Growing in Godliness with Nana Dolce Jul 23, 2018
    Show notes

On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I’m chatting with Nana Dolce about growing in godliness. We talked about everything from when we could see traces of our own desire to grow in godliness, to what, or better yet, who, sustains our sanctification today! The only problem with this interview is that the entire thing is quote worthy. I wanted to copy and paste everything Nana said into the intro. But here’s one snippet to give y’all a taste of what’s to come, “Remembering the one who bled for me, who died for me, who resurrected for me, who ascended for me, who is interceding for me. Who has prayed for my sanctification. Jesus prayed for my sanctification. 1 Corinthians says that he is my sanctification. So the one who achieved all of that for me. When I hear passages like that of keeping my eyes on him so that I please him, it motivates me to run!”

Y’all are going to be fist-pumping, dancing, running-around-excited about what God did for us through our justification and what he continues to do in our sanctification every. single. day! Nana also speaks to those of us who feel like we’re watching grass grow when it comes to growing in godliness. I am so thankful to be dancing, crawling, limping, and running with you guys, even at a distance.

So you’ll know her a little better, Nana was born in Ghana. She lives today in Washington D.C. with her husband Eric, and two home-schooled daughters. She has a Master of Arts in Theological Studies and served for nearly seven years as the Director of Outreach for a local church. She has a passion for women's biblical literacy. You can find more from her over at motherhoodandsanctity.com.

Guys, this stands out as one of the most helpful episodes of Journeywomen to date. I am so thankful for Nana’s encouragement to rest in Jesus as he is the founder and perfecter of our faith. You can find the details on everything Nana and I talked about in the show notes at journeywomenpodcast.com. If you want to talk more about the topic of sanctification, you can hop over to Instagram or Facebook. A huge thanks to Chris Mann with podshapter who edited this week’s episode! And lastly, if you’re enjoying these conversations, I’d love it if you’d take a few minutes to leave a rating and review on iTunes!

Shame with Abbey Wedgeworth Jul 16, 2018
    Show notes

On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with my friend Abbey Wedgeworth about shame. We ran the gamut on the topic of shame, moving from questions we can ask ourselves to determine whether or not we are functioning in shame, to how the gospel actually addresses shame. Listen to what she said: “In the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus we see that God is faithful to us because of his love. Not because we’re worthy. So he loves us not because we’re lovable, but we are made lovely because he sets his love on us. He makes us beautiful. In exchange for our shame he offers acceptance, honor, worth, and even glory.” Whew! If you don’t walk away from this episode encouraged, I cannot help you. So you’ll know her a little better, Abbey is a wife, mother, and nap-time writer living in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. She is passionate about helping young moms apply the riches of Christ to the realities of motherhood. You can find her writing on her blog, Risen Motherhood, Unlocking the Bible, and The Gospel Coalition.

I think you now know why I like being friends with Abbey. She has a genuine understanding of the gospel and how it intersects with everyday life and I, personally, want to be like that. If you want to talk more about the topic of shame--and I really think you will, because Abbey is helping us with some of our Instagram content this week-- you can hop over to @journeywomenpodcast on Instagram or Facebook.

Abiding with Christ with Laura Hardin Jul 02, 2018
    Show notes

On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Laura Hardin about abiding in Christ. We talked about everything from what it actually means to abide in Christ to how doing so impacts our lives every day. Listen to what she said, “When I abide in Christ, life is no longer about me, it’s about him, and he always orients me towards others. Through abiding in the Lord, I became enamored by God’s heart for service, that he is the humble servant King. And I want to be like him.”

So you’ll know her a little better, Laura encourages women to abide in Christ by committing themselves to the word of God, prayer, and fellowship. Loving Our Dads Well with Jerrad Lopes Jun 11, 2018
    Show notes

On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Jerrad Lopes, the host of the Dad Tired podcast, about loving the dads in our lives well. I wanted to do this episode in honor of Father’s Day, which is this Sunday if you aren’t tracking! I know many of us have mixed emotions about a day like Father’s Day. While some of us had incredible fathers, others of us didn’t, while still others didn’t even have an opportunity to know their father. Whatever feelings we maintain toward a holiday like this, they can all be overcome by delighting in this reality: we don’t need a perfect earthly father, because we have a perfect heavenly father who adopted us through his son, Jesus. As his daughters, we are the children of a father who is worthy of all celebration! Jerrad did a great job of encouraging us to glorify God this Father’s Day by loving and honoring the men in our lives exactly where they are, no matter how great or poor their example.

So you’ll know him a little better, Jerrad is a Christian pastor and the founder of Dad Tired, a non-profit ministry focused on equipping men to lead their family well. He hosts the weekly Dad Tired Podcast he also authored Stop Behaving: A Gospel-Centered Devotional for Men. If you don’t have a copy, it’d be a great gift for the fathers in your life and you can get it 2 day shipping on Amazon Prime! Jerrad and his wife Leila live in Portland, Oregon with their two children where they are also certified foster parents.

Joy with Melissa Kruger Jun 04, 2018
    Show notes

On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast I’m chatting with Melissa Kruger about JOY! We dove right in and talked a million miles a minute about Bible study, hardship, and most of all, the joy that we have in Jesus. She said, “The object of our joy is the substance of our happiness. We like to rejoice in all these things, and we can go to God and say, ‘Thank you for my family, thank you for the fact that we have a meal to eat tonight, thank you that we have a house,” but he is the ultimate substance of our joy. The more we focus on him, the more we will be joyful!”

Melissa is definitely a kindred heart and you're going to love hearing from her! She serves as women’s ministry coordinator at Uptown Church (PCA) in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is the author of The Envy of Eve: Finding Contentment in a Covetous World (Christian Focus, 2012) and Walking with God in the Season of Motherhood (Waterbrook/Multnomah, 2015). Her husband, Mike, is the president of Reformed Theological Seminary, and they have three children. She writes at Wits End, hosted by The Gospel Coalition.

Her newest book In All Things is a study on JOY that releases tomorrow, June 5, 2018, which just so happens to also be the ONE YEAR anniversary of the Journeywomen podcast! Ya’ll, I have no words to express my surprise that we’ve actually made it this far. It is literally only by God’s grace. We’re releasing a celebratory Ask Me Anything episode later this week, so be sure to subscribe to the podcast on whatever platform you’re using to listen so that you don’t miss it. Thanks so much for journeying alongside me for the past year. It’s truly been a joy. I cannot wait to share this conversation on that very topic with you all!

Celebrating God's Creativity with Trillia Newbell May 28, 2018
    Show notes

On today’s episode of the Journeywomen podcast, I chatted with Trillia Newbell about celebrating God's creativity! Trillia and I talked about everything from how we can practically celebrate people of all backgrounds, to how Jesus himself loved people who were different than him. She said, “When I think of Jesus I think of a man who died for sinners, who died for those who could never repay him, and who related to those who others would shun. His example is ours. It’s what we should aim to live like and live for.” Trillia encourages us to simply love our neighbors and to seek to know them through something as simple as inviting them to share a meal around our tables. Ultimately, we discussed God’s plan to glorify himself by rescuing a people from every tribe, tongue, and nation. I know you’ll have so many takeaways from this conversation.

So you’ll know her a little better, Trillia Newbell is the author of the kids’ book God’s Very Good Idea, as well as Enjoy: Finding the Freedom to Delight Daily in God’s Good Gifts (2016), Fear and Faith: Finding the Peace Your Heart Craves (2015) and United: Captured by God’s Vision for Diversity (2014). Her writings on issues of faith, family, and diversity have been published in the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Desiring God, True Woman, Christianity Today, The Gospel Coalition, and more. She has spoken at numerous conferences, churches, women’s retreats, colleges and seminaries, including True Woman, The Gospel Coalition Women’s conference, Southeastern Theological Seminary, and more. She currently is the Director of Community Outreach for the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission for the Southern Baptist Convention. I can’t wait to share her with you guys.
