The Good Life: My Happy Place, Oxford, England Aug 08, 2022
    Show notes

This is another Good Life episode where I share with you moments in time that make me smile—moments from my good life! And today, I'm taking you with me to my happy place, Oxford, England!

Since I'm blind and can't enjoy visual pictures of my trips, I take "audio pictures," which are simply audio recordings of a special place, moment, or memory that I want to capture. Then I'm able to take that voice memo with me, listen to it over and over, and picture it in my mind's eye.

As I listen to these recordings and recall the moments I want to cherish, I'm also reminded of the goodness of God and His presence in my life. You'll get a glimpse of God's goodness too as you listen in, and I pray they help you see how you can live the good life too.

#205: Can I Be a Humble Woman and Still Be Strong? Aug 04, 2022
    Show notes

Humility is a spiritual superpower that we just don't talk about enough. And often it's because we just don't understand it.

We may think if we're humble, then we may be walked on or overlooked. But humility is not just an attribute or an attitude, it's an action—a powerful and profound force that can change you and change the world around you.

So, today I'm going to reframe humility for you based on the book of Amos. That's right, sister! Flip back in your Bible to the Old Testament and dust off this minor prophet because embedded deep within the book of Amos are such practical truths about how to live the God-life, which is actually the good life. And humility is a big theme.

So, climb into the Barbie camper with me and listen in to what it's like to live the good life, even in not-so-good circumstances.

    Show notes

Culture is always trying to convince you that "life balance" is possible. Everything you see is pushing the narrative that you can put equal work into careers, family, friends, faith, and self-care. But what if life isn't about balancing all the things you do, but about doing what matters most?

Today, you'll get a practical guide for doing what matters most in a get-things-done world. Authors, Michelle Myers and Somer Phoebus will open the door to a countercultural, gospel-centered conversation about the intersection of modern womanhood and work.

#201: Can I Be a Doer and Still Rest in God's Presence? With Katie M. Reid Jul 07, 2022
    Show notes

Are you a Mary or a Martha? It would be difficult to find an American Christian woman who has not struggled to be more like Mary, the Christ-follower who sat at Jesus's feet while her overworked sister, Martha, labored in the kitchen.

So what if you're a Martha? Is that okay? This often quoted Bible story from Luke 10 seems to suggest that wanting to serve, achieve, and accomplish things as Martha did was wrong. But that's not the case. There's nothing wrong with being productive and getting things done.

Author Katie Reid will remove the guilt from all of the doers out there who feel less spiritual than their laid-back, easygoing friends. She'll help you embrace your God-given, go-getter personality as well as discover how—and when—to rest and retreat. You'll learn that you can be a doer while still resting in God's presence!

#200: Can I Make Peace With the Past and Make Sense of the Present? With Bonnie Gray Jun 30, 2022
    Show notes

Growing up as a Chinese American daughter of a mail-order bride and a busboy in San Francisco's Chinatown, Bonnie Gray never felt like she belonged. She spent her childhood hiding "Chinese Bonnie" who lived in a dysfunctional home in poverty, so she could be accepted as cheerful "American Bonnie" who lived a life that looked like everybody else's.

Bonnie joins me on the podcast today, and you'll hear how she made peace with her past and how it has changed everything about her future. As she was trying to throw away pieces of her past—the ones she thought no one wanted—she discovered God was tenderly gathering all the broken fragments to build a new story of faith and joy.

It's only when we learn to embrace the truth of our past that we can finally make sense of our present and celebrate what truly matters.
