Our guest this week has been a Legend in the Surf Scene for Decades. From shaping his first board at 17 years old, he now has 55 years of experience working with some of the world’s best Surfers. From his proprietary board designs of high performance shapes and specialized Big Wave Guns, he continues to push the evolution in board design, performance, and construction using sustainable materials and practices. He has also been a huge contributor to competitive surfing as a judge, former president of the ASP, and founder of The Big Wave World Tour. To this day he continues to be involved in organizing events and lending his commentary expertise at Big-Wave events each year! We are honored to sit down with this Big Wave Charger, Pioneer, Waterman, and Iconic Shaper Mr. Gary “WHITEY” Linden.

Our guest this week got his start in the industry working at Quiksilver wetsuits, and Surfside Sports. After graduating from UC Santa Barbara in 2005 he went on to work for Lost Enterprises from 2006 to 2016 - helping to build the label into the largest surfboard brand in the world. His duties included website/social media content manager, surf team manager and producing/filming/editing Lost video content. Accolades include 2009 Surfer Poll Awards “Best Movie” nominee for 5’5″ x 19 1/4 REDUX, 2012 Transworld Surf Awards “Best Series” for Ward Stories and the 2016 “Best Series” Surfer Poll Award for License To Chill and more recently Directed “Through the Doggie Door” movie about Mason & Sheldon’s relationship and brotherhood. His Media company Alani Media has worked with many Industry and Global Brands. This is Take 2 with a couple of updates about “The Couch Surfing Show” and with Sheldon Paishon calling in to talk about the documentary “Through the Doggy Door”. You most likely have worn one of his designs at some point. Then relocated to Australia in 2010 to take a Senior Designer position at Billabong. He’s been in Australia ever since as a RVCA Design Director for 6 years, and the last 5 years up to present day as Menswear Designer at Thrills. They offer incredible customer service, in-house hand shapes as well as on-site ding repairs, beach rentals, snow board tune-ups/repairs and much more. This Husband and Wife duo surf most mornings together before opening the shop and are Regatta enthusiasts, racing sail boats , but really any type of boat they can get on, and still spend more days than most people in a season on the mountain Snowboarding! When results didn’t come, he went against the traditional Brazilian Pro Surfer Model and turned towards Free-Surfing. Which was crazy to consider as there are very few that are making a living at it especially in Brazil! But, if you have seen him Surf, it makes perfect sense! His smooth style, power, and flow combined with his air game and high-performance approach, is very pleasing to the eye!
