In the quiet, idyllic suburb of Kensington, Maryland, a story unfolds that would shatter the tranquility of a close-knit community. The Lyon family, led by the father John, a familiar voice on WMAL Radio, and his wife Mary, seemed to epitomize the American dream. They had three children: an older son, Jay, who would later follow a path into law enforcement as a homicide detective, and two daughters, Katherine and Sheila...

The Daylight Cat Burglar: Pipino and the Madonna Col Bambino - PART III Jan 12, 2024
    Show notes

In the cheery ambiance of the prison visiting room, Vincenzo Pipino, the seasoned art thief now turned inmate, sat contemplating his next move. He gently tapped the side of his espresso cup, a thoughtful gesture that hinted at his strategic mind. Breaking the silence with a caveat, he leaned forward and said, "This is a hypothetical story," emphasizing that the tale he was about to unfold might blur the lines between fact and fiction, a hallmark of his storytelling style...Find out what finally happened in this concluding episode of, "The Daylight Catburglar"...Only on Kinda Murdery!

The Daylight Cat Burglar: Pipino and the Madonna Col Bambino - PART II Jan 08, 2024
    Show notes

On that fateful day of October 9, 1991, Vincenzo Pipino blended seamlessly with the throng of tourists at the Ducale Palace. The palace, now a museum, stood as a proud reminder of the Venetian Republic's glory. Pipino, with the practiced ease of a man well-versed in the art of deception, followed the tour group through the grandeur of the palace. Surrounded by the trappings of a once-mighty empire, he was acutely aware of the contrast between the opulence of the palace and the grim reality of the adjoining prison, famously connected by the Bridge of Sighs. Here, he was no stranger, his previous visits having laid the groundwork for what he was about to undertake. As the tour progressed into the prison, the shift from marble to limestone marked a transition to a darker chapter in the palace's history. Here, Pipino saw his opportunity. He let the group move ahead, and in the shadowy corridors, he slipped into a cell, the heavy door closing behind him...

The Daylight Cat Burglar: Pipino and the Madonna Col Bambino Jan 05, 2024
    Show notes

Through the lens, Pipino's gaze traversed the grandeur of Venice. First, there was the Palazzo Barozzi, a testament to Baroque elegance and a repository of stolen art, thanks to deals with individuals like Pipino. Then, his eyes settled on the Ca’ Dario, its marble facade leaning ominously, a palazzo as famous for its curse as for its art. Owners of this building had faced dire fates - murder, madness, or financial ruin. But it was another location that captured Pipino's keen interest – a centuries-old palazzo across the Grand Canal, a testament to the opulence of its owner, Raul Gardini, one of Italy's wealthiest men. Pipino assessed the building meticulously, noting the skylight forty feet above a secluded alley, the crumbling brick façade, the brittle roof tiles. A perilous climb, certainly, but for a prize hidden within, it seemed worth the risk...

Bad Santas: The 12 Worst, Real-Life, Shopping Mall Santas Dec 22, 2023
    Show notes

Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays to all. Join Zevon as we delve into the world of "The 12 Worst Real Life Shopping Mall Santas," where the line between humor and horror blurs, and the iconic figure of jolly old Saint Nick takes on a more sinister hue.
This episode will lead listeners down a chilling path, unveiling the darker side Father Christmas. Picture this: The holiday season, a time of twinkling lights and merry songs, where children's laughter rings through festively decorated malls. Here, Santa Claus sits enthroned, a symbol of joy and generosity. But not all Santas embody the spirit of the season. In this episode, we expose the underbelly of this festive tradition, where some who don the red suit are far from the benevolent figures we expect. Including:

    1. Gropey Claus
    2. The Krazy Kringle of Woodland Hills
    3. And a couple of Yuletide Monsters that don't deserve a clever title at all...
You have been warned: Not all these "Bad Santa," stories are as funny as the movie staring Billy Bob Thornton.

"The Grither" - The Scariest Christmas Monster You've Never Heard Of... Dec 15, 2023
    Show notes

In that moment, the boundaries between story and reality began to blur. The Grither, a mere legend moments ago, now seemed a palpable threat, its presence looming over the family's Christmas Eve. The children, wrapped in the suspense of their father's tale, were caught between the safety of their cozy living room and the chilling possibility that somewhere, in the dark, frozen reaches of the North Pole, a creature with enormous, listening ears was stirring, drawn inexorably towards the sound of its own name. The room was steeped in the cozy warmth of Christmas Eve, a stark contrast to the chilling tale unfolding within its walls. The father, his eyes glinting with the thrill of the story, leaned closer to Jimbo and Steffa, who were hanging on his every word. "Do you know the origins of the Grither's name?" he asked, his voice a whisper that seemed to blend with the crackling fire...

Teenage, Lesbian, Sex, Murder Kiwis: The True Story of Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme Dec 01, 2023
    Show notes

In the early 1950s, nestled in the serene landscape of New Zealand, a friendship began to blossom under unusual circumstances. Two teenagers, Pauline Parker and Juliet Hulme, found solace in each other's company, their bond forged in the fires of shared adversity. Both struggled with ill health, a plight that isolated them from their peers and the carefree joys of teenage life. Their worlds, once lonely and fragmented, began to intertwine. Pauline and Juliet, in their isolation, became each other's lifeline. No other friends graced their inner circle; it was a duo against the world. This rapid and intense growth of their friendship was akin to a plot in a suspense novel, where every emotion is magnified, every bond a matter of life and death. And yes, that is foreshadowing. In fact, one of the girls, in a case of professional "bad taste," would grow up to be a famous murdery mystery novelist. Listen and find out who!

Sex, Money, Murder AND Zombies: Mormon Mysticism & the Doomsday Death Dealers Nov 17, 2023
    Show notes

Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell saw the world through a binary lens, categorizing people as either "light" or "dark" spirits. This dichotomy wasn't just a philosophical stance; it was a worldview that dictated their perceptions and interactions with those around them. More disturbingly, they introduced a sinister concept into their ideology: the notion of "zombies." In their twisted belief system, individuals taken over by evil spirits were labeled as "zombies". This dehumanization stripped away the individuality and humanity of those they deemed 'infected' by darkness. But the most chilling aspect of their belief was that they claimed the only way to liberate a soul from the clutches of this evil, to free them from their 'zombie' state, was through death. This belief, a grim and fatal remedy, laid the groundwork for a narrative steeped in danger, moral decay, and, of course, murder...
