Lauren of The Zen Blonde and I sit down to gossip about pop culture; but first we spent some time discussing our pursuit of the meaning of life. We talk about our shared history of going off the deep end in our youth and immersing ourselves in spiritual practice for years, emerging with some pretty unique perspectives on our experiences from temporarily becoming a monk to spending weeks on end in silent meditation. I told you we contain multitudes in this house.
Pop culture gossip starts at 38:15
– where we talk about the Royals and their many coverups. We wrap up our thoughts on the season of Euphoria and ask, what is the difference between a tv show like this, porn and art? Is it the intention behind the project that defines it? What are the intentions of show runners Sam Levinson and executive producer Drake? Then, the Kanye of it all. Who decides who is crazy? What makes a label stick to a celeb while others continually get redemption arcs? We talk about celebs who can't shake off their label of being controversial like Azealia Banks and celebs who should have had that label stick to them longer like Armie Hammer who has bounced back a little too quickly from his cannibalism scandal.

By popular demand, here is our deep dive into one of the most divisive and talked about couples in Hollywood, Dax Shepperd and Kristen Bell. We explore their fights, scandals, why some people love them and why so many people love to hate them.
We ask; is there a difference between twin flames and a couple that just argues constantly? What purpose does “radical honesty” serve? Do they hate each other? More specifically, does Dax resent Kristen? And finally, is Dax's approach to relationships and communication radically honest or just a rebranded pseudo-psychology version of toxic masculinity?

On today's episode I'm joined by Torry from Ready to Be Petty podcast where we break down why seemingly frivolous pop culture topics affect us all. We analyze the controversy surrounding Call Her Daddy and her controversial guests like Jamie Lynn Spears and Colton Underwood. We discuss Euphoria; its PR couples and the meaning behind all the tiddies. Is it gratuitous and exploitative or a meaningful statement on the way we as a society fetishize youth? And of course we talk Kardashians; why they don't have as much money as they say they do and try to figure out wtf happened to all their pets. If you must skip through this section (but like, why though?) it's from minute 8:29-32:14. We take a meandering journey through the different shapes the Kardashians have taken through the ages, both literally and figuratively. We look at the meanings behind the tropes upon which the family has built their career and the ways they are backtracking on that as they remove their BBLs and date tattooed white boys. We explore: • the context of how beauty standards have changed throughout the ages and what that has become today in the age of social media • the ways plastic surgery and beauty trends have gone and which cultures they borrow from • the morals that have been imposed on the debate over whether plastic surgery is valid or not. • pretty privilege • the defense of plastic surgery and exploring its downsides & ways people can become addicted to it References: The Age of Instagram Face: How social media, FaceTune, and plastic surgery created a single cyborgian look by Jia Tolentino
