He walks Josh through the intervention that changed everything on September 28th, 2017 and the biggest misconceptions people still have about addiction.

Josh and Chris also get into coming out at 13, the internalised homophobia that still exists within the queer community, and why Chris thinks the UK's new social media age restrictions are the right call.

Chris also joins the group chat to answer your questions, including about that viral Harry Styles "daddy" sign and the worst opening line to a TikTok video.

Fiona Shaw on Her Killing Eve Finale Verdict, Sense and Sensibility & The Hilarious Reason Why She Made The Front Page of The Irish Times Sep 23, 2026

Show notes

Fiona Shaw is an icon of stage and screen, after roles in Killing Eve, Bad Sisters, Harry Potter and now as she stars in Sense and Sensibility she joins Josh for a chat that proves she's still got the same mischief that once landed her on the front page of the Irish Times, much to her father's horror.

She and Josh dig into her scene-stealing turn as Mrs. Jennings in the new Sense and Sensibility, including how she found "the laugh" and why playing a bumbling school teacher in the 90s nearly derailed her film career before she happily returned to the theatre. Fiona also opens up about her friendships with Jodie Comer and Jodie Foster, working alongside the late Dame Maggie Smith, and that unforgettable Fleabag cameo with Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Fiona also joins her first ever group chat to answer your questions, gives her verdict on that divisive Killing Eve finale (did Villanelle really die?!?) and shares the piece of advice from her father that she's very glad she ignored.

Sense and Sensibility is out in cinemas on 25th September.

Joanne Froggatt on her great chat with Mobland co-star Tom Hardy & why we need to stop dissecting women’s faces Sep 16, 2026

Show notes

From Downton Abbey to a leading lady of Mobland season two, Joanne Froggatt sits down with Josh for a proper catch-up five years in the making.

Joanne tells Josh how she feels about the rumours about Tom Hardy’s on-set behaviour that have been following the cast of Mobland around, and the chat she had with him that put her completely at ease when she needed it most.

Josh reminds Joanne of the chat they had five years ago about the double standards women face - and how the conversation has moved on (or hasn’t!) - from the industry's obsession with how women age, to the guilt and logistics that come with being a working mum.

Plus she shares a beautiful memory of working alongside the late Dame Maggie Smith, and opens up about her new HBO series on the trial of Louise Woodward which will get us all chatting!

Joanne also joins the group chat to answer your questions, including the wildest thing she's had to learn for a role, and whether she could take Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren or Tom Hardy in an argument…

Miku Martineau on Netflix’s Crew Girl, Why a Relationship Ending Isn’t a Failure & Body Image Sep 09, 2026

Show notes

Miku Martineau is living out our dream life leading Netflix's new love triangle drama ‘Crew Girl’ and it’s the show we are all going to be chatting about!

In this chat with Josh, Miku opens up about growing up as a Japanese Canadian in a predominantly white neighbourhood, feeling like an outlier at school, and how the things that once made her stand out are now the things she wears as a badge of honour.

Josh and Miku also chat about why we need to stop dissecting women's bodies, after she was told she was too ‘twiggy’ growing up.

Miku also tells the story of the incredible moment at the ‘Star Trek’ wrap party when she got to tell Michelle Yeoh, in person, that she had booked her first ever lead role in Netflix series ‘Bet’. Plus she gets candid about ending a long term relationship and why walking away is a win rather than a failure.

Plus Miku joins the group chat to answer your questions, including the truth about her childhood pet eels, and whether she is Team Cam or Team Josh…

Chaka Khan on How Etta James Saved Her Life, Prince & Almost Becoming A Nun Sep 02, 2026

Show notes

Eleven Grammys. Six decades. And a life that has taken in the Black Panther Party, a brief consideration of the convent, and a farm in rural Georgia with her own well water. Chaka Khan has GREAT CHAT!

Chaka takes us back to the beginnings of her iconic journey, opening up about running away from home at 16, singing in Chicago clubs for twenty dollars a night and her time with the Black Panther Party. She reflects on why awards have never been the point for her, why she believes there is no competition in self-expression, and says plainly that if she had not had singing as an outlet, she would not be here today.

She talks candidly about her friendship with Prince and the conversations she still has with his painting on her wall. She also shares the piece of life-saving advice Etta James pulled her aside to give her the very first time they met, what she learned about Billie Holiday from her grandmother's record collection, and why sleep is the secret to her still looking great in her 70’s.

Plus she joins the group chat to answer your questions, including the ideal height for a man, the most extravagant thing she has ever bought herself, and the extraordinary story of how a psychic in Canada told her to buy her farm before she had even stepped inside the house.

Chaka Khan's new album 'Chakzilla' is out on18th September. You can pre-save on Spotify here: https://open.spotify.com/album/0dQyfJN05ICpQfK9dvKRRF?si=f75205cdd100494a

Show notes

He is the man behind one of the most talked about lines on TV this year. But there is a lot more to Tom Glynn-Carney than playing Aegon Targaryen in ‘House of The Dragon’.

In this chat with Josh, Tom breaks down THAT season three finale moment and shares so many stories from filming the show. He also reflects on being cast in ‘Dunkirk’ with no film experience whatsoever and the note Christopher Nolan gave him that he has carried onto every single job since.

Tom also talks candidly about how growing up in working class northern England where men were expected to sit on their feelings affected him and why he only started properly opening up five years ago. Make sure you stick around for the best piece of advice from his therapist that we all need to take note of!

He also gets honest about the darker side of the fandom and the online bullying that spilled into his last relationship. Plus Tom joins the group chat to answer your questions, and reveals the great chat that has mattered most to him. You are going to want to know about this chat!

Six Months of Great Chat: Jason Isaacs, Jennifer Garner, Theo James, Katie Price and More Aug 12, 2026

Show notes

Six months in and the great chats are still coming. To mark the milestone, Josh is revisiting some of the episodes that have meant the most to him and got the most of you talking.

In this special, we kick things off with Jason Isaacs, who came in saying he doesn't usually go in depth on things and then absolutely went in depth on things. Then there is Charithra Chandran, whose honesty about race, representation and the industry sparked more comments on social media than almost any other episode. Jennifer Garner tells the story of running screaming down Broadway the night she first saw herself on a cinema screen alongside Maggie Smith and Albert Finney, and why thirty years later she still cannot quite believe she is here. Theo James gets refreshingly honest about toxic masculinity and what it means to be a man right now. And Katie Price opens up about body dysmorphia, the one mirror in her house, and why she says this is finally, genuinely, the happiest she has ever been.

Fresh from his run in London's West End in Oh, Mary! Michael is Josh's guest on this week's episode of Josh Smith's Great Chat Show.

Kit Connor & Joe Locke on Heartstopper, Coming Out & Why Your Identity is Yours Alone Jul 29, 2026

Show notes

As Netflix's Heartstopper comes to an end, after three seasons and now a movie, Josh revisits two of the greatest chats he has ever had on the podcast, with Kit Connor and Joe Locke, the lead actors at the heart of it all.

Kit opens up about the phone call that changed everything, what it was like to film alongside Olivia Colman, and why he will never forget the fan who used his coming out scene to come out to their own parents. He also tells Josh why your sexuality belongs to you and nobody else.

Joe and Josh discuss male body image and how eating disorders on screen are almost always shown from a dark and scary lens, and why Heartstopper dared to do it differently. Joe also tells Josh why he thinks Gen Z's willingness to talk openly about their feelings is one of the most important shifts of his lifetime.

Together they are a reminder of everything this show set out to do and everything it delivered.
