Love is in the air, or is it? In this special Valentine’s Day episode of Jackalope Tales, Charles and Lisa unravel the true meanings behind two iconic songs often mistaken for romantic anthems.
First, they dig into Screaming Jay Hawkin’s haunting classic, I Put a Spell on You. On the surface, it sounds like a passionate love song, but beneath the wailing vocals and eerie blues, it’s really a dark tale of obsession and control.
Then, they shift gears to Dolly Parton’s heartfelt ballad, I Will Always Love You. Though many hear it as a tender love song, it was actually Dolly’s graceful farewell to a professional partnership, a song of independence, not devotion.
Join Lisa and Charles as they explore how these songs took on new lives in the public imagination and discuss why we sometimes hear love where it was never meant to be.
Tune in for an episode filled with music, meaning, and maybe just a little heartbreak.
