    Jackson’s Art Podcast

The ‘Jackson’s Art Podcast’ brings together ‘Ask An Artist’ and more ideas and conversations from across the Jackson’s Team. The Podcast explores what it means to make art through the voices of established artists and the materials they use. Every month, we share stories and expertise from those who create, be they contemporary artists or historical figures. To encourage curiosity and invite dialogue, we take listeners out of the gallery and into the spaces where art is made, shaped, and brought to life.

Our podcast consists of three distinct series: ‘Ask an Artist’, ‘The Matter of Colour’, and ‘Rivalries and Friendships in Art History’.

In ‘Ask an Artist’, Lisa Takahashi hosts insightful conversations with guest artists in their studios and at exhibitions and events, capturing both their practice and the atmosphere around their work.

‘The Matter of Colour’, presented by Evie Hatch, co-creator of Jackson’s Pigment Stories Book and online series, explores the fascinating histories of artists’ colours from antiquity to the present day.

In ‘Rivalries and Friendships in Art History’, Louise Reynolds and Evie Hatch uncover the clashes, romances, and companionships that shaped artists’ lives, revealing the human stories behind art history.

    Show notes

Many professional artists take on residencies as a way to learn new skills, develop ideas, collaborate with other artists or to create a specific outcome. Laura and Peter have both done this and today's episode looks at their personal experiences and at some of the things you need to consider if you fancy applying for a residency somewhere - or creating your own.

Ask an Artist - What about Giclee Prints? Jul 16, 2021
    Show notes

As a printmaker Laura has quite definite views on giclee prints, but only because they create confusion over what 'print' means. Peter is a painter and though he does not routinely make giclees to sell he has produced some as extra copies of portraits for clients. Whether or not you include them in your artistic business they do create some dilemmas and some moral responsibilities for the artist.

Ask an Artist - Using Photography in your work Jul 09, 2021
    Show notes

This episode is not about photography in itself, but about using photography as the source material. Both Peter and Laura use photography and have arrived at the same point in how they do so. For each of them photography is useful reference but not something to copy.
Of course these are opinions rather than rules and need to be interpreted in the context of your own artistic practice, but P&L both make art that refers to rather than relying on their cameras.

    Show notes

Peter has his eye on a gallery being established in his name while Laura wants her legacy to be about a lasting effect on the way people adopt techniques that she has promoted. Joking aside, how is an artist remembered and should they be thinking about it while they have an influence?
