAA transfer portal has become to roster building in college football, any respectable team will feature at least a couple of key transfers — if not 10 to 15. Among this year’s College Football Playoff teams, two are led by transfer quarterbacks. And all four effectively utilized the portal to build their rosters.

The portal is not going anywhere, and the NFL Draft’s early rounds are going to be littered with former transfers on a regular basis moving forward. If one created a fantasy team solely from transfers, it would be one of the top teams in the sport.

Colorado, Miami, Florida State and Oregon are among the teams that grabbed headlines last offseason for their splashy use of the transfer portal. But did their efforts pay off in the long run?
