The 30: The Lakers even up their series agains the Houston Rockets. With Anthony Irwin Sep 07, 2020
    Show notes

In this episode Anthony and Jas breakdown the Los Angeles Lakers 117-109 win over the Houston Rockets to even up their series at 1-1. The guys discuss what the Lakers did differently from the opener to smother the Rockets' high-octane offense, and how they controlled the pace of the game. Anthony and Jas then get into how the Lakers forced Russell Westbrook to try and beat them, rather than letting James Harden run wild. Then, the guys share their thoughts on Anthony Davis' performance, and if he is settling for too many jumpers. After the break, Anthony and Jas discuss what adjustments the Lakers made on the defensive end and if the Rockets are going to be able to make this a long series. To wrap things up, the guys discuss the Giannis Antetokounmpo drama, and if he will stay with the Milwaukee Bucks. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

I Love Basketball: Breaking down the second round with Harden My Take Sep 04, 2020
    Show notes

The Lakers are about to take on Houston in the second round of the playoffs, so Sabreena joined Jeremy Brener and Michael Brown of “Harden My Take”, an SB Nation Rockets podcast, to preview the matchup. They go over what makes this series so interesting, starting with the general stylistic clash between L.A. playing big and Houston’s small ball. They then move into the specific matchups, including which star duo — LeBron James and Anthony Davis or James Harden and Russell Westbrook — will be more successful, followed by Twitter questions, and then finish with their series predictions. Are the Rockets or Thunder a bigger threat to the Lakers? Sep 01, 2020
    Show notes

With the Houston Rockets losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night, the Los Angeles Lakers won’t know who they’re playing in the next round of the NBA playoffs until Wednesday night. So instead of previewing one opponent, our latest podcast has to dig in to two very different possibilities. But before they did that, hosts Harrison Faigen and Anthony Irwin took a moment to laugh at the Milwaukee Bucks showing their flaws in Game 1 of their second-round matchup against the Miami Heat, and rant a bit about how ridiculous NBA awards voting can sometimes look after the playoffs begin. Should we start to value those accolades differently historically as a result? Then, after a short break, Anthony and Harrison discussed the Lakers’ two possible second-round opponents. They got into which one they see as a bigger threat to Los Angeles, what the relative strengths and weaknesses of the Rockets and Thunder are in a series against the Lakers, how the teams fared against each other over the course of this season, and why they both think that a bit too much is being made of the threat level of both opponents (in particular the Rockets). Finally, Anthony got into his theory on the reason for this constant hyping of the Lakers’ opponents, and it actually makes quite a bit of sense. Especially when we just did this whole song and dance with the Portland “Best Eighth Seed Ever” Trail Blazers, and, well, we all saw how that one turned out. NBA player strike puts playoff future in jeopardy Aug 27, 2020
    Show notes

On Wednesday afternoon, the Milwaukee Bucks decision to not take the floor for their scheduled Game 5 meeting with the Orlando Magic kickstarted a movement that quickly picked up steam the rest of the day. Within hours, the rest of Wednesday's playoff games, including the Lakers-Blazers Game 5 contest, were canceled as players across the league united in a strike. By night's end, a meeting with the players and coaches inside the bubble led to LeBron James, the Lakers and the Clippers to voting to boycott the remainder of the playoffs. With the league's Board of Governor's set to meet at 11 a.m. on Thursday, the same time as a second meeting between the players, the season's future seems in serious doubt. Anthony and Jacob got together after everything played out on Wednesday to talk through how the day's events unfolded and how we got to this point. They also discussed what's at stake for the players, how the onus is now on the owners to take action and why Wednesday was the pinnacle of the player empowerment era. The 30: The Lakers blow out the Trail Blazers to take a 3-1 series lead. With Anthony Irwin. Aug 25, 2020
    Show notes

To kick things off, Anthony and Jas breakdown the Los Angeles Lakers 135-115 win over the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4 to take a 3-1 lead in the series. The guys discuss LeBron James' masterful performance, and how he dominated right from the opening tip. Then, Anthony and Jas get into what the Lakers have done differently over the last three games since losing the opener. Following that, the guys talk about how Los Angeles overwhelmed Portland in the first quarter, and how Frank Vogel has made adjustments over the first four games. After the break, Anthony and Jas get into the other NBA playoff series, and how the L.A. Clippers look sluggish against the Dallas Mavericks, and what it could mean in a potential matchup against the Lakers. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Are the Blazers frauds? Aug 23, 2020
    Show notes

The Lakers once again convincingly beat the Trail Blazers on Saturday night to take a 2-1 series lead over Portland, and host Harrison Faigen (@hmfaigen) was joined by Keith Parish of Fastbreak Breakfast (@fastbreakbreak) to discuss the series so far, and how the Lakers are doing. Were the Blazers overrated? How much should we make of the Lakers' struggles? They got into all that -- as well as regrettable bets, the times Kobe has torn Keith's heart out, the Pelicans being frauds -- and a whole lot more on the latest episode of the Silver Screen and Roll podcast.
