Garet Mcleandon | Fighting For Sobriety, Faith, Being A Present Father And Service To Others Feb 25, 2024
    Show notes

Join me, Jason LaChance host of the @KnockinDoorzDown certified addiction recovery coach, and mental health advocate for my sit down with a fellow brother in recovery, Garet Mclendon.

Garet’s struggles with addiction and trouble with the law almost seemed inevitable. Growing up in a broken home, in which his mother was an addict. Running with the wrong crowd was commonplace and this led to experimenting with different substances and eventually dropping out of School. He would become a full-blown meth and heroin addict. He was sometimes taking his young daughter with him to score or deal. After stints in jail, prison, and a couple of treatment facilities. Garet transformed his life and had a spiritual awakening that led him to long-term sobriety and a thriving member of society. Garet remains grounded in the AA program and explores what faith means to him. Now a single father who is present with all of his children he strives daily to be of service to others.

Garet and I discuss the following and more.

    Intro 0:00

3 Things Garet Is Grateful For 2:10

What moment led to sobriety? 9:00

How did you stop making excuses for your actions? 16:48

How do you let go of the anger you had in addiction 36:19

The payoff is huge when you do the right thing 50:26

Rene LaChance | My Father And I On Our Family History Of Addiction, Trauma And His Recovery Journey Feb 18, 2024
    Show notes

Join me, Jason LaChance host of the @KnockinDoorzDown certified addiction recovery coach, and mental health advocate for my sit down with my father Rene LaChance.

This conversation was recorded around Christmas of 2022. It is by far the most personal and most difficult conversation I have ever had on the podcast. Recently celebrating 3 years of continual sobriety I finally felt in a place to be able to share this episode.

You will hear the various traumas that my father went through which include mental, emotional, and sexual abuse which led to my father living on his own at the age of 14. His mother and father both had various issues around codependency and sexual addiction and his mother struggled with medication. My dad lost his brother, my uncle, due to overmedicating and passing out, his lit cigarette caught his home on fire.

My dad and my mom married when he was only 17, and eventually, when his brain matured around 26, issues started to arise. Now sober for over 20 years my dad wanted to share his journey offering hope to others that they can overcome whatever adversity they've faced.

We discuss the following and more.

How did generational trauma play out in our family? 2:40

    Getting Married At 17? 10:54

Working Hard Is All I knew, I was alone at 14. 28:17

No outside solutions to Inside Problems 39:27

How did you maintain long-term sobriety? 53:56

This is my dad, Rene Lachance Knockin’ Doorz Down.

Michael Unbroken | Success Is Paying Your Dues, Breaking Victim Mentality & Building A Life You Want Jan 28, 2024
    Show notes

Join me, Jason LaChance host of the @KnockinDoorzDown podcast, certified addiction recovery coach, and mental health advocate for my sit down with special guest Michael Unbroken @MichaelUnbroken

Michael states, that he didn’t sign up to be the spokesman for survivors of child abuse. The job sucks and he means that.

The truth is that the universe chose Michael for this role. He has been gifted with the ability to navigate the most harsh and vicious child abuse to come out on the other side seemingly whole. He says seemingly because there will always be a part of him that was stolen that he cannot get that back. None of the rage, drugs, sex, rock n’ roll, or anger will give him what was stolen.

The world is both beautiful and brutal and Michael has seen the best and the worst of it. He knows that the abuse he suffered has given him an undeniable strength that he was only able to tap into after falling face-first into complete darkness.

There is truth in understanding that Mindset is Everything. There are no shortcuts, trust Michael he tried them all. There is hard work and on the backside of that is getting your life back.

We discuss the following and more.

    Intro 00:00

People think genius comes naturally, I've done my 10,000 hours. 4:00

I needed to leave my environment. 10:30

Most of your friendships are liabilities, not assets. 12:30
