Show notes

Even in the offseason, you can barely take a week off. The Max + Vince Podcast is back to take you through a ton of LAFC news. We had transfers, trades, even the MLS scheduled dropped, and, of course, the MLS Expansion Draft. First up, it's the big news. LAFC midfielder Eduard Atuesta is on his way to Palmeiras in Brazil. The Colombian was a pivotal player for LAFC since his arrival in 2018. He joins the back-to-back Copa Libertadores champions. Max and Vince break down the move for Atuesta and LAFC, and the guys talk about what it will take to replace him. Then it's more roster moves. The 2021 MLS Expansion Draft went down and LAFC was a focal point. Tristan Blackmon was selected by expansion side Charlotte FC. But LAFC also gained a player, trading for Ismael Tajouri-Shradi, Charlotte's 5th pick of the draft. Max and Vince go over all the comings and goings before going over the 2022 MLS Schedule - a lot of exciting away days incoming for LAFC supporters. We wrap the episode and the 2021 MVP season with an MVP guest - Tom Bogert of MLSsoccer.com joins Max and Vince. Tom is the go-to guy for transfer news around MLS. His scoops have become legendary around these parts. Max + Vince Podcast #117 - The End Of 2021 & The Biggest Offseason In LAFC History Nov 09, 2021

Show notes

Max and Vince wanted to start off by thanking all the listeners (and viewers) of the podcast during the 2021 season. LAFC may have come up short in its pursuit of a playoff spot but it's been awesome doing this show for all of you this season and meeting many of you at matches, tailgates, away trips, or around Los Angeles. We're not totally finished for 2021 but we'll be taking a few weeks off. Then we'll do our best to bring you any offseason news and reactions as they happen. Now to the match. LAFC was always going to be up against it, needing a win and some help. They conceded the first goal to Jonathan Lewis and after a huge miss from the normally reliable Chicho Arango, things unraveled from there. Max and Vince break down what Colorado did to wrestle control of the match from LAFC and how the Black & Gold play on the edge led to the high score. That brings us to the offseason. LAFC has a considerable amount of big decisions to make. The guys give their takes on where they think LAFC is leaning and what might be the path to righting the club in 2022.

Max + Vince Podcast #116 - Everything But The Finishing Touch & LAFC Still Alive Nov 03, 2021

Show notes

Here are the facts. LAFC fell short against the Vancouver Whitecaps in a match they needed to win to control their own destiny. The 1-1 draw now puts LAFC's playoff hopes in jeopardy. They need a win on the last day of the season and a few results to go their way. Now to the show. Max and Vince go through the match against Vancouver. Carlos Vela had more than a cameo but the team couldn't find the finishing touch it needed. Is that a good or a bad sign for the match with the Rapids? The guys also go through all the playoff scenarios and give their thoughts on who might start in the final match of the season.

Max + Vince Podcast #115 - All To Play For Oct 25, 2021

Show notes

We've got a lot to talk about. But we have to do it quickly because LAFC is back in action on Tuesday. Max and Vince were in the 110 Football studios on Monday to break down LAFC's long road trip... well, after they stopped talking about movies, music, pop culture, and anything else that came to mind. But once they got to the football, they started with the comeback win in Dallas. LAFC was fortunate but the quality of Chicho Arango lifted them in a desperate moment. Then it was off to Minnesota for a huge six-pointer. LAFC suffered through much of the match without the ball but Max and Vince talk about how it might have been Minnesota that walked away the more disappointed of the two teams. That sets up a pivotal match with Seattle on Tuesday at Banc. The guys talk about what LAFC will need to do against Seattle and go over the race for spots four through seven in the Western Conference - just five points separate 4th from 9th place in the West, it's going to be a wild finish.

Max + Vince Podcast #114 - One Down, Five To Go In LAFC's Playoff Chase Oct 19, 2021

Show notes

The #SeasonWithinTheSeason kicked off this past weekend. LAFC did its part with a 3-1 win over San Jose. But the Black & Gold didn't get any help this time around, as it remains four points adrift of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Max and Vince are here to break down the win over San Jose. It was a stellar first half for the Black & Gold. Danny Musovski started the scoring, forming a great partnership with Chicho Arango up top. Despite squandering a few chances, LAFC finished the half up 2-0. Max and Vince talk about the top performers from the half and what they liked about LAFC's approach to the match. The second half was a bit nervy after the Earthquakes cut the lead to 2-1. But Brian Rodriguez, fresh off a plane from Brazil, sealed the match with a great run and assist to Chicho. We talk about what the win means as all the teams ahead of LAFC also picked up 3 points. Then it's a look ahead to a long road trip and two quick matches in succession in Dallas and Minnesota. LAFC will need to continue a near-perfect run to keep pace with the rest of the challengers in the West. And of course, Vince and Max have their normal detours into pop culture, including a chat about horror movies. Please rate, review, and share!

Max + Vince Podcast #113 - #SeasonWithinTheSeason with Special Guests Jordan Harvey & Jamal Blackman Oct 13, 2021

Show notes

It's simple. Four points separate LAFC from the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Six matches in 23 days will determine the fate of the Black & Gold's 2021 season. Max and Vince are back to give you the details of LAFC's #SeasonWithinTheSeason from the Nectar Performance Center. After a brief chat about what it will take to reach the playoffs and the teams LAFC is vying with, Max and Vince bring on a couple of special guests. First, LAFC veteran from Day 1, Jordan Harvey joins the guys. The defender tells us what life is like in the LAFC locker room right now, how the guys are feeling ahead of a pressure-packed 6 weeks, and why they don't pay too much attention to what people are saying on the outside. After Jordan, we speak with LAFC's newest goalkeeper. Jamal Blackman joins the show to talk about his experience joining the team more than midway through the season. He also schools us on some goalkeeper analysis and the different styles of goalkeeping. Don't forget to rate, review, and share the podcast. We'll be back next week after the San Jose match.

Max + Vince Podcast #112 - All Things Derby On & Off The Pitch Oct 05, 2021

Show notes

Max is back and we're not holding anything back. We cover the derby from before kickoff to after the final whistle. Max and Vince breakdown the incredible support that followed the Black & Gold to Dignity Health Sports Park. Over two hours before the match, LAFC had around 650 supporters, arriving in 13 buses, clad in all-black inside the stadium. The buzz that surrounded the match between the Galaxy and LAFC never disappoints. The match? That was a little bit different. Max and Vince share their thoughts on what went right and what went wrong in a 1-1 draw that really doesn't help either team. After that, the focus is on the "season within the season." LAFC has six matches remaining, the guys talk about what it will take to reach the playoffs. Then it's on to a more serious topic - things going too far in a rivalry. After the final whistle, Max and Vince share what they saw and offered a stern message to those that think that is passion in a rivalry. It's our hope the clubs and fans will work together to keep the passion of the rivalry on the pitch and through active support, not through violence. Finally, we're talking the international break. Yes, it's back. We don't love it but at least we're not playing any matches through it!

Show notes

We're calling this the MVP + C podcast this week. Max Bretos is away this week but keeping his seat warm is 110 Football's Connor Kalopsis. Fear not! Even with Max gone, Vince takes Connor on many off-topic rants. But we're mainly focused on the bad run of form LAFC finds itself in ahead of the derby. Why have the last two losses hurt so much? Are the playoffs out of reach? And would a win over the Galaxy make it all better? Vince and Connor discuss all those topics along with their most hated MLS players, what they think is going to happen against the Galaxy, and why you can never totally eliminate mistakes but goals can cover them up.
