    Equipping you to successfully pursue the college of your dreams. I believe that the world needs every student to reach their full potential. College admittance shouldn’t hold you back. I’m an educator and Harvard grad who has been in your shoes. I designed this podcast to accompany the Ivy League Challenge (my online course) to support my listeners. I’ve met with graduates, admissions officers, and professors to identify the criteria used to select candidates. I’ve crafted a road map for success and can share it with you.

    How Too Many APs Makes it Harder to Get In pt. 1 Nov 21, 2022
    Show notes

    Although everywhere you turn, everyone talks about how important academic rigor is, there is more to the story.
    AP, IBDP, or A-level classes are unquestionably valuable. And yet, sometimes there can be too much of a good thing.
    This is certainly one of those times.
    Rather than taking a class load that pushes you to the edge of sanity, remember why you want to demonstrate academic rigor, and don't forget the significance of the rest of your application.
    Don't exclude yourself from consideration from the schools you want to get into. Listen to understand how to choose a better strategy than taking as many advanced classes as possible.

    Exciting announcement for those who feel overwhelmed by school work as we approach the end of the semester.
    I am hosting a free masterclass to help you help your teens balance everything. This masterclass is best for both parents and teens to attend together.
    Juniors and seniors (grades 11 and 12) are in the middle of the busiest times of their lives so far, and should join this masterclass. Also, please join if your teen is in grade 8, 9, or 10 so that you can avoid some of the biggest mistakes that nearly everyone makes when they schedule their junior and senior years.
    To attend the masterclass, join my Facebook Group: Parents of Ambitious Teens; Personal Growth & Healthy College Prep.
    You can sign up to join the group here: TILC.to/FB
    The Masterclass will be November 22nd, 2022 at 8:00 PM EST.

    Duke Prof. Robert Malkin on Research in High School Nov 14, 2022
    Show notes

    As more and more families realize how valuable academic research is as a college admissions strategy, they come to us to learn how to get started.
    But professors are busy, and most high school students don't have the skills or understanding to be able to contribute right away. This means that there are a limited number of professors who are willing to add a high school student to the team.
    But because it is difficult for many to find these research opportunities does not mean that they are not available.
    Duke Professor Dr. Robert Malkin joins me today to introduce scholarly research as a high school student.
    Listen in to learn:
    * what academic research is
    * why you might want to consider doing academic research
    * why it is so impressive to selective admissions teams
    * how to get started
    * how to be successful in a research lab
    * and more

    Better Essays, Less Time Oct 31, 2022
    Show notes

    Few things are more frustrating than working hard for weeks to put together your best essay, only to get a poor grade.
    Essay writing should be preferable to test taking, but because there are too many poor essay writing strategies, many students would rather take a test than write a paper.
    I hope that changes with this podcast.
    Learn how to be more effective and ensure that all of your essays get great grades.
