Can the Jem'Hadar and Sisko and friends work together? Sure, but there is a little dust up between Worf and Toman'torax that leads to some "discipline" being doled out, and let's just say - you wouldn't want to be a certain Jem'Hadar that day.

135: Officer's Mess: Crew Questions Apr 15, 2025

Show notes

HamTron's Questions (Posted 4/1/2025, 11:31 AM)

Opening Context: "With the age of franchises like Star Trek and Star Wars, different shows and films have come out which really push up against the edges of the tone and genre set by the foundational entries in the series. Things like Andor and the straight action movie JJ Abrams Trek come to mind. I'm curious what you all think about this."
Core Questions:
- "Can something be called Star Trek, but be so far from the tonal or genre core that it no longer feels like trek?"
- "Are these places more like playgrounds that, once built, are free to explore and tell any story in, regardless of if it feels close to the 'source'?"
- "Does a show like Andor benefit at all from being in the Star Wars universe, instead of all those people involved just making a new science fiction rebellion show which is not connected to any preexisting thing?"
- "Are storytellers just 'skinning' things in existing ip when they could have maybe tried to stand on their own?"

Jesse E's Questions (Posted 4/1/2025, 11:54 AM)

Opening Context: "A broad discussion of the evolution of the trek franchise would be interesting."
Core Questions:
- "How closely does it run in parallel to Roddenberry's original vision?"
- "Does it still resonate with modern audiences in its current form and create new 'trekkies' or is it falling flat in some way?"
- "Does Roddenberry's original vision even matter, really?"
- "Ultimately, is it still being made for the fans or has it tilted into heavily commercialized territory like Star Wars?"
Comparison Note: "It's tough to really compare the two franchises in a fair way but some level of it is unavoidable."
Philosophical Push: "Get philosophical on me!"
