Track 95: Shaniya Davis Feb 27, 2024

Shaniya Davis should have been occupied with 5 year old things, like starting kindergarten or playing with her friends. But, her upbringing provided unique challenges. Her mother was battling a drug addiction and as such, was not fit to be a parent. As a result, Shaniya was raised primarily by her dad, Bradley, from around age 1 to age 5. But in September 2009, the living arrangements change and Shaniya is impacted by this decision in a horrific way.

By 22, she had built an assisted living business. By 29, that business had made her a millionaire. Everything in her life was absolutely fabulous: she was now a mom to a beautiful daughter, had a loving husband and tons of support from her family and friends. By all accounts, she was healthy and seemingly happy. But as we know, not all that glitters is gold and while 29 marked the year she became a millionaire, it also marked the year she was murdered.

Originally from Kenya, Jane Kuria, a widow, and her three children, Isabella, Annabel, and Jeremy, came to the United States in the early 2000’s looking for a better life. Jane worked extremely hard to provide her children with a stable and comfortable upbringing in Atlanta, GA. But that would all change one summer night in 2007. It was supposed to be a fun filled day for her son Jeremy and his cousin Peter, who planned to spend the night. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. Instead her family and community, both in Atlanta and Kenya, are left wondering what really transpired on that fateful night of July 29, 2007. Would their efforts be enough to solve this case?
