Jack Smith Has Grand Jury Vote On A NEW INDICTMENT For Donald Trump Aug 30, 2024

In the wake of the horrific Supreme Court opinion granting presidents immunity for committing democracy-busting crimes against the American people, Jack Smith decided to seize the initiative. Rather than waiting until the litigation before Judge Tanya Chukka to sort out the implications of the new Supreme Court ruling, Smith went before a new grand jury, and presented only evidence of Trump's unofficial acts that violated the law - removing from the case Trump's acts that could have run afoul of the Supreme Court ruling - and asked the grand jury to vote out a new indictment.

The good news on the accountability front is that even removing evidence of Trump's "official presidential acts" from the case, the grand jury STILL concluded that there was ample evidence to indict Trump on the same four felonies that appeared in the original indictment.

Glenn does a deep dive in the smart, strategic, and tactical choices by Smith in securing this superseding indictment.

Jack Smith Files Appeal of Judge Cannon's Dismissal of Trump's Case BUT WHY No Motion to Remove Her? Aug 29, 2024

Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed his appeal of Judge Aileen Cannon's dismissal of Donald Trump's classified documents/obstruction of justice/espionage case, urging the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse her lawless ruling. Because Judge Cannon has been found to have abused her discretion and reversed twice previously, many were expecting Smith to FINALLY ask the appeals court to remove her from presiding over Trump's case. When it was discovered that Smith AGAIN declined to seek her removal, social medial exploded with one question: "Why won't Smith seek to disqualify such an obviously biased judge?" As legal analyst Joyce Vance noted in her Civil Discourse newsletter: "Jack Smith's brief is in. Here are a few quick thoughts on what is in the brief, but perhaps of more interest is what isn’t included. Smith did not ask the court to reassign the case to another district judge on remand if he’s successful in the appeal." Glenn discuses the possible reasons for Smith's decisions thus far, and why, if the appeals court reverses Cannon AGAIN, the third time may be the charm.

Jack Smith Appeals Judge Cannon's Dismissal of Trump's Classified Documents Case Aug 28, 2024

Special Counsel Jack Smith has filed an appeal with the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, urging them to REVERSE Judge Aileen Cannon's dismissal of Trump's classified documents/obstruction of justice/espionage case.

Jack Smith made clear that Cannon's dismissal has no legal support and is contrary to all precedent, including precedent from the Supreme Court dating back to the Nixon/Watergate era. As Smith writes, Judge Cannon's dismissal of Trump's case "conflicts with an otherwise unbroken course of decisions, including by the Supreme Court, that the Attorney General has such authority, and it is at odds with widespread and longstanding appointment practices in the Department of Justice and across the government. This Court should reverse."

Glenn goes over the next steps in the process and discusses what happens if Jack Smith wins the appeal and what happens in the (unlikely) event Donald Trump wins the appeal.

NY AG Letitia James Tells Appeals Court to REJECT Trump's Meritless Arguments and Deception Aug 27, 2024

New York Attorney General Letitia James is back in the news as her team files a brief in Donald Trump's appeal of the massive, nearly half-billion dollar civil fraud judgment entered against him.

AG James tells the New York appeals court that Trump's appeal is "awash in meritless legal arguments" and ignores volumes of trial evidence showing that he and his co-defendants engaged in "fraud and illegality on an immense scale."

Glenn reviews this recent court filing by AG James' team as well as the many other current legal woes of Donald Trump.

Kamala Harris For the People; Donald Trump For Himself, His Own Enrichment & To Stay Out Of Prison Aug 26, 2024

The contrast could not be clearer or more consequential.

Vice President Kamala Harris has spent her entire career working for the people. Indeed, when she stood up in court as a prosecutor, she said five words each and every time: "Kamala Harris for the people." Donald Trump has never been motivated by a desire to serve others. It's clear that he pursued the presidency in the name of self-enrichment and self-aggrandizement. And he is again seeing the presidency for this same reasons, AND to stay out of prison. This race is, in a very real sense, between the prosecutor and the criminal. And democracy's future hangs in the balance.

Former Trump Press Secretary Says Trump Has "No Empathy, No Morals" & "Mocks His Own Supporters" Aug 23, 2024

After being a Trump loyalist for years, Including serving as his Press Secretary and describing herself as a de facto Trump family member, Stephanie Grisham addressed the Democratic National Convention and said:

"I saw him (Trump) when the cameras were off. Behind closed doors, Trump mocks his supporters, he calls them basement dwellers. On a hospital visit one time when people were dying in the ICU, he was mad that the cameras were not watching him. He has no empathy, no morals, and no fidelity to the truth. He used to tell me, it doesn't matter what you say Stephanie. Say it enough, and people will believe you."

Glenn reviews Stephanie Grisham's opinions of Trump based on her first-hand experience with him over more than five years, and spending a lot of time watching Trump "behind closed doors."

Grisham took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention and endorsed Kamala Harris for president.

Federal Judge UNDERCUTS Judge Cannon's Dismissal of Trump's Classified Docs Case Aug 22, 2024

As we all know, Judge Aileen Cannon - who was appointed to the federal bench by Donald Trump - ruled that Special Counsel appointments are not lawful and she dismissed Trump's federal classified documents/obstruction of justice/espionage case. In a surprising plot twist, Hunter Biden's lawyers pointed to Judge Cannon's decision and tried to use it to convince another federal judge - Judge Mark Scarsi (who was also appointed by Trump) to dismiss the federal tax case pending against Hunter Biden.

Judge Scarsi has rejected Judge Cannon's ruling and has refused to dismiss Hunter's case, clearly signaling that he thinks Judge Cannon is dead wrong. This is no surprise as every other federal judge who has decided the special counsel issue over the years has affirmed the lawfulness of special counsel appointments, thereby disagreeing with Cannon.

DA Bragg "Defers To" Judge Merchan On Delaying Trump's Sept. 18th Sentencing Date Aug 21, 2024

In a somewhat surprising twist, after winning 34 felony convictions against Donald Trump for his efforts to cheat in the 2016 presidential election by criminally falsifying business records, DA Alvin Bragg's prosecutors have filed a letter with Judge Juan Merchan saying they "defer to the court" on whether Trump's sentencing, (presently set for September 18th), should be delayed until after the election. Why would prosecutors defer to the court on such a weighty issue? There's a clue in the two-page letter prosecutors filed with the court as to what's really driving this unexpected position.

Trump's ABSURD Golf Club Press Conference: Crypto, Cottages and . . . Cheerios? Aug 19, 2024

Donald Trump decided to call a press conference at his exclusive, pricey Bedminster golf club in New Jersey to discuss his economic policies and to convince everyone that he understands the financial challenges of everyday Americans. And then he said, as he picked up a box of Cheerios, "I haven't seen Cheerios in a very long time," and announced he intended to take them "back to his cottage" and "have a lot of fun."

Donald Trump is an imbecile. Glenn says "it's time to vote him out of political life and into the waiting arms of prosecutors and criminal courts where he belongs".
